5.0 out of 5 stars.  Super quiet and heavy duty., August 28, 2013
By hubbycap
I've gone through several low cost office shredders and one thing stands out above all with my past experience: they all sounded like 2 or 3 can openers running simultaneously during operation. Very loud, grating, and disruptive in an office environment. With the Powershred 79Ci I did step up a notch on price from the lower end of the bin-type shredders but it is worth it. I got a great deal on Amazon and had based my purchase on specs. Only after ordering did I really read the reviews for what I had already committed myself for. It turned out I wasn't the only owner that was completely satisfied with the price/performance of this unit. I don't need to shred phone books but I do have a tendency to save up and then periodically batch a load. Of course I will try to jam as much at once as I can but the restrictive throat will not allow so many sheets as it would jam or even slow the machine down more than moderately. The 79Ci has a properly-sized motor and I have yet to overheat it, unlike my past underpowered units that utilized a highly geared-down weak motor to save a few cents. I've found it easy to carry on conversation during shredding with the Fellows and after a couple of months of use am quite happy with my selection.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This Powershred is awesome!, August 22, 2013
By Tom Snyder (Allentown, Pennsylvania, US)
I must say that after reading a lot of reviews and having to decide on a lot of different shredders out there, I 'm very pleased with my choice of the Fellowes 79Ci. This Powershred will go through 14 sheets of paper like nothing, with or without staples. The credit card and CD slot work perfect, keeping both centered and aligned perfectly, while being fed through without a flaw. I like the safety feature, not allowing your fingers to get close to the cutter, great if you have kids around. Some people mentioned that there is some mess when emptying the waste, not true if you do it correctly. When you finish shredding, roll the cutters forward for a few seconds and this will empty out any loose paper that is caught on the cutters. Some people also mention the waste container not sliding in easily, not true if you do this correctly. Simply push it in as far as it goes with one hand against the center panel of the waste container and slightly pull upward on the slide in handle with the other hand, piece of cake, works every time. This came with replacement waste bags, however, I don't use them. I let everything go right into the waste container and empty the waste in the bags when I'm done. You can simply vacuum the waste container out if you need to. Some people mentioned that the 4 rollers on the bottom might be a little difficult to install, it's simple. Just grab a hammer and lightly tap them in, they go in perfectly, just don't overdue it with the hammer. Well then, I don't see any problems with this shredder and everything works perfectly, like it is supposed to. I believe anyone who purchases this model, will be very pleased, it's well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice machine, August 16, 2013
By Hock (Boston, MA USA)
I debated for some time about spending what amounts to an extra $100 for this unit vs. what seemed to be some perfectly good "home office" type machines. This machine was for my office and I wanted it to be the first and last one I had to buy, so I sprung for it. I am glad I did. All features work as advertised and it is very quiet - much quieter than the Staples-branded home office desktop shredder that I have at home (which I really like). The larger capacity bin is also a nice upgrade from what I'm used to. Haven't had a jam yet and am generally very pleased with the purchase and the product quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Prevent Identity Theft, July 04, 2013
By wildallways (Las Vegas, NV)
This thing shreds everything I stuff down it. Credit cards, CDs, those pesky credit card offers. I don't even open the envelope. Stuff the whole envelope in there and it takes it no problem

5.0 out of 5 stars.  100% YES!, June 29, 2013
By BFG Press (Hawaiian Islands)
We have had this shredder for a little over a year... and it's still powering through multiple sheets of paper.

Believe me: I have tried multiple shredders, and have read the reviews on countless others. I took the plunge on this one, hoping to finally have one that does what it says. This is it!

I waited a year to review it because I really dislike the reviews that say, "I just received my xxxx, and I love it."

How's this: I received my Powershred about 15 months ago, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

PROS:
- Really does power shred through 7.10 sheets of paper
- Great credit-card shredding
- Neat little light-up indicator to visually determine the shred stress you are placing in the unit
- Easy-to-dump design
- Looks great (admittedly, this is not as important... but it IS a "pro" characteristic)
- Durable... still here after 14 months of consistent use
- Blue power light could serve as a night light. I use it to remind me to turn it off!

CONS:
- None. (seriously)

I am not gushing on this review (see some of my other reviews, and you will see).

Bottom line: 100% YES! Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Simply the BEST shedder I ever had., April 18, 2013
By Coozy
I gave this shedder a five star rating because it is by far the best heavy duty shedder I've ever owned. It's very easy to assemble, I think it took me, at the most,15 minutes to have it up and fully running. Be warned though that it is a little top heavy, heavier than I expected. But that a small price to pay for a quality heavy duty shedder that quietly sheds as advertised. Credit cards are shredded as smooth and effortlessly as paper.
I like to disagree with an earlier reviewer who said that after emptying the holding bin the drawer was hard to close and you needed two hands to close it without tipping it over. I've found that if you push the lower portion of the drawer it closes easily using only one hand and very little force. A great shedder for the home that I recommend to all my friends.
