Almost half the people in the United states are missing one or more teeth. Sports injuries alone knock out another two million teeth every year. A reliable technology exists that can help many of these individuals recover from the disaster of tooth loss. No longer an experimental procedure, dental implants are now a dependable and effective way for people to return to their original state of wholeness - eating, speaking, and smiling without feeling self-conscious. Dr. Babbush describes the entire process in easy-to-understand language, complete with success stories and numerous photographs, X-rays and illustrations.

A Daunting Job Done With Ease And Professionalism, May 04, 2006

Explaining what dental implants are all about and understanding what the procedure is like can be daunting for a potential patient.
Losing any teeth is traumatic for anyone. Not being able to chew or eat proper foods or the foods we love can be embarrassing or painful and certainly reduces the quality of life. Not getting the proper nutrients from chewing and digesting a variety of foods can be even more serious, resulting in physical imbalances and possible illness.
Dental implants provide a solution of replacing missing teeth with a fixed appliance or can be used to stabilize a denture to increase chewing force and function dramatically. All implants today can be restored esthetically. Form and function come together for a permanent solution to dental problems.
There are over 280 million people in the U.S. of whom 35-40 million are missing all their teeth. Another 150 million people are missing one or some teeth. Additionally 40 million dental extractions are done annually and 2 million teeth are lost to accident each year.
Dental implants are not experimental but, in fact, are dependable solutions. This text is intended for the public and describes a brief history of dental implants but, more importantly, it is a description of the experiences of many every day people with various dental concerns that were resolved with dental implants.
If you are anxious about a procedure your dentist recommends, this book is a must. It clearly discusses many cases, one of which could be similar to your problem. The more informed you are the better the results will be.

An informative book for people considering dental implants, June 27, 2004
By A customer
|
|
I am sure most people who are looking for current, detailed information about dental implants will soon find, as I did, that there aren't many books on the subject written in laymen's terms. In fact, most books for sale about dental implants are dental textbooks! But thanks to Dr. Babbush, there is now an easy to understand book available and best of all, it's very well done. The book includes lots of illustrations, pictures and real-life examples of people who have had dental implant surgery. If you or someone you know is considering dental implants or has some type of tooth issue that could be remedied by implants, you should definitely buy this book.

Felt like and infomercial, March 19, 2004

I ordered this book, hoping it would help me make a decision about implants vs other choices. I have a background in healthcare and wanted to know a lot of details. I was disappointed in the book. It looks like a glossy promo and it reads like a long infomercial. It didn't contain the detail about options, relative advantages and disadvantages I was looking for. I can't recommend this book.

An upbeat, "patient-friendly" guide, December 07, 2003
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)

|
Leading dental implant surgeon Charles A. Babbush draws upon his professional experience and considerable expertise in As Good As New: A Consumer's Guide To Dental Implants, to present the reading public with an upbeat, "patient-friendly" guide to the pros and cons of dental implant surgery as used to restore teeth lost from accidents, sports injuries, or other causes. Full-color photographs illustrate a quite practical discussion of determining whether dental implants are right for one, understanding what to do if something goes wrong with an implant, daily adjustments to living with implants, and more. As Good As New is very highly recommended reading for anyone contemplating or seeking to learn more about dental implant surgery for themselves or members of their family.
