Product Description:

This book/DVD combination features cases from the New York City medical examiner’s office, one of the busiest in the U.S. Because of the number of autopsies performed at this office, the range of examples is exhaustive. The topics covered include typical gunshot wounds, blunt and sharp force trauma, natural diseases with forensic ramifications, accidental deaths occurring in a therapeutic setting, and non-fatal pathologies. The text provides over 1200 color photographs that address both civil and criminally oriented cases. The DVD allows for even easier access to critical information needed by medical examiners.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent pictures and explanations, June 15, 2013

Four stars not five because of only Limited discussion in the chapters. The pictures are excellent and relay concepts discussed in each chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Comprehensive and interesting work, May 01, 2010
By N. Nothnagle
I own both the DVD and the book and can't find anything deceptive or defective about either one of them. What is deceptive is rating these products with 3 stars based on complaints that are strictly related to the publisher and have nothing to do with the content of the product. This work of forensic pathology is relevant to medical professionals, attorneys, law enforcement and health science students. The chapters are well illustrated by the pictures and contain both the commonly seen and unusual. The chapters are well written and laid out. This book can teach much to many and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  -, March 18, 2010
By D. Semeraro
This atlas is a great resource not only for Forensic Pathologists, but also forensic investigators and students. The chapters begin with article length text introducing the subject in a clear and concise manner. The pictures are detailed and offer variations from the classic "text book" examples of various postmortem conditions encountered at autopsy to provide the reader with a greater knowledge to face atypical manifestations.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Defective and deceptive, January 07, 2010
By M. Bell
This book is essentially an atlas with lots of color photographs depicting various conditions and injuries seen in forensic pathology practice. The photographs are in general clear and of good quality. I received the book and "DVD" after a delay of one month. When I received the book, I noticed the binding was defective and the pages were starting to separate from the spine of the book. This can be easily corrected by a new copy. My main complaint is with the "DVD." This is not a DVD of the photographs in the book that you can search and export into Powerpoint or other presentation software. No! It is nothing more than a PDF copy of the book on a CD-ROM. How can you justify selling the two together when they are both the same product? I don't want two copies of the same book even if the formats are different. Perhaps I was foolish or my expectations misplaced, but I believe the marketing and description of the "DVD" was intentionally vague for the single purpose of extracting an additional $150 from me. So let the next buyer beware! I am a forensic pathologist who has purchased other books from CRC Press and I am puzzled by this product. Why would you want to alienate me with an inferior product when you know the market for this product is already small to begin with?
