Super-stylish and uber-harsh, Kacey Simon is the social dictator of Marquette Middle School. She's BFFs with the prettiest girls, and she even hosts her own TV segment dispensing advice and the cold, hard truth to her classmates -- whether they want to hear it or not. But then an eye-infection and a visit to the dentist leave her with coke-bottle glasses, a mouth full of metal, and... a littthp. Dismissed by her popular friends, she falls so far down the social ladder she can barely see the top, even with her magnifying specs. With nowhere else to turn, Kacey has to hang with her nerdy neighbor and a boy who walks to beat of his own drum -- or rather, to the beat of the drummer in his band. Zander wants Kacey to be their lead singer, but she's determined to reclaim her throne. Will she climb back to the top? Or will she discover that hitting rock bottom kind of... rocks?

she’s just brutally honest like a good journalist should be, April 17, 2017

Eighth grader Kacey Simon doesn’t think she’s a mean girl, she’s just brutally honest like a good journalist should be. Life is pretty good for Kacey until the tables are turned when a series of accidents leave her stuck with glasses and braces. Within a day, she goes from A-list to D-list as her cool girl friends pretend she doesn’t exist, she’s dropped from her school news segment and the lead in the school play. Her best friend seizes the opportunity to wrest the cool reins and goes on the attack, and a cruel YouTube video makes the rounds in school.
Alone for the first time, Kacey ends up teaming up with a former friend, Paige and emo musician Zander (aka Skinny Jeans) to get her popularity back. Along the way, Kacey learns that she may have been a mean girl after all – or just misunderstood.
The book is shallow, with an unlikeable heroine written to be likeable. Haston’s message of being real gets garbled; it’s as if the author herself is unsure of whether Kacey’s behavior pre-braces is reprehensible or defensible. I did not come away with the true feeling that she learned her lesson at the end of the day; rather, she just learned to find loopholes and how to use people to get her way. It sends out mixed messages.

How to Rock Braces and Glasses by Meg Haston is one of the few books that will make you want to read it over and over again. The main character Kasey Simon the typical mean popular girl;she seems perfect. She is the go-to girl whenever someone needs advice. Kasey basically rules the entire middle school. But Kasey gets an eye infection that doesn't allow her to wear her contacts now she has a pair of glasses on her face. She is slowly going down the popularity ranks. A few days later she gets braces; she also gets a lisp. This drops Kasey down to the bottom. She now hangs out with her old unpopular friends. She starts to join a band that she really likes. But when her eye infection is no longer there and Kasey now returns to wearing contacts; she will have to choose from having the best friends ever to the mean popular crew again.

Honestly I think this book was pretty good book. My mind was oozing with interest! I don't have braces, just reading glasses for text books at school when were "SUPPOSED" to read to ur selves. They are purple with light blue zebra print. But if u have braces and glasses and loose all ur friends, let the someone else come to you. see I think of it like this… when you're fishing, when you get the fish to find the bate(you) you real him or her in. And shabooya! I hope this advice worked for any of you, thanks for reading all of this! Blessings to you, Lauren Stafford
