5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent for intermediate to advanced herbalists, March 28, 2016
By A Customer
An excellent resource on why herbal medicine works from a medical science perspective. The depth of this information can be overwhelming. Also contains practical information on specific herbs for specific conditions which I have found very useful. An amazing book for anyone serious about herbal medicine. Probably not the best book for beginning herbalists (try Rosemary Gladstar instead).

This book is headed for a very remote camp in the Alaskan outback where only essential items are worthy of being backpacked in. This book is just that good and covers the nuts and bolts like few others do. A great foundation book for the study of this subject.

Descriptions of the actions, constituents, etc of each herb is very summarised. I would have liked more detail and especially more on the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of each herb. Too basic to be of help to a student.
