3 out of 5 stars.  Good, Not Great, August 28, 2008
As a student, instructor and supporter of dental assisting, I use the Delmar's Dental Assisting textbook as an adjunct to the other texts in our course. It has its strong points and its weak ones.

Among the positive aspects, the book is very well presented. Along with the excellent illustrations there are numerous examples of clinical practices which are clear and concise. The book is also well-organized, having benefited from improvements over previous editions.

Its pitfalls include small but critical factual errors, the most glaring of which is the optional use of a bonding agent prior to composite placement. It is vital to dentists, assistants and hygienists to have a clear and solid understanding of dental bonding systems to ensure their longevity and comfort.

I hope that future editions will address such errors. An excellent read, attractive and accessible, but read it with care and do your own research.

4 out of 5 stars.  Very Well Presented, September 15, 2005
I am currently using this book (the 2nd edition) as a student at Western Career College. The layout is very well presented. There are colorful pictures, tables, etc. for those that learn best visually. But if this isn't how you learn, the writing in it is as good as the pictures. It even comes with a CD that is very healthful as well.
