Super Fun--Get Two For a Better Workout, May 2, 2006
By S. Burton (Orem, UT USA)
|
|
(This is the same review I wrote for the Bally Twist Board, but this product is identical except for the color.)
We had one of these when I was a kid too (1960s). All of us kids fought over it (that's probably why my parents made it disappear). Now I can have one of my own. In fact, I have two. You get a better workout with two--one for each foot.
I fell on the ice this winter (rats!) and these little twister boards have been excellent to help work out the pain that still lingers in my right hip. I stand on them while I read and twist gently. I use light weights and dance around on, and off of, them to music. I keep them handy, near the kitchen, so I can use them whenever. I love them.
If you're concerned about them slipping on the floor just use some that Rubbermaid squishy shelf liner stuff underneath them. Hold onto a countertop if you're concerned about balance and turn your legs all the way in and out, together and separatley. You can mess around with weight transfer too--stand on one leg and twist the other or put weight right on the leg and twist. Both ways are fun and good movement increasers. You'll enjoy working your hips, obliques, and lungs (if you really get going) this way. I even put them on my kitchen stool tops and sit on them sometimes.
They're so inexpensive and so fun they're really worthwhile.

fun but very small, May 15, 2006
By bbingy (Idaho, United States)

This is a fun twist board, however it is only 10 inches, not alot of room to stand and twist if you are very big. I can do it, but would be more comfortable if they would add a couple of inches.

It Twists!, October 13, 2005
By unmedicated (dampandcold, northwest)

It works great if you remember to use it. That's the main problem. I am 52 and remember having something like this when I was a kid. I used it then, for my waist size, but I use it now for to just twist to make my back feel good.

Prefers one side, November 13, 2006
By critical consumer (Los Angeles, CA)
|
|
This product was great the first month I owned it, but with continued use I saw that without even my trying to go in one direction, it would move on it's own. Much like how gravity has a tendency to pull your limbs and body in one direction...it felt like I all of a sudden was a lot heavier on my left side. Well, I can't say I really got much of an effective workout after I discovered I was working harder to not spin in a one directional circle, pretty much counter-productive. I guess I got what I paid for. Although since I had ordered two, I've modified my workout to incorporate the both which actually does work. I don't spin. Not a complete waste of money.

excellent, small, portable aerobic exercise device, October 24, 2007
By Littleviews (New York)
|
|
I must do aerobic exercises daily, but since I live in a studio apartment, there is no room for aerobic equipment. Fast walking is great when the weather is good, but bad weather and traveling hobble my exercise efforts.
This little device is excellent and I've recommended it to friends. I recently brought it on a 3 day trip and was able to exercise several times daily without interrupting the flow of events. I wish I could bring it to the office with me! It's really easy to use anywhere.
I get my heart rate up to 125, which isn't super high, but does the trick. Note that I ordered a different make with a wider diameter from another company as I think more foot room would increase comfort and speed. That said, I'm very satisfied with this product and use it daily, which has been especially helpful as I'm recovering from a hip injury.

wouldn't buy it again, January 13, 2007
By M. Palmer (NJ)

The twist board is extremely tiny, though i guess for the price its not logical to expect something very large. It does work although i just got it a week ago and can now hear random part rolling around inside of it. It seems to be relatively poor quality, but its not like i expected anything else for the cost. You definitely get what you pay for.

Small board, February 26, 2007
By Daka (Atlanta, GA)
|
|
You can get a good twisting motion with this board for your waist. It is a fun and easy to travel with workout. However, the board itself is a bit small for a larger person. Unless you have cat-like balance and yoga poses, it is hard to put both feet on this board.
I suppose it makes for a better exercise. Flexing and working all your muscles to support yourself. Someone needs to make a board with a larger base.

If It Gets You Moving, It Works!, January 19, 2010
By Bold Consumer (USA)
|
|
Not the most useful piece of exercise equipment I own, but probably the least expensive. Worth it? Probably, if you use it. It's a little boring and I'm easily entertained. It doesn't take much to amuse me. I haven't given up though.
This product appears to be well made and easy to use. The design is good and it works well. Moving around is better than not moving, as long as you are careful not to fall if you are a klutz (or lack balance) like me. For someone who is active anyway, it's possible to get the thing going and get the kinks out with it. I'll probably be doing slow, yoga-like moves on it, not the Chubby Checker-style twist. :)
More importantly, for a person who never exercises and otherwise would be on the couch, I can see this serving an important purpose, IF done on a regular schedule and not just shoved in a drawer. In other words, it's possible to 'make it work' if motivated. A heavier person probably needs the larger version made by another manufacturer. In fact, the reason I got interested is because I saw about 5 seconds of a participant using the larger version on a show called, "Dance Your _ Off!" If it gets you off the couch, you'll want to do other kinds of exercises, so it could be the answer for some, another piece of junk in the junk drawer for others.
For me, I bought it so when I really DO want to just curl up on the couch and watch a favorite television show, like "The Biggest Loser" (I'm 20 lbs. overweight right now), instead of feeling lazy and guilty about being lazy, I can watch THEM work out and feel like I'm working up a sweat or increasing my range of motion too. I would call it 'movement' instead of actual exercise, but movement is good. Many of us need to 'move' more.
I bought 2 of these small 'size 6' twist boards and a larger one, because I obsess about exercise equipment and wanted to compare them.
My balance is poor anyway, so I really have to be careful, especially on the large one, but actually on the small ones too.
The small ones are so easy to just pick up (with one hand) and toss in a drawer, or closet, or under a chair or bed. That is a major advantage. I get more of a variety and range of motion on either the large one or using 2 of the small ones. I can do a sort of 'lunge-twist' using 2 small ones. On the large one I seem to be able to get more of a 'twist', and it is solid and heavy, almost like a real piece of exercise equipment. It's still light enough to carry around and shove into a closet or under a bed. You'll get a little exercise benefit from picking that thing up. It definitely is not as light-weight as the Everlast. The larger one costs more, so if cost is a huge issue, start out with the small one and see if you would use it or if you would just toss it in a drawer before you order the larger one. If you like the smaller ones, I think you'll really like the larger model.

Great for a skating spin trainer, January 16, 2007
By Cindy G. (Wellington, FL)
|
|
I got a tip to try this instead of the more expensive spin trainers that are used to improve spins in figure skating. While I've never tried the more expensive ones made specifically to practice spinning, this one seems to do the trick. It helps me get the feel of spinning around quickly, which should help me feel less dizzy when I try to spin on the ice. For the price, it's worth a shot.

I work out on a regular basis...I love cardio. I use this product 3 days a week. If used properly, it helps in the core area. This is not a miracle machine...you HAVE to use your muscles...you have to contract the muscles your self. If you can do that, this product is for you

Can't go wrong for $9!, December 26, 2009
By M. Grosner (San Diego, CA USA)
|
|
I bought this after reading the other reviews about how handy it was to have and it really is. I keep it in my kitchen so I can keep an eye on my kids and I hop on it for 5 minutes at a time. It's a nice way to sneak in a "workout". And okay, while it's not really giving my heart a workout with any cardio-type activity, it is a great way to slowly trim the waist, hips and thighs. You can feel the burn in your thighs if you bend your knees while twisting!
Also, I had family over during the holidays and everyone was spending repeated time on it. I just purchased another one for my mom and she is thrilled!

Twist to Reach Your Weight Loss Goal, February 11, 2009
By Jill F.. (Wisconsin)
|
|
At the end of the day, when I look down at my pedometer and notice that I am no where near my goal of 10,000 steps for the day, I step onto my new twist board. I twist while I am brushing my teeth. I will then continue to twist for an additional 5-10 minutes. I like to squeeze my stomach muscles tight while I twist to tone my abdomen at the same time as my waist. I love how quickly the twist board gets my heart rate up. It is also a lot of fun.

Inexpensive and doesn't take any space, July 30, 2010
By sworo
|
|
I enjoy using this, I listen to music while I'm on it and time just flies by. Seems like most of the negative comments is that it's too small. I use it without shoes. My feet aren't small, I wear 7-1/2 to 8 size shoes and have no problems with staying on. I do a lot of other type of exercises too and my legs are quite strong already. I think it's more about the muscle strength in your legs and coordination than feet size. If you're not very coordinated then I can see why some people may be having problems but once you use it for awhile and get the muscle strength in your legs up you should be able to stay on. It only takes 5 minutes to feel your legs working and can get your heart rate up a bit too.

Surprisingly sturdy, January 9, 2010
By Barbara B. (Oregon, USA)
|
|
I reiterate what so many other people have said -- at only 10" in diameter, it's difficult with anyone with larger feet to position themselves on the board. Even when you do, keeping your feet so close together makes balance a problem. I use it next to a high backed chair so I can grab on if needed. I tried another reviewer's suggestion to use two at a time and that helps, although it takes good coordination and balance.
I was concerned about breaking it when I heard a "cracking" sound as I stood on it (I'm about 215 lbs!). But it seems to be okay so apparently it's sturdier than it looks. I could find no mention of a safe weight limit.
By the way, ignore the "One-year warranty" feature -- the company charges $7.50 service fee to return the board if it breaks. Considering it sells for just a little more than that, the warranty is a joke.
Of course, I have to wonder if I really needed this -- why not just play a Chubby Checker record in the background and "do the twist." The motion doesn't really require any additional device. Sometimes I think I buy exercise equipment in the hopes that just owning it will be enough. Oh well, at least it doesn't take up as much space as my exercise bike!

Nostalgic fun, June 1, 2008
By M. Dixon (Santee, CA USA)

My wife inquired whether or not they even built these anymore so much to our delight we went to Amazon and sure enough there's even more than one model. It seeemed small to us when we first got them, one each, but they perform perfectly and have been proven by my weight to be quite sturdy. We use ours while watching TV instead of just sitting there and getting bigger. The workout you get is low impact and gets you moving a little bit. We both had these when we were kids in th 50s and 60s and its still just as fun to use now. Highly recommended. The price is right too.

This thing is fun! But this silly, little disk also helps me work the kinks out of my hip and lower back like no other exercise I've found. And you can't beat the price. I keep mine at the office and take a few minutes to "do the Twist" after I've been sitting for hours. Two thumbs up!

Seems decent so far., June 24, 2010
By Chrysopoeia (Rocky Mount, NC)
|
|
For the price, this is definately a good choice for a first try at twist boards. Some of the reviews made me think it would be hard to balance on, or too small, but I'm not having these issues at all. It's easy to get the hang of, and it does seem to work your abs, hips and back pretty well. It claims to work your thighs, but I honestly don't feel it doing anything for my thighs.
Don't let any bad reviews put you off. Unless you have extremely bad balance, you should be able to balance on this board with little effort. Yes it's a bit small, but that is fine unless your feet are larger than say... a woman's size 9.
I do wonder just how much weight this thing can hold. I'm only around 120 pounds myself, but I can feel it give slightly under my feet. I don't think I'd recommend putting too much weight on it.
Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, it works out well for me.

LOVE IT!!!!, February 20, 2011
By Volunteers Day (NJ, USA)
|
|
When I was a kid, my grandmother had given me one of these that she had. My grandmother was born in 1908 so I have no idea of how old this thing was, but it was square and wood, but did the same thing. I swore this was the reason I always had a flat stomach. Over the years, someone borrowed mine to see if they liked it and I never got it back......so when I saw this, I got one for me and my sister. We love it! It's plastic vs. the wood one I had, but the wood one was very heavy and because it was square I would constantly bang my ankles on the points. This one is extremely light weight. My sister is a pharmacy tech and she leaves it at work and twists in between customers (since she is standing all day this break of twisting gets the blood flowing ; )

Holds more wieght than you would think, February 16, 2011
By Hulamom76 (Ogden, Utah)

When I was looking to get a twist board I was concerned because none of them said what the weight limit is, and honestly, if I were 'light' I wouldn't be buying one. That being said I went ahead and bought one and I am happy to say that it will hold a heavier person. I wouldn't put more than 260 pounds on it, but I think it is able to support up to that weight (I don't weigh that much, but it feels like it will hold more than my weight). Over all this is a descent little machine, I just wish it were a bit wider.

I must say one of the cons if you wear a size 10 or 11 shoe it can be a bit bigger for a larger foot. Fun way to get moving for such a cheap price, worth the money 11 bucks.

We love this twist board in our family. Everyone does it, but me especially. It's fun, easy to do in front of the television and you can really feel it afterwards, it's doing something!
And in terms of value for money, it's amazing! Unbelievably good value.
We'll probably get another one and then have twist offs. Suitable for everyone with some sense of balance - 5 years and up? Our 10 yo loves it.
It's really lots of fun, excellent value and genuinely aerobic - what more could you want!? Very happy and confident to recommend it.

a little small, thin plastic, but fun, September 30, 2010
By Liz K (Grand Forks, ND)
|
|
I love my twist board. I use it multiple times a week and enjoy having home exercise equipment that small enough to stow away, quiet during use, and easy to use while watching TV or reading on my Kindle. It took a bit of time to figure out where to place my feet, and the plastic does seem a little thin for the intended use of the board. I frequently hear it shifting and cracking under my feet when I step on, and I'm always worried it will break. Given the price, though, I'm not too worried about having to buy a replacement if needed.

This twist board is a great workout for me. I use it for about 10 everyday and it's toned my abs and I feel it working my back and legs too. No complaints.

Makes work a workout!, December 30, 2011
By Bodysattva.TV

I bought this when I converted to a standing desk at work.
In less than a month I have really seen and felt the results. This works your back and side muscles. Its flattened my stomach. After years of sitting at work this is helping me recover better form. Can't wait to see the final results a few months more down the road.

Basic, Cheaply Made, January 12, 2012
By BookMaven (Washington DC)

The twist board works, but isn't really what I'd call heavy duty. It's very light and the Everlast sticker on mine was peeling off and bubbly.
I'm also about 130 lbs with size 5 feet and you could heard bits of the plastic edges of the two "plates" that make up the back and front sides rubbing against each other about 70% of the time. They don't do it if I'm perfectly centered, but that's sort of difficult since the board is pretty small.
It's fun, but I keep feeling like I'm gonna twist and crack it one of these days.

Duralast? More like lasted a DAY, July 8, 2011
By Alexander E. Malone
|
|
I bought this board to help me lose weight and tone up. There is no max weight limit for using this product and I was happy to do just that... unfortunately it broke while in use the second day I had it. I was using it properly, I wasn't doing anything crazy or beyond what it's *meant* to be used for, and yet it's nothing more than an oversize paper weight now. To say that I'm disappointed would be an understatement, and I have no interest in paying more in shipping and handling to get a replacement than what I paid for the thing originally by making use of the "warranty".
My advice? Skip this, and find something more durable.

Twister Board, July 7, 2011
By Cathy

I wish someone could come up with a twist board the was bigger. This i think is a small 10" board. I believe alot of people would order it more if it were a 16-16.5" Board. The bumps on the top shouldn't be there. Should be smooth non stick on surface, and really the average person should have a wider board. I really want to return it. I think for kids this size may be fine, but for a teenager or adult its way too small. Please let me know if anyone out there knows where i can find a 16-16.5" Board. I'd order it even if there were ridges. I would love to find this item. If its smooth i would be extremely happy.

This item shipped fast and arrived in excellent condition. It doesn't seem like it's that study. I'm 150 lbs and I have a hard time keeping it from sliding to the sides. The first one was by Bally Fitness and was better.

Flimsy and small, June 28, 2011
By S. Ho (california)
|
|
I'm a thin person and wear a woman's size 7 shoe, but didn't feel very secure on this product. You naturally want to move your feet a little when working out so they don't fall asleep and your knees don't lock, but this board doesn't leave any room to move or put some space between your feet. If you're 4'10" and wear a size 4 shoe this might be perfect for you.

Not real happy with the bumps on top.
Hurts bare feet. A good simple exercise tool.
Still like using it with shoes on.

I bought this item, but had to return it because it broke the first time I did more than take a 30 second spin on it. Instead I bought this one: GSI Quality Electronic Figure Trimmer Balance Musical Twist Board - LCD Screen Displays Count Of Twists, Time, Fat And Calories Burned - For Diet, Weight Loss And Keeping Fit The GSI was much better and I recommend it. See my review of that product.

This is a good product and, like any exercise, you have to keep doing it. It is easy to use and small enough to store in any drawer.

Balance Problems, April 22, 2011
By Sno-wolf
|
|
I don't really care for this product. I feel it should have a much larger platform to stand on for the exercise it is designed to do. It is smaller than I imagined and hard to stay on it as you try twisting. I wish I had known how small it was before I bought it. I am not large, wear only a size 7 shoe in fact and although I do this barefoot, I do not feel it is comfortable enough to stand on or very safe either. It is easier if you stand by a wall or use something to hold onto as you twist as it is easy to fall off of it. Holding onto something helps you stay on it. Balance can be a big issue for this product. It is not a recommendation of mine.

My shoes size is size 9, and this twist board is just enough, sometimes I feel too small, not comfortable to stand on it. My husband want to use it but it's way too small for him to step on it!

This twister board is wonderful. It is great exercise and easy to use. It doesn't take up hardly any space so is easy to store. You can throw it in a drawer. Can use it to music and "twist the pounds away." Helps with balance as well. Would definitely recommend it to others. Some reviews state the disk is too small but I am a large woman and found the disk to be adequate when use as intended.

Keeps my legs from falling asleep @ the computer, January 29, 2011
By Harmony
|
|
This is a rather small twist board. I have size 7 women's shoes and the toes and heels are a tad off on the front and back. But for my purposes that doesn't matter. I'm not standing on it. I am sitting and it is under my desk as I type even now. This way I get exercise even at the computer and then when I need to get up I don't fall over because of foot/leg/butt falling asleep from being at the computer too long.
Added bonus: I have noticed that even though I am sitting, using this tones not only my thighs/calfs/ankles, but also my obliques. Yay. That will be nice when summer finally rolls around.

Awesome!, August 23, 2011
By Non-movie elitest. (Ann Arbor, MI USA)

Sometimes I don't feel like going to the gym and would love something at home to work with that's portable, easy to use, and gives a workout. This is it! It is small, and I do have to stand on the edges for long twist workouts because I notice my knees start to ache, but sturdy! It's light enough to travel with but sturdy enough that I feel comfortable with it. The suggested workouts are a nice touch. I used it for the first night, and my abs ached from my ribs to my ... lower ab area. I don't suggest you replace your workout entirely with it, since it didn't make me sweat, but it's a GREAT supplement. And of course, you get to twist! It's fun!

Great for working out while watching TV, August 14, 2011
By Linda (Arkansa USA)
|

I had something similar to this twist board before. This is much better without the sharp teeth which were made of clear hard plastic, were easy to break off. The rounded bumps are much easier for feet. I can choose to wear socks or go on barefoot.
I have set it at 8 feet from TV set. Whenever I turn on the TV, I step on the twist board. Instead of being a couch potato, I burn calories.

cool stuff, July 10, 2011
By michelle

I had this on my wish list, and Im not sure who bought and sent it to me!? Thanks!
Out of the box, I was concerned that it was a little flimsy. Ii could lose 10lbs, but I'm looking to just trim a bit... but this is like two frisbees with casters, or rollers between them. (Think of your microwave's turntable.) But it works.
I stepped on it and twisted a handful of times, and I was sore in my solar plexus. I tried a few minutes later, thinking that if I squat down that surely that would get rid of the sore feeling up higher. Ha! nope... got a hip/thigh work out though. The trick is to not forget to squeeze your lower abs while twisting.

It's good., January 6, 2012

All the comments about the size of the board are sort of right. I wear a size 7 and it works just fine for me. Stand up straight and flex your abs just like you would if you were doing squats or something and you will feel it in your upper abs within 5 minutes - or at least I do!!!! Not only do my friends get on this when they come over, but my kids like to do it too!!

I am female with size 12 feet, so this is a bit of a challenge for me. I wish it were of a greater diameter. So there I am, 6 feet tall, size 12 feet, twisting.....amazing and I really do like it a lot. I can see how it enables one to get the twisting workout to the abs, hips and thighs....

Nifty little device, for the price :), December 28, 2011
By leapfrog81

I received this as a Christmas gift from a friend a few days ago, so I haven't had it for very long, but so far I am happy with it. I had read a previous review that suggested it might be a little small, and I may need two; one for each foot. After trying it out I realize that one is just fine. I am 5' 5" and 195 lbs so I'm not a very small person, but I still had no trouble fitting both feet on at once. The construction seems pretty sturdy and it spins nice and smooth, even with all my weight on it. I wanted it more to help stretch my back than for actual exercise, but after using it I'm kinda thinking it's a good way to practice balance, in addition to working my abs. (And yes it does make my back feel good too!)

The twist board works but to be honest it does almost feel like it is going to break each time I use it. I only weigh 148 but it really does not work as well as I thought it would. I still use it.

I was looking for a waist twister for such long and finally found it! This is an amazing buy! Good price, great quality (unexpectedly since its made out of hard plastic rather than metal), and works very well. Bought one for myself and all of my friends. Plus, it arrived within 2 day!

In love with this waist trimmer. My mom had one of the original square models made out of wood or should I say plexi board....we used it constantly and even sat on it cross legged and spun around on it for fun. I see my waist getting smaller by the second. GREAT PRICE!! GREAT BUY!!!! GREAT WAIST TRIMMER...
