Much better than previous versions...., December 19, 2006
By L. Eidson (Texas, USA)

I bough two of these new Delta fork mounts for my wife's Xterra (I built my own interior rack using an L-shaped piece of sheet-metal, and attached these mounts).
Pros: In the previous Delta fork mount, getting the arm lined up for the locking position took several tries, but now the new design just goes right into place.
Cons: Once the lever arm is closed, you really have to work your fingers or possibly a tool into the gap to open it. In the end, this is for the best as you don't want this thing opening up without some force.
Summary: Use these to make your own bike rack using 2X6 planks in the back of your truck, or go to the hardware store and get creative with your SUV.....

Perfect!, June 9, 2008

I have a full size van that I often leave my bikes in. I replaced the regular mounts with the locking Delta mounts, and feel significantly more at ease leaving my valuable bikes locked securely inside.

Well worth the money, April 24, 2007
By JohnyO (Ohio)

I bought these mounts to make a rack for my truck bed. I had a cheap Harbor Freight cargo bar that I mounted two of these to. They work great. The lock tab is great feature that doesn't come on the $20 bike shop fork mounts.
One slight shortcoming would be the difficulty opening the lock once closed. A small tool to pry the lever from the lock tab would help.
Overall for the same price as one name brand mount from an LBS I had two delivered to my house.

exactly what I needed, September 26, 2009
By W. Krekeler

Use the Delta Bike Hitch to create your own secure truck bed, or in car vertical bike rack. I mounted two of these to a 2x6, covered the 2x6 with fabric, and bought two locks. All < $60 for a custom bike rack that lets me mount 2 bikes inside a Honda Fit without damaging the seats, or worrying about the paint on the outside of the car. Product is as described and works well.

Definately worth the money!!, May 24, 2010
By David S. Kaplan (California, USA)

I have had this product for about a month and so far it works great, is easy to use and holds my bike(s) secure. My only issue is, when the mount is closed it is hard to pull it open, because you cannot get your finger between the fixed, and moving part of the clamp (the reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5). To help with this I put a small piece of rope through the hole of the moving part of the clamp so I have something that is easy to grab and pull.

Great Value, April 21, 2010
By Louis (Kansas City, MO)

It's simple: You can't beat these for the price. The stand-off spacer on the lever side gives clearance to operate them, which is a nice touch. The lever and the other stationary bar are much beefier than they appear in the picture. Adjustment before locking down is the key with these. You will know if it's too tight while trying to close the lever. If so, just back off the nut a tad and try again. For $15 each you just can't go wrong. I bought three (two or more qualifies for free shipping. free is good!) and mounted them to a 2x6 which I place in the front of the pickup bed. All for less than a single big name mount cost!
For the nit-pickers out there, my only complaint is there is no smaller flange for the fork to rest on. It rests right on the skewer's "axle." So making minor adjustments has to be done with the bike's weight resting on the axle. That takes away that free-floating feel of the skewer you get on higher end models, and makes final adjustment a bit touchy. But this is a minor issue for those not easily annoyed and looking for a good value.

Price and quality can't be beat, December 4, 2009
By Godzilla Morton (Texas)

I bought this because it is lockable, it looked like it would mount perfectly to the utili-track system in my Nissan Frontier and it's inexpensive compared to the competitors. Everything works great. It's very sturdy and with my mountain bike mounted I can close the tailgate with a couple of inches to spare. It can be hard to open if you don't adjust it correctly, but that means it's more secure. I just throw a screwdriver in the truck bed in case I need to pry it open.

Becareful as this is not a fool proof lock!!!!, October 27, 2011
By JM

Bike hitch installs easily with 1/4" bolts (not included I purchased stainless steel bolts so they wouldn't rust or corrode. Mounted two of these to the top of my tool box on my truck. clamp the bike in and I added a bungee cord for extra stability to the back of the bike. I like the locking feature as you some times get caught needing to use the restroom or what ever and don't want to just leave your bike unattended. *****This is only to keep people Honest as it doesn't really lock any thing.****** To defeat it you just need some pliers and you can back the bolt off the other side. This is why I give it three stars. I do like it and I would recommend it to others.

Great Product!, August 16, 2011
By Tim Daniels (Mosinee, Wisconsin USA)

An excellent hitch at an excellent price. I built a bike carrier out of wood to go on top of our pop-up camper. I used these hitches to secure the bikes and recently took it on a 500-mile trip. They worked great! They really hold and are easy to adjust. Note: You do need a screwdriver or something to pry them open. The option to add a padlock is nice, too.

Great Price, decent mount, June 22, 2011
By Jerry (New York USA)
|
|
For the price, this is a great mount. This is just about exactly what I wanted and the price couldn't be beat. I was actually looking for something that was steel so I could weld this to a mount in the bed of my pickup. While this mount and others like it do lock, they are bolted down and I find that to be a weakness that is hard to overcome. The fact that it is steel will allow me to weld it to a tubular steel crossmember in the front of the bed (if I get around to it ever). Of course, this WILL compromise the powder coating and require it to be repainted but I'm OK with that for the added security. I usually also use a cable lock for the frame of the bike.
I read reviews of the locking lever of the skewer being difficult to open due to the fixed part that it locks to, I have found this indeed to be the case and usually either have something on hand to pry it open or am digging for some random object to do so if I've forgotten it. I do appreciate that I can use my own padlocks instead of being restricted to using a proprietary lock like on a Thule or others.

Waterloo Iowa engineer, May 8, 2011
By Iowa cyclist (Waterloo, Iowa)

I just installed 4 delta locking fork hitches to a trailer. Attachment was easy and there is a tube between fork end to keep the mount from deflecting when the cam is tightened. I have mounted a Tandem road bike, a Madone road bike and a mountain bike. Seemed fine. I have not tried to put a padlock on yet, but hole is large so should fit almost any padlock. MY only issue is that the mounting holes are not very offset from the tube above. That made using power tools difficult to fasten lag screws through the holes. Not a problem with an open end/ box end wrench.

Amazing quality for the price, May 2, 2011
By Hawkeye

Given I could get 2 of these for <$30 shipped these are much better than I expected. The metal they are made of is very strong and rigid. The fork clamp feels high quality and despite others qualms about getting it back open after closing, I have not had an issue with this. I found it very easy to operate even without something to pry it open.
I bolted these into the bed of my truck and they look like they belong. I took the bikes on a drive to a local path and it works just like you would expect a fork mount to work. I am very happy with the product overall and would definitely buy it again.
The only thing I don't like (but has a simple fix) is that you can access the screw holes even when the bike is mounted. This would make it possible to take the entire mount off and the bike at the same time. I used security screws, loctite and lock nuts in mounting to combat this downfall and would be surprised if I could even get them back off the truck.

Works like a charm!, April 14, 2010
By A. Arcangel (Hawaii)

These fork mount clamps work like a charm. I ordered two to transport two bikes in my pickup truck. Got them mounted to a 2x10 piece of wood that was sitting in the backyard. I can throw the whole thing in my truck bed and remove with ease. Once you get the clamp adjusted to your fork, there's no need to adjust it again. It is pretty tight when you loosen it to remove your bike. I have to get it a few love taps to loosen it from the fork once I have the clamp in the open position. Highly recommend this product for the price and quality. I would've loved to spend more on a Yakima clamp but I saved A LOT by going this route.

Works well enough, March 31, 2010
By Edward

Certainly mounts securely to my truck bedrails. However the axle compression mechanism was a little off. It works fine for my purposes, but I wouldnt trust it to hold a $3k mountain bike from thieves in downtown (city).
If all you are trying to do is transport a few bikes for the family or friends from the garage to the bike path, trails whatever this should be more than adequate. If you rely on your bike fork carrier for theft protection, invest in something from a larger company like Yakima or Thule.

Does the Job, March 4, 2010
By dachunger (Houston, TX)

The hitch does what it is suppose to. At first it looked kind of flimsy and I thought that my fork will slip out but the fork is locked in pretty tight. In my set up, I mounted the hitch to a 2x6 board which I lay in the truck bed. That way, I can remove the 2x6 and have use of the full bed without somthing sticking out. You will also need some way to secure the back wheel or it will swing around when you take sharp corners in your truck. I got a ratcheting cargo bar which I layed across the top of my back wheel to keep it in place and secured it with a velcro tye.
Only complaint I have is that the spacer tab (the tab next to the quick release) sticks and hard to move back and forth. I tried greasing that part and it helped some.
I recently looked at the Delta bike hitch pro2 at a bike shop, it costs $10 more but seems lot more sturdy and the mechanism seems to be lot smoother.

Good Investment, January 5, 2010
By JPG

I purchased two of these bike mounts so that I could get me and my sons MTB's mounted in the back of my pick up. The mechanism isn't the smoothest but it open up wide enough that I don't have to mess around with unscrewing it to get the bikes off. I mounted them onto the toolbox in the back of my truck and that worked great for my sons bike. My bike has the disc brakes so I had to use a piese of dee[ strut to mount to the tool box first to get me the clearance that I needed. If you compare the price to Thule or Yakima you'll realize that you can buy 2 or 3 of these for the same price. So far I think its been a great product.

Excellent product at a great price, recommended., May 6, 2011

I call all the local shops, and for the most basic models they all wanted $30. I was able to buy a pair of these mounts for less then $30 total, free shipping, got it in 3 days, no complaints.
The product is well built, solid, elegant, doesn't look like made in china quality, it works, it does what it is meant to do. No complaints, recommended.
After mounting the bikes a couple of times for a short run to the local bike trail, I stop using this device, too much hassle, I just trow the bike on the back of the truck and go...

Works right, product is alright, April 15, 2012
By RM

First I gave it 4 stars not 5 because the locking mechanism is a sham. After securing the fork you can put a lock on the mount but it doesnt do anything. The opposite side simply unscrews thus releasing the bike.
As for a mount it works perfect!!!! I just bought another one. Material feels strong (but we will see). It is low profile which I like. Only other draw back is when you close the silver clamp it can be difficult to open it again due to the lack of space between the silver levers (as pictured). Since you can't actually lock it, the second lever is actually pointless and should be removed for easier use of the mount.

Bike mount, September 7, 2011

very nice functioning bike mount. The mounting holes are round..... I wish they were square holes so you can mount it with carriage bolts as another safety. I also bought the other mount by delta with the O-ring in it to keep the arm in place. I like that one a lot better and it's well worth the extra $2 bucks
