The Giro Hex Mountain Bike Helmet is constructed with in-mold technology that fuses a tough outer microshell to the helmet's EPS foam liner. The fusion process reinforces areas around vents and ribs, making the helmet lighter, cooler and tougher. The Hex utilizes Giro's Roc Loc 4 system, which includes adjustments for fit tensioning and helmet positioning, plus a supple rubber over-molded fit belt for both comfort and stability. This Giro helmet features 21 vents that allow cool, fresh air in and stale, warm air out. The Giro Hex also features a P.O.V. (Point Of View) adjustable visor that is anchored by a patented internal clutch, which allows 15-degrees of vertical adjustment and prevents the visor from rattling and coming loose over rough terrain. The Hex mountain helmet comes in three Super Fit sizes, which combine human scale factor data with handcrafted headforms and rider feedback for ultimate comfort. Giro's Hex helmet is a lightweight 310 grams, and complies with U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's safety standards for bicycle helmets. Helmet Tips--You Should Always... - Wear a helmet when you ride
- Wear your helmet low in the front to protect the forehead
- Fasten your buckle and tighten your chin strap
- Check your adjustments every time you wear your helmet
- Inspect your helmet regularly for signs of wear or damage
- Wear a helmet designed for your activity
About Giro Working late nights in his garage, designer/bike racer Jim Gentes created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in 1985. Friends at NASA helped tune the final helmet shape and vent placement, and the result was the Giro Prolight, a helmet that was better looking than traditional designs while offering a superior fit and still met the industry's toughest safety standards. Plus, it was half the weight of traditional helmets. Since then, Giro has advanced its helmets, many of which have set the standards for styling, function, and innovation for progressive, performance-oriented riders on dirt, pavement, and snow. Giro helmets are worn by millions of riders, cyclists, skiers, and snowboarders around the world. Young-bloods and old-timers; hard-cores, heshers, and hipsters; rookies, experts, and a few regular Joes too--in fact, pretty much anyone that appreciates superior fit and function, cutting edge styling, and the very best ideas you get in a helmet.

This will do for now, January 18, 2007
By El Ombligo (San Diego, CA USA)

Pros:
Air ventilation is truly excellent, fit is snug and comfortable, feels very light, the visor does not chatter in the wind, the helmet's design is fairly stylish.
Cons:
The straps often need to be pushed away from the back of my ears, the rubber part of "overmolded arm" on the RocLoc system inside the helmet interferes with the back tips of my glasses.
The helmet is used mainly for my daily commute. The RocLoc system makes the helmet fit well but at the expense of not being able to wear sunglasses comfortably. I wanted to try the Giro brand after I wore out my excellent Bell X-Ray helmet. When this Giro Hex wears out I will replace it with a new Bell X-Ray.

Crashed it and it did it's job well..., August 13, 2007
By Wil (Seattle, WA USA)

I'm sitting here having just ordered my second Gyro Hex helmet. I'm typing with a broken bone in my elbow and a cracked rib, but thankfully a fully intact skull...
Living in Seattle we have a certain amount of rain, this summer slightly less so. So a couple of weeks ago on my way into work I wasn't paying proper attention for a rainy Monday morning ride, hit a slippery patch on a corner at 15-20mph, my bike flipped and my 190lb self ended up plummeting head (and elbow) first into the asphalt...
I have never been so glad of a helmet in all of my life; it totally absorbed the impact (all be it by cracking into four parts, as expected). The actual structure of the helmet stayed together and gave my head all of the protection it needed as I slid along... The best 90 bucks I have spent all year
Initially I was going to buy a cheaper model as in 35 years of cycling I've never really had any need for the protection, but I'm glad that Matt black styling convinced me to pay the extra for a helmet which really did it's job...
As well as the protection, I found this helmet nice and cool and very comfortable to wear on a 16 mile daily commute (for the 6 months until I broke it...)

CHeck the size, September 21, 2010

The helmet fits well. Make sure to check your head size before purchasing. They seem to run a little smaller than previous Giro helmets I have bought.

Keeps my head cool!, August 19, 2009
By Austin Guy 2005 (Cedar Park TX)
|
|
Looks good, durable, and keeps my head cool during a long ride. My only complaint is I got a medium (I think I have a rather small head as my last helmet was a small (and I don't think I resemble a bobblehead what so ever) and it barely fits on my head with the adjustment straps expanded to their fullest. So I would buy a large if I had to do it again (hard to try on before it shows up in the mail). Great helmet though!

We have a winner!, February 16, 2008
By P.A.R. (Palm Desert, CA USA)

It's nice to be able to find items like this at about half the retail price offered in most bicycle shops. After testing most helmets I found the HEX the most comfortable. I recommend this helmet over many more expensive models as it offers very adequate protection. It won't however save your ankle!

good helmet, April 25, 2010
By Ryal T. Bird (United States)
|
|
Seems like a good helmet, it's a good brand. I like the adjustable visor. Only complaint is with the inside of the helmet, at the very top & center, it pokes into my head very uncomfortably. I put one of the included foam pads in there and it seemed to do the trick.

Good Design; Too Pricy, September 2, 2009
By duff man (Everywhere, USA)

|
I really enjoy and respect Giro helmets. They are durable, effective, and well-designed. However, they are way too pricy. I needed a helmet fast, and I found this one to be just what I needed. However, I still regret paying so much for it. Also, the size adjuster on this helmet is a ridiculous mess. I do not understand why it does not just have a turn dial adjustmer instead of the nightmarish slide adjuster. The adjustable visor is a nice option, and this helmet provides EXCELLENT air flow to the head.

Excellent Helmet, December 26, 2008
By Anthony Ingenito (Sarasota, FL)
|
|
I bought this helmet because my old helmet almost made me pass-out after a few strenuous trail runs in the Florida heat. I had read other reviews (on MTBR) where people had claimed that this helmet had excellent air flow. They were correct. You can actually feel the air flowing through the deep grooves in the underside of the helmet. The helmet is light, and has extra protection for the lower part of the back of your head. It is also comfortable and looks great in the matte-black color.

super light and comfortable, September 21, 2007
By M. Doiron (Portland, ME USA)

First off the adjustment system Giro has ROCKS! The rear head adjust "Roc Loc" system is great, everything adjusts very eaisly and stays put. I had an older Giro that alway worked the ear buds to my iPod out, thats not a problem on this model. Very light, super ventilation, and looks slick. I've been very happy with this helmet.

Budget Zen, March 28, 2007
By BigPig (CA, USA)

|
I almost got Giro Zen. But the high price made me think twice. Then I came accross this Hex. It is not as perfect fit as Zen to me, but still comfortable. It has similar features as Zen, with a lot less price. It even has better looking then Zen in my opinion. Highly recommended if it fits you.

Looks cool, feels cool, fits great -- what more do you want?, January 19, 2009
By xcu (Sherman Oaks, CA)

Great Helmet! I like the design with all the angles and I like the fact the helmet doesnt stick out too much in the back. It's about as compact as a helmet can be and still protect you. Is light and vents well. Not too dorky looking. Buy the right size for you and it fits great. And, of course, NEVER buy a "universal" one-size-fits-all helmet -- that really means it won't fit (they really should be outlawed because they won't provide as good of protection.) This is a really good helmet. I'm going to buy another, in case this one ever gets tested (crash!).

just right, July 13, 2008
By E. Costa (NYC)

Light, easy to adjust, comfortable and looks good. With any luck I will never know what it is like in an accident.
Seems like there are a lot of helmets out there that are similar and decent quality, so the fact that it was on sale was what sold this one for me. Big props to Bike Nashbar for shipping it lightning fast!

Slow shipping, good product, July 9, 2008
By Gadget Guy (Utah, USA)
|
|
You'd think that with all the negative reviews about their shipping time that they would do something about it, but no. I waited seven days before they even shipped the product, then seven more for it to get here. Helmet arrived in good condition though.
