5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great little frame pump, October 29, 2007
By Eric (TX)
I got lucky, had this pump on my bike for only 2 days and then got a flat. Worked like a charm. Easy to attach to bike and the frame bracket that comes with this pump allows you to install this under a water bottle cage. This frees up for another water bottle cage! Good value for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice little pump, July 15, 2007
By Dana A. Nuccitelli (West Sacramento, CA USA)
This bike pump is small, easy to use, and can attach to the same portion of the bike as the water bottle cage. That way you can always have the pump with you in case of emergencies! I really like that aspect of it.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Works but after a struggle, July 13, 2009
By Andy A (NYC)
I purchased this pump and tried using it before a really long ride... It took me about 30 min to get it to work in my house, after i lost most of the air in my tire trying to get it to work and still wound up with really low tire pressure. I wound up having to go to my local bike shop to use their pump... This is only good for extreme emergencies where you have no other choice...

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent emergency pump, July 6, 2010
By Derigiberble
This is an excellent emergency pump. It will not replace a real floor pump for everyday inflation but it is a must have when you are out and about. This pump, some tire levers, and a patch kit will make almost any flat tire a minor inconvenience.

The pump is convertible between presta and schrader valve types by unscrewing where the pump latches onto the valve and and flipping some parts. Pumping on both the push and pull strokes is great because it not only inflates twice as fast but it also lets you use different sets of muscles which keeps you from getting tired out. The pump can hit fairly high pressures too if you work at it. I managed to get the tire up to 90psi on a roadside repair, measured on my floor pump after I got home.

You will get a flat while riding, it is only a matter of time. This pump is small, quick, pumps well, and you don't lose a water-bottle mounting to it.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Not as advertised, May 10, 2009
By Hobby Addict (Gilbert, AZ United States)
Even though it looks almost identical to the one pictured, I must have received the wrong item. There is no way possible for this thing (the one I received) to be compatible with a Presta valve, as the description says it is. It works OK with Schrader valves, not great though, so even if that was the only criteria I was basing this review on it would still only get 2 stars... max.

On top of everything else, the package was obviously opened and the item used before I received it.

Nothing else to say about it. Just simply don't waste your money on this product, especially if you have Presta valves.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Confusing at first, but works GREAT!, June 25, 2011
By A. E. Coulombe (Bethlehem, NH United States)
It took me a solid fifteen minutes of dedicated tinkering to figure out that there wasn't a hidden Presta-valve adapter or anything, but the top of the pump needs to be completely disassembled a flipped around in order to work with Prestas. Once I got past that ridiculous obstacle though, I've had nothing but good fortune with this pump--- it's gotten dirty, clogged, bashed around, and still is a great way to fill up my tires on the go. 10-15 pumps usually do it for me. Very recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good emergency pump, February 8, 2010
By randl578 (OKC, OK)
I bought this pump since it works for both presta and shrader valves and it does what it says. This definitely should not replace a good floor pump, but when you are stranded it will fill the tire enough to get home. Don't expect it to fill your road tires to anywhere near 100+ psi, unless you have arms like the hulk.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for mountain bikes, fair for road, February 25, 2012
By MediocrityX (Berkeley, CA)
I ride a road bike with tires that need to be inflated to 120 psi. I have used this pump several times when I have punctured a tire and this was enough to get me home. However it is not possible to use this pump to inflate beyond 100 psi with this pump. I upgraded to the turbo morph with gauge (also by topeak) and I'm really happy with that purchase. However if you ride a mountain bike then this is sufficient.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Does what it is supposed to do, November 9, 2011
By madigan
Yes it does Presta valves. No you are not missing any pieces. Yes the instructions on the box make no sense at first. Unscrew the head and you'll see a rubber stopper. It doesn't look it it comes out but lift the lock and you can pull it out. Then flip the two parts according to those instructions that now make more sense and put everything back together.

As for how it works, it does its job. Has a nice attachment to go under a bottle cage and feels nice and secure. As for inflating a tire, going from a new tube to 140psi is a pain. That's what a floor pump is for. This is for when you are out and need to go from a flat to enough to get back home. I bought this thinking I could only use this and after a few days, I bought a floor pump. That's not to say it can't get the job done, its just doing a job its not made to do.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice pump, June 5, 2010

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Little pump, April 2, 2009
By G. Venetico (Savannah, Ga)
The pump claims to do what it is supposed to do. It pumps well as I tested it, but I have yet to use it in an emergency situation. I was able to hook it up to my bike and it fits perfectly.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Not recommended for Presta valves, July 17, 2010
By aynnej (Bloomington, IN USA)
It works, but I had a devil of a time getting and maintaining a seal on presta valves. It's very cumbersome to use and heats up quickly. But, it is affordable, small, lightweight and connects nicely to the frame (plastic holder bolts to the frame). So, I'm keeping mine for emergency use, but if someone swipes it I won't shed any tears, and will happily replace it with a pump that's easier to use.

Note -- I haven't tried this on a schrader valve.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice pump. Better than I expected..., February 19, 2012
By Woof (Catonsville, MD USA)
I figured these were decent pumps based on other reviews but these (I ordered multiple) were better than I expected. I hadn't bought a pump in a very long while. I needed a replacement and a 20 year old pump and new one for a new bike. I didn't understand the "dual action" feature until I had the pump. This means it pumps air during both up and downstrokes.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome but no instructions!, August 4, 2011
By WildFire
it says specifically only sold in bike stores, so it makes sense that there would be an associate to help with any questions. it would also make sense that someone buying this fine tool would know how to use it, considering the price. I however may be the exception. no included instructions and felt a lost trying to make this sucker work. after searching online I found what i looked for, but cmon, no instructions?

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Much bigger than I thought, July 14, 2011
By L. D. Francum Jr. (Wilmington, NC)
10+ inches long, much bigger than I thought from looking at the pictures. Next time I'll take the time to check the dimensions.

Seems like a good pump, but I may as well ride around with an air compressor.

By jeff453
Good pump for the money. It is very useful in an emergency when fixing a flat. You will need to use some power to inflate a new tube, but it mounts very well to most mountain bikes. It is an excellent emergency pump but a floor pump is still a must.I would recommend a Topeak floor pump as well.Their products are well made.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent pump for a bike, September 11, 2010
By NF (NY)
I was surprised how well it worked at filling up my bike tire. Once attached and sealed around the stem, it filled up very well and relatively quickly. Of course it took some pumping, but it wasn't exactly a tiring job. The pump holder attached easily to my water bottle holder by removing the the bottle holder, then reinstalling with the pump bracket screwed in behind the water bottle holder, thus allowing the pump to be attached next to the bottle bracket. It's an excellent pump for a bike, plain and simple.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Tiny, light, solid, inexpensive., August 2, 2010
By Victor Bornia (Studio City, CA USA)
Works great. Here's something: Not a complaint, just a note that the little "clip" thing is "ON" when it's flipped UP; a little counter-intuitive, but the back of the box explains fully (didn't think I needed to read it!).

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good buy!! as my first bike pump for my little folding bicycle!, February 20, 2010
By H. Sawada (Los Angeles, CA USA)
I got a small folding bicycle from my friend last week. Then, I needed to buy an affordable, trusted, doesn't take space bike pump. I checked 6 bike pumps on Amazon, reading all the review and I got this one. It was bigger than I expected and powerful enough to pump my small bicycle wheels. The size ( length ) is about 11 inch, when I pull the pump all the way, is about 13.5 inch. In the picture, it looked smaller than what it is. I am glad it is bigger than I thought. My bicycle wheels ( tires ) lose air little by little and I need to give air once a week. I use it yesterday. I just push 3-4 times on each wheels. I like this product very much already!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Does its job, October 15, 2009
By Pinger (Astoria, NY United States)
The minute I opened it, did not wait to get a flat. Released air from the tire and filled it with the Topeak. It took only 15-20 short pumps to stabilze wheel. Probably not to 60psi, but more than enough to get to a real pump. Another 20 pumps might have got it to 40-50psi. Small enough to fit into a backpack unnoticeably. Just hope it holds up for extended usage.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Just what I needed!, August 11, 2009
By Trevor Macomber
I'm not a serious biking enthusiast, but I recently "inherited" a 10-year-old suspensionless mountain bike whose tires had a tendency to flatten out after a few rides. Fortunately, this little guy was exactly what I needed. It quickly and easily reinflates the tubes with minimal hassle or muscle. Best of all, since it clamps on right under the water bottle holder, it's always handy in case of an unexpected, mid-trip deflation. I would have given it five stars, but it was a little tricky to actually clamp onto the valve at first. I think it's just a knack thing.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Good starter, but no staying power, July 21, 2011
By JiggyJ
Bought without any research from that well known bike shop beginning with "H". Looked good, with a handy bracket that secures well to your frame, but I ended up carrying mine in my backpack.
On the plus side - this pump worked well for about two years of regular use. I'm a regular weekend club mountainbiker, and would use the pump almost weekly, just for punctures. I have a stand pump for general inflation. It's not too heavy, and fitted nicely into my packs. But that's about it...
On the minus side - after a while the pumping power faded, as the plunger wore out. The connection mechanism to the valve also wore quickly. The other day it gave up after half inflating the tyre.

Try Blackburn (with a lifetime guarantee as long as you keep it) at a fraction more of the cost.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Not a bad little pump, September 12, 2010
By Matthew (Commack, New York)
I got this pump with my new road bike in May of 2010. For the last 4 months and few hundred miles, the pump sat there next to my bottle cage looking pretty...that is until I got a flat this morning. Took my Topeak mini and tried to attach it to my presta valve. NO GO. There is a little red thing in the head that just does not let the valve into the head far enough. Luckily my riding buddy had a functioning pump.
I own a Topeak Joe Blow floor pump which has worked great for years. This little pump is USELESS to me. Thought Topeak would do better than this.

UPDATE 9/15/10:

As per my update below. I called TOPEAK who told me how to reverse the head to make it compatible with my presta valves. Took my about a minute and now works fine. So the fault goes to my LBS who sold me the pump attached to my bike with no instructions AND set up for the wrong valves.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  defective product, August 31, 2011
By cjk
I could not get the head to work on my presta valve. Returned it for another one and same thing. Was hoping it would work, as I liked the idea of placing it on water bottle cage.

Amazon was very good at working with me on this issue.

Thanks! Sorry it didn't work out.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I just used it to pump my MOTORCYCLE tire up......., September 9, 2011
By Amazoncustomer
This little thing is great so far. I even used it to pump up my motorcycle tire (just to see if it would work). While it did take a bit of effort and the pump does get a bit warm from friction, the bottom line is that it worked. Great little pump for the money.

I even thought about buying another one for my motorcycle, and I still might, but I obviously cannot carry a spare motorcycle tire with me....I would just use it to "top off" my tires when needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Please read other reviews on how to use it, May 11, 2012

When I opened the package, at first I was upset because I thought there were pieces missing. But as other reviewers said, the head disassembles so you use it as either pump type. Once I figured this out, I am very happy with the pump.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  good pump, May 10, 2012
By bcliff (Massachusetts)
I purchased this pump to carry on my dirt bike for trailside flat repairs. It works as it is suppose to and is made with good quality components. I have no complaints and it does what I need it to do. It takes about 50 pumps for me to get my dirt bike tire pressure to 20lbs.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  A Generous 2 Stars, May 7, 2012
By Jen
I would give this one star, but I added the second just in case there was user error or just a suspicious coincidence.

Why would they not include a better diagram of how to switch the valves? I know now that this method of going from presta to schrader is commonplace, but this being my first small frame pump, I had to search online for directions. No big deal really, until....

I tested the pump out on the front tire of my cross bike after maybe 25 miles of riding. Swapped to presta, put it on the valve, locked it, and heard the swoosh of air escaping. I removed it quickly, thinking it was not connected properly, and when I did, part of the headpiece was left stuck on the valve.

When I pulled the headpiece off, I heard air continue to leak. I knew immediately something was wrong, which was confirmed when my tire went FLAT, and FAST.

I grabbed my tire levers, and lo and behold, I had a rip in my tube where the valve connects. I can only assume this happened either when I attached the valve, or when I had to remove the piece of the headpiece that got stuck. Tire had always held air perfectly prior, no sign of leakage.

I didn't plan on replacing a tube today, but thanks to Topeak, I had to. Swell.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Just what we need for our non-pro bikes, March 25, 2012
By xaminmo (Highland Village, TX)
We were tired of pulling out the compressor, and had problems with past pumps.

This one is well machined, no wobbly parts. It pumps on the push and the pull strokes.

It seems fairly small, but it made quick work of inflating my kids' 20"x2.1" tires - maybe 1 minute to get to 55LBS.

Also, it's inexpensive. Just exactly what we needed.

This goes to 140LBS, and can work on Shrader & presta valves, plus a third kind (dunlop?). It's compact, light, and has a mounting bracket to install under a water bottle holder. Definitely a good choice for all but the most intense riders.

Just be sure your rim hole is deburred, because it's hard not to push the valve stem sideways when using this little pump.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect Frame Pump, March 18, 2012
By Shaun Hazel (Tacoma, WA)
Have had to replace and air up and This little pump works perfectly without almost any effort.

Light weight and mounts directly to the other water cage mounts. If you only have one set of mounts, the bracket will sandwich between your water bottle cage and frame easily.

Strongly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great little pump for the price!, November 5, 2011
By the Amazing Ben
This is a fantastic little tire pump! I love that it's small enough to fit on your bike frame without taking up too much space, that it installs alongside a water bottle holder, and that it's specially designed to pump air as you push AND pull the handle.

My one qualm is that though the Topeak Mini is fully capable of fitting any kind of valve, they don't include any instructions on how to make it do so. Fortunately, I was able to find an instructional video (from the manufacturer) on swapping out the internal pump head parts.
