2.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, until it dies, December 28, 2007
By dude-on-stuff (san francisco)
Bought this for my motorcycle along with the pen version. They work great, and give (seemingly) accurate readings. The head angle makes it easy to get around the brake rotors on my SV-650.

Unfortunately, the pen gauge died about 2 years after I got it, and the regular one died after 5 years: it would just show "L" on the LCD. I cracked it open and discovered the "lifetime" battery had died. I had to cut some plastic to change it out, but even with a new battery it would then only read "1.0" so perhaps it needs to be calibrated or something.

I rate this 2 stars because they advertise it as having a "lifetime" battery when the battery obviously dies after a few years of infrequent use. It is also impossible to change the battery so you have to throw the whole unit away to buy a new one.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works as described, February 2, 2007
By Gauteng (VA, United States)
I bought this to use on a BMW motorcycle because it has awkward access to the pressure valve on the rims. It works beautifully and the spoken measurement is very handy when you can't see the readout. The readings are consistent with other gauges which I believe to be accurate so all in all this is a solid product and works as described.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Reduces the hassle of checking pressure, July 5, 2007
By ricosf (San Francisco)
Oddly enough, like the only other reviewer so far I'm also a BMW motorcycle owner. And I don't check my tire pressure as often as I should, 'cause it has always been a major hassle.

I saw this reviewed on some motorcycle review website (probably webBikeWorld) and decided to give it a shot.

It definitely does the trick: very easy to use, although I would have preferred skipping the vocalization of it had saved a buck or two. Worth the bucks.

Update, many moons later: actually, the vocalization is pretty cool. When I'm wearing my helmet and leathers, it's tough enough to reach beneath a hot muffler in the first place -- the fact that this audibly tells me the pressure means I spend less time down on my knees in dirty gas station parking lots.

But something else turned out to be even more useful that I hadn't noted in my original review. This gizmo *remembers* what the pressure was, for a minute or for a month. Okay, so "for a month" isn't too useful, but the memory is definitely useful. Imagine being down on your hands and knees on the asphalt, at night, with a freeway blasting by a few yards away. You won't be able to hear this gizmo's voice, and maybe can't even see the readout. But it will remember the setting while you grunt and stand up and walk around to your headlight to check it. The old stick-style gauges would tend to spring back into their holders too easily. Does this sound the grumblings of a middle-aged biker? Well, yeah. But it's still a good product.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Does Not Work In Cold Weather, March 15, 2008
By Ann Maxwell (Oak Park, Il.)
I purchased this pressure gauge late February 2008. I have kept this gauge inside my house when not in use. Well, last week, I left the gauge in the garage for a few days where the overnight temperatures got down to just below 30 degrees F. When I went to use the gauge a few days later it would not work at all. I brought the gauge inside for a couple hours and checked it after it "warmed up". It worked fine. I put it back outside for 1 hour when the temp was about 33 degrees F. Again....it would not work. What a pain in the ole keister. This gauge is not worth it unless you live in areas of the country that are always warm. I'm going to try to return this gauge and buy a different brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Tire gauge gave mixed results, April 8, 2008
By Ruth Troetschler (Los Altos, CA United States)
Based on the good reviews in Amazon I purchased several of these as Christmas stocking gifts. Although they were described as "easy to connect," some of the recipients were unable to use the gauge on their particular car/motorcycle/bicycle. For those where the connection worked, they were very pleased, but others could not use the gauge because of leaks at the connection.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Audible feature is really handy, December 9, 2007
By Reader Pane (USA)
As other reviewers have said, the audible feature is quite handy--it speeds up the filling/releasing air process. It's easy to fit this gauge to my motorcycle tires but less so for my car. Hi-Tec makes another pencil gauge that might fit better. I don't own that one but you might want to check it out.

I'm very happy with this gauge. If it were easier to fit on a car tire I'd give it five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Accurate and easy to use, November 5, 2007
By SWFC Pilot (Houston, TX)
I like this device. I bought one after reading the review on Webbikeworld and various motorcycle owner forums. It's very consistent in pressure measurements and fits into places that a regular gauge can't. Our ST1300 has a very small distance between the valve stem and hub of the rear wheel and add in the shaft drive hardware on one side and brake disc on the other and it all adds up to a difficult reach with a regular gauge. Not so with the 90-degree head on the RoadGear model.

I thought the voice readout would be more like a gimmick at first, but I already like it. I can get a quick pressure reading off a tire and then know what the pressure is without having to pull the device out to read it. It makes it especially easy when I need to let some air out. Just push down enough for the air to escape but not activate the gauge and when you think you have let out enough, push it down the rest of the way and listen for the readout. Repeat as necessary. VERY convenient!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Dead on arrival, June 25, 2009
By AmazonWoman (SF Bay Area)
I can't even complain about poor performance. This item arrived today, and has failed to work AT ALL after repeated attempts. It won't talk to me, won't show a readout, NOTHING - even after trying a new battery. Needless to say, it's going back.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  HI-TEC Digital Tire Gauge, February 8, 2008
By J. M. Haro (Omaha, NE USA)
Great device for when limited space is available for checking tire pressure. It's great with the verbal voice of tire pressure so you don't have to keep checking it to see what the reading is.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Poor quality. Lasted less than 2 months, August 1, 2011
By Bostonpizzaiolo (Boston)
I purchased this product in October '09. By December of '09, it was dead. Sure, it worked great when it did work. It was never dropped or banged around. Batteries replaced, still dead. As another reviewer mentioned, too inexpensive to go through the hassle of a return/replacement, so I did the consumer <sigh>, resigned to being duped by yet another poorly constructed (but sold as reliable) piece of junk that gave zero value back for the money spent. I settled instead for a solid, well-built, ANALOG gauge from Amazon. It's no longer available, but this: <...>
...is about the same (mine came with a rubber boot that's available separately for this one). I spent $40.00. Expensive? Yes. But I'll bet that, as long as I take reasonable care (which isn't much, as this thing is TOUGH), I will never have to buy another.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Easy and simple, June 20, 2011
By Mark Montgomery
The 90-degree angle on the head makes it extremely easy to fit the device onto hard-to-reach valve stems (I have a BMW 1200 GS motorcycle with spoked wheels). The synthesized voice is a little hard to hear with road noise in a typical gas station location but, all you have to do is read the display and, I can see the digits without reading glasses (I wear 1.75x readers). This is the simplest and easiest pressure gauge I have used.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for Twin Disc Brakes, March 15, 2011
By Theraphosa (Midwest USA)
This tire gauge is exactly what I'd hoped it would be.

I've got a Yamaha FJR, and it's always been a hassle to check air pressure in the tires.

If you've got a bike with twin discs, I don't need to tell you how difficult it can be to get the right angle, apply enough pressure to get a reading and then get the gauge back off without letting out enough air to change the reading you just took.

Because I tour long distances, I try to be meticulous about tire pressures and fluid levels at every stop. I need something compact that travels easily and that I can use at gas stations and campgrounds.

Because sometimes I'm a bit absent minded, I usually forget to check my tire pressure until I'm all dressed and ready to ride. Trying to do all that in riding gear makes it even more challenging.

I've tried the standard "stick" gauges, ones with hoses and ones with heads that swivel.

This beats them all.

I'd like it to last a "lifetime", but realistically I'll be happy if I get five years out of it. The ease of use, as well as the money I save in fuel and tire wear (and safety!) makes it worth it in my book.

It's accurate, handy, easy to read and fits in the pocket of my jacket or riding pants.

What more could you ask for?

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Audio is a plus, December 24, 2010
By Scootrr
This digital tire gauge is great, it gets into the tight area between the brake disk and the rim on my R1150R. As an added bonus, the audio readout of the tire pressure helps in low light conditions.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  satisfied customer, November 4, 2010
By JJ
I bought one two years ago for my motorcycle and am happy with it. I was checking pressures with my other dial gauges and found that there were 5+ psi differences. I ordered a second HI-Tec and was amazed to see that the new and old had the same pressure. Now I have lost one to my wife but feel more confident that these gauges are accurate.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Yes - this one TALKS, October 13, 2010
By dallas7 (Phoenix AZ USA)
It's unusual that no where in the product description is it mentioned this is the talking version of this pressure gauge. Yes, I know the speaker "grill" is shown in the pictures. So what?

Anyhow, my trusty old-school dial gauge suffered too many drops over the years and it was time to get a new one. My pal has had a ROADGEAR banging about in his bikes' saddle bags and under the seats for a long time and though it's seriously beat all to heck it still works great.

The CR2023 battery is easily replaceable. The voice is loud an clear. This is a nice product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Motorcycle Tire Gauge, April 18, 2010
By Damien Purigen (Washington DC)
This is a must have item to check your motorcycle tire pressure. It's so much better than a regular tire pressure gauge. It makes it easy to check your motorcycle's tire pressure because of the angle

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Accurate Pressure Readings - Great Gauge, December 16, 2009
By D. Staggs (Dallas TX USA)
Bought one of these in 2003 after reading a lot of positive reviews on various forums. I believe this gauge to be very accurate and the verbal pressure announcement is a nice bonus. I use it on my Goldwing and car.

Changing the battery is a snap and it uses a standard 2032 battery available everywhere.

Unfortunately I lost my first one and bought another in 2007 and recently changed the battery so I do not understand why reviewers complain about difficulty in changing the battery.

I plan on buying another as a stocking stuffer for a friend.

Recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Came broken out of the box, December 2, 2009

returned the item, got a different product. After reading about how its hit or miss quality and the difficulty in changing the battery I decided something else would be a wiser choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Hope it last!, February 15, 2009
By Lisa K. (Fayetteville, GA United States)
Bought 2 for the 'DAD's" Father's day gifts. They both love it. I'm only hoping they will not "die" as some reviewers have experienced. No problems hearing the pressure reading. Nice product! Want one for myself!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  The Roadgear Hi-Tec Digital Tire Gauge isn't, October 14, 2011
By AZMick
I thought this new Roadgear talking tire gauge would be a good replacement for the Roadgear all black digital gauge I've carried on all my bikes since 1996 or so,(I bought it from Roadgear at a rally in Oregon). It Isn't. The voice feature is nice and it works but the gauge is both inaccurate and hard to use. When I checked the pressure in a tire it was 45psi on 3 different gauges, this gauge read 43psi. It is always 2psi low. Sealing the tip on my 90 degree valve stems is almost impossible. The head of the tire gauge needs to be angled for the new 90 degree valve stems, more like a car tire gauge. Overall, it 'sorta' works but I expected more.
The return process with Amazon is truly amazing. Easy, fast and efficient. I have never before returned anything to Amazon and this experience reinforces my shopping here.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  It's Alright, September 29, 2011
By Chelsey C Drake
The product works well for the purpose I use it for. I needed a 90 degree angle tire gauge for my motorcycle, and it fits in there well. The entire gauge is plastic, which I wish it had some metal to make it more durable, but consider the price, I suppose. The screen locked out after a couple uses and it wasn't able to read pressure, but I took out the battery and put it back in, and the gauge seems to be working again. The gauge talks- it tells you the pressure out loud; there is no option to change the volume level or mute it. This can be good or annoying, depending on your point of view. I like that the battery is replaceable, which other tire gauges similar to this one do not have that option, so once the battery dies on those, you have to buy a new gauge. At least with this one, you can just change the battery instead of having to buy a new gauge. Overall it works well, but I am still considering getting a different one that is metal for durablity purposes only.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Wish it were steel, March 29, 2012
By Penname
I've had mine for about 5+ years and have replaced the battery (common watch type) once. The talking feature allows you to bleed off a little air at a time without having to take it completely off the valve to read. But, since it is plastic I think it's just too worn inside; I'm now having too much trouble getting a good fit on the valve stem.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Poor performance, February 21, 2012
By zoe
Gauge has a very poor seal on stems of my motorcycle tires. In my experience, it reads 0 psi 3 out of every 4 or so tries. When I do manage to get a reading, and repeat, about half the time it reads ± 5 psi. All this results in a significant loss of tire pressure. I'm using this in cold weather (~35 deg F) and notice others have had a similar problem. Sending back to Amazon using their excellent return service.
