|
The perfect accessory for cycling enthusiasts, the Polar CS Series cadence sensor lets you monitor your pedal cadence while on the road. Then, once you've completed your workout, you can download your cadence graph to one of Polar's CS Series cycling computers for further analysis. The data, which includes heart rate and speed graphs, helps you make the most of your high-spin workouts. The cadence sensor comes with a magnet, rubber mount, and Polar tape and is backed by a two-year warranty. Note that the sensor is compatible only with CS Series cycling computers, such as the CS100, CS200, or CS300. Owners of S Series computers will need to purchase a different sensor. What's in the Box? CS Series sensor, magnet, rubber mount, Polar tape, user's manual About Polar The first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor was invented by Polar back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is being used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Polar is the leading brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide and the company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.

Works fine, December 3, 2007
By DSE (Houston, Texas USA)

Mounts easily and works well, though it must be mounted on the down tube for the signal to be picked up. I'd prefer to mount it further back on the chain stay so it is less visable, but the signal can't be picked up.

Exactly at advertised, March 4, 2009

I added this to my Polar CS300 and the cadence function works fine. Having the bike computer and the heart rate monitor in one unit is much more efficient. Adding the cadence should improve my riding efficiency when I get back on the bike regularly. Great price and fulfillment from Amazon.

It's good to go for training with a "Tachometer", May 7, 2009

Easy to install and godd instant response. It's good to add another variable in my training controll, it helps to save some energy for the moments that will be needed.
the only thing I didn't ,liked it's that take a little to much time to re start the reading when you stop to pedalling, but for all the rest it's fine.

Works great - easy to install, works as advertised, communicates cadence to the installed HRM. A little rain didn't stop it...

Keeping cadence with Polar is easy, September 8, 2011

It doesn't get any easier, you just get faster! The Polar cadence is small and lightweight and easy to install so I put one on both my road and track bikes.

If you have a carbon frame don't waste your time!, July 30, 2011
By Mad Maxx (Cincinnati, Oh)

I have a 56cm Cervelo RS carbon frame. The only way I can get the receiver to pick up the signal from this sensor is to hold the receiver at my water bottle. Not the most helpful way to ride your bike. I tried 2 of these thinking the sensor internal battery was dead. But to no luck. Both sensors would not send a single further than half the documented distance. I have a wireless Garmin Forerunner and cadence sensor on a different carbon frame and it works just fine. Don't waste your time or money on the Polar! What more is there to say?

Works well, July 3, 2011
By flivver_99 (Warrensburg, MO United States)

I've been using this for at least a few hundred miles and have not had any complaints. The only minor issue is that there is a slight delay in it picking up changes in cadence, only a few rounds. I do not see this as a fault of the meter though as any sensor will need a few rounds to determine the speed.

It senses cadence, June 30, 2011
By Ronald Penton (Seattle, WA United States)

I bought this because I was interested in training my body to maintain a higher cadence than I was used to. I paired it up with the CS300 heart monitor/cyclocomputer.
The signal is strong, and reliably reports my cadence. Here's what stuck out to me:
1) The CS300 doesn't pick up your cadence right away from being idle. I'd say it takes about 7-10 seconds before it starts showing your cadence. Probably not the cadence sensors fault though; I'm pretty sure it's sending the signal, it's just the CS300 display unit probably does a "sampling over time" method and waits a while until the next time period is over. 0 stars off
2) The sensor unit can be easily dislodged from its position, thus un-aligning it from the magnet. When this happens it will no longer report cadence information to the display unit. This could probably be alleviated if I had used a pair of 3rd hand wire tighteners to really clinch the zip-ties down sturdy onto the bike frame, but alas I do not own a pair of 3rd hand wire tighteners, and I doubt the average person does either. Tightening the zip ties by hand does not tighten them enough to keep the sensor from moving around if you accidentally kick it. Minus one point for this.
3) The unit came with extra zip ties, and an extra large amount of tape for the magnet. These will allow you to mount the unit up to 3 times if you need to remove it for any reason. I'm pretty impressed with this because most products don't think that far in advance, and it shows that Polar is indeed interested in your product experience post-purchase. Adding one point back for this attention to detail.

Not for data driven athlete, March 7, 2011
By Heckler

Monitor has so far performed adequately. Getting any data to your computer is another story. Worked and worked and read all the blogs associated with problems and finally bought an external microphone. It was still hit or miss and had to join an online Polar workout page. Once I did get it to work, not really any useable data. I wanted to see heart rate over time so I could monitor how well I was staying within zones during intervals etc...IT WILL NOT DO THAT. It will only give you basic info, not time and HR. Unless, it does and I have yet to figure it out. Given how many tries it took just to get anything onto my computer I would not use it now anyway.

Battery replacement, March 20, 2012
By Electrical Engineer
|
|
The battery is officially (nor easily) replaceable by the user. This makes this product unacceptable to me. The computer head unit (CS200) does not indicate when the battery on the sensor unit is low.
