5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great kayak accessory!, July 14, 2008
By ¿
I purchased 2 of these for my kayaks. It fit better on my "Perception Avatar" than the "Perception Shadow Sealion". It would not sit upright on the "Shadow" because the rim of the cockpit was a different configuration. It faced forwards. This did not prevent it from working, but the paddle did sit forwards instead of on top.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you cannot use these clips if you use a spray skirt. You have to choose one or the other.

Having said all that, it's still a good accessory to have while kayaking. It does what it claims. Its easy to install. It only takes an instant to attach the paddle, so that both hands can be freed up to do something else.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Finally, A Place For My Paddle!, October 28, 2008
By Fastball (Oklahoma)
I paddle a 10' Perception river runner, and always need to find somewhere to put my paddle so I can do some task. And...I really despise having to drill holes in a vessel that needs to be water tight, so when I saw this little gem, I knew I had to give it a try. What an awesome gadget! Clips on quickly, even with the spray skirt on, so I can take photos or get something out of my dry bag. (Usually a snack.)

I thought the price was very reasonable considering the convenience this baby adds. It's pretty darn sturdy too, for plastic. If you kayak very much, you have to get one of these Yak Clips. They are too cool for school!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Quick paddle clip for your kayak, no drilling, January 7, 2008
By Dianne (Oklahoma)
This Yak Clip is a handy way to instantly add a paddle holder onto any kayak...even a rental. This is very handy for kayak photography, where you need to quickly set down your paddle and pick up your camera.

Since it doesn't use rivets or glue... you can snap it on or off of a kayak instantly and carry it home in your pocket. A very cheap, simple and handy item for any kayaker.

Also, I spoke to the vendor on an issue with another product. These folks provide excellent, personal and effective customer service!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  excessive charges, April 27, 2008
By A. Pagnotto
I have not yet used this product, so I cannot rate it's performance. I would like to comment on the price and shipping and handling charges. It sells for $9.95. It's made of plastic and weighs approx. 1 oz. $9.95 seems high but if it works, then it's worth it. Shipping and handling is $4.15. It was shipped 1st class mail, for $1.35. I would not make this purchase again. I feel that $2.80 for handling is excessive.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Yakkety-Yak, It's a Paddle Rack!, November 26, 2010
By M. Allen Greenbaum (California)
This is an effective paddle holder for those who use sit-in kayaks. It's not only the best product for the money, but it's better than paddle ropes costing 3-4 times as much.

It's ingenious in its simplicity: Simply spread the two ends of the circular YakClip around the edge of they kayak cockpit (i.e., the oval-shaped opening in which you sit) and it forms a clamp around the cockpit lip. Once in place, you can push your paddle--without much effort--into the slightly protruding C - shaped holder. (It also has extra (smaller) clamps for things like fishing poles.)

There's enough pressure to keep the paddle in place (unless you knock it off accidentally with a direct hit from your elbow or something). For this reason, and especially because you'll hurt your arm if you brush against the product while paddling, I recommend setting the YakClip either forward or in back of where your arms move while paddling. (Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that ou don't want to scrape your arm against the top! I suppose the device could be covered in rubber or something, but that would add to the cost, and the solution is very simple.)

Other products often involve a rope tied around the paddle and then to the kayak. A common complaint is that despite the hook and loop attachment (also known as "Velcro"), the rope eventually moves and gets in the way of paddling. If you're an inventor type, you might want to find a way to attach something buoyant around your paddle.

You might need to park your paddle while pausing to snap a picture, getting water, a snack, or anything else from a dry sack or other container, when you want to just lay back and enjoy a calm lake, or--ack!--in the event you need to pump water and want to make sure your paddle is secure.

As I don't do sea-kayaking in rough water, I regretfully cannot tell you how well the YakClip holds under these conditions. (Perhaps that information is in one of the other reviews.) However, it should function well in typical lake, protected bay, estuary, slough, and other protected waterways. Delivery was relatively quick and the YakClip was well-packaged.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good idea...need two per paddle, October 13, 2009
By kayaker (MI USA)
Good solution for kayaks not having side mount paddle holders. I bought two holders, one of each of my kayaks, but found that I really need two per kayak.
One holder would suffice for holding a paddle out of the way while you are in it, but two are needed to hold securely while you are getting in or out of the cockpit.
I like the fact that they can be moved around the lip to get it out of the way of paddling, but feel more secure if it is removed entirely.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Clipped on Kayak fine, but doesn't hold my paddle, June 27, 2011
By CLPhoto
I put this on my boat today since I was going to go out kayaking. I was all excited. Well, it doesn't fit my paddle! I have a carbon fiber paddle and the shaft is too small for the clip...so it's pretty useless for me. No use sending it back, since I'd have to pay shipping which is probably just as much as the clip. Hopefully I'll get a paddle that fits it when my husband gets a kayak.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It works!, September 22, 2010
By clearwater rich
I had ordered a sit-on-top kayak, so I wasn't sure from the pictures whether this product would work for me, as it appears to be for a sit-in kayak. There is no place to clip it onto my kayak without drilling a hole, so I tried clipping it onto my seat strap. Surprise, surprise, it works beautifully. I clip the paddle in, and it hangs just to the side of the top of the kayak; out of the way and secure, and right there when you need it. My kayak is aEmotion Spitfire Kayak, so you can see the seat attachment straps.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great except if bakes in sun the paddle will slip out., March 21, 2011
By purgatory
This clip works great in cold weather or if you are sure to not let it bake in the sun but my paddle slips out of it pretty easily if the clip has been sitting in the sun. I am going to try getting a second one and see if that works because the paddle only slips if it tilts which it will almost always do.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Simple & it works., June 15, 2010
By D. Garrison (Maryland)
This is as simple as it gets to hold your paddle without having to drill any holes for a bungee cord paddle holder. The accessory clip is the best part for me as I have my Camelbak hydration bladder bungeed to my stern & use the accessory clip to hold my drinking tube neatly out of the way, it fits perfectly. I like that I can move the clip around as needed. Simple & it works!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  not as durable as I need, August 30, 2011

4.0 out of 5 stars.  It works.. Pretty much..., August 26, 2011
By Scifiguy99 (California)

I use one of these on my Inuit 12.5 and it mounts to the front lip of the cockpit fairly well. I have a 230cm AquaBound Manta Ray Carbon paddle and it holds it just OK, not great but all I needed it for was just to have a quick place to hold the paddle briefly not as a super secure mount so it will work for me although I certainly wouldn't want to risk an expensive paddle in it or count on this if I needed a really secure mount.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Don't press down on the clips..., August 8, 2011
By Zebra44
The clips work just fine, but the quality is not too good. I used two of them on my Old Town Dirigo. I have to really open them up to get them on my boat, so after repeated use, I'm betting you will end up having to buy replacements.

I forgot I had them on the boat and pressed down on the paddle while it was in the Yak clips and one of the clips broke pretty easily.

Edit: 08/16/2011
The seller sent a replacement for the broken clip.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Won't Last, August 7, 2011
By Jank
I bought one of these and used it the first trip out. My thoughts at the time were its OK but should have spent the extra couple bucks to get a permanent mount. The paddle kept coming lose and falling out. I added a different type to my kayak and gave this one to my brother since it was his first time out on a new kayak and he didn't have anything else. It broke within two hours so this had a total of about 8 hours use before it broke. Not only that it was mediocre at best before it broke. Don't be afraid to drill holes in your kayak to put on products that are worth your time and effort. I guess if you are using someone elses kayak and/or don't want ot put a hole in your yak for the other mounts you may not have alot of choices otherwise don't waste your money.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  It holds but it is flimsy, August 5, 2011
By BOGY. (CT)
This will hold your paddle but it is flimsy. Some say to use two but I don't really want two clips on my kayak. They clip to the side of the opening and you can clip your paddle to it. Simple design for the price. I would still suggest a paddle lanyard/tie just to be safe. I have a fishing kayak so I don't have any harsh waters but if it were rough they might unclip with the motion.

By BC's Rule! (PA)
Can't beat the price, very handy to have...stops me from dropping paddle in water everytime I put it down.....have had issue w/placement, it won't fit the front lip of my Old Town Diago 106, so have to put it on side, which can be annoying at times...but overall, nice item.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Not for fast water, July 23, 2011
By C.H.
The clip itself stays very secure to the kayak. But the paddle does not stay all that secure to the clip. This product is good for entering the kayak or sitting back in calm water. If there is any kind of kayak tilt at all, the paddle leans and the weight makes it come out of the clip. I found this out when exiting. A solution might be to buy 2 and secure them on the side.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Not a good buy for Dagger Axis, July 7, 2011
By NathanBarnattFan
This clip would be nice for me if it worked on my Dagger Axis, but it doesn't. It fits too loosely on the combing. No matter where I put it, one of my paddle blades always ends up in the water, causing my kayak to turn. It works a lot better just to put my paddle in the water on a Harmony leash.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Hold It Right Now!!, June 19, 2011
By Carey Larabee
This product is great & I can't say enough about it's usefulness. I put a lot of supplies in my kayak - food & water for me and my dog, rain jacket in case it gets cool, camera, as well as a bath mat for my large 36 pound Sheltie(to keep her from sliding around) & the dog. It was a huge pain before, trying to get in the kayak either with paddle in hand while trying to shove off, before the dog tried to jump back out, or with the paddle in the boat with the dog in there, with me trying to get in - well you can just picture it, I'm sure!!!! I put it on the middle of one side & get in on the other side. With the paddle out of the way it's a snap. Just takes a few seconds to get it positioned in the right place on the paddle to keep the paddle level.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  paddle clip, May 9, 2011
By Mr.Finn
This paddle clip is good for holding your paddle while getting in or out of your kayak. The only problem is my paddle has a tendency to jump out of the clip every once in a while - so I have to have the paddle leash on at all times. This is a good little helper though.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  nice and clever item, April 22, 2011
By Moadeb
Just save yourself the trouble and order 2 of these. I baught a fishing kayak with out a paddle holder and found that if i want to put the paddle by my side rather than across the front of the boat I needed 2 of these. One will work for a pintch but one side of the padle will ussually dipp into the water and cause you to veer off course. They can also double as rod holders with the smaller secondary clips to each side of the paddle clip, which can be handy when your psddling though brush to get to a spot and the poles in the rear rod holders keep snagging in the branches. I have only used them for about a month, but they seem to be holding up nicely to the padddle being pulled in and out.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Did not work as advertised, August 30, 2010
By Mike Peeb (New Jersey)
First I would like to say that the shipping on this product was very fast and not very expensive. The clip is of good quility it is made of strong yet pliable plastic and the clip holds tight, but not so tight you can't get your paddle out. The problem for me was that it did not clip to my Old Town Loon 100 very well at all. It was very loose and I worried the clip and the paddle would fall off. I decided it was useless as is so I cut away the paddle clip, drilled to small holse, and bolted it to the side of my kayak, works great now. If you aren't afraid to customize it if it doesn't fit on your kayak then it's a good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  YakClip Good/Bad, May 3, 2010
By Doug B.
Having four kayaks, used by a variety of ages including young children, it was important to find something that could be used to secure a number of items (fishing gear as well as paddles). These clips work great to keep things secured and available. They do not fit all kayaks quite as nicely but they still serve their intended function.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Like a third hand..., February 28, 2010
By Kiyakker (Southern California)
These fit perfectly on both of our kayaks. One of them is fiberglass and one is rotomolded. The clip can be placed anywhere on the cockpit coaming and the clip holds the paddle firmly. It has always been difficult to eat, drink, or take a photo while trying to keep the paddle in our laps. This will solve that problem! Also, the cockpit cover fit right over it beautifully. Well worth the price.

By The Brickster (Barrington, RI)
I bought these for the kayak for fishing and to hold the paddles. They snap on easily and are portable which is nice. I have two kayaks and when I use the other I can pop it off and use it on the other boat. You dont have to drill holes in the boat which is big plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  yakclip, September 12, 2009
By Nancy LaBombard
These work very well with my set up (the kind of paddle and kayak I have). I can see how they wouldn't work for every kayak. I don't use it a lot; the way the paddle has to snap into place I will be amazed if it last a long time. BUT we'll see.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Yak Clip, June 28, 2009
By Jules Ruerat III (Waterford Michigan)
The yak clips are made of strong plastic. The clip is used for clipping my kayak paddle to the side of my kayak. I used the elastic cords on top of my kayak to hold my paddle, and found that by doing this I was scratching the top of my kayak. Using the yak clip on my cockpit holds my paddle secure and is easy to put on and take off. Great product.
Thanks, JR III

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Not Happy with Yak Clip, August 13, 2011
By robertson2900
The YakClip broke the first time I used it. What else can I say? I would not recommend this item to anyone. In retrospect the cost was excessive given what I received: a 25 cent piece of plastic that weighed about 3 ounces. Color me unhappy :(

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Broke during the first use, July 24, 2011
By River Kayaker (Waukesha, WI USA)
Clipped it to my Wilderness Systems Tsunami 140 and it didn't fit very well. When I placed my paddle in the clip, the weight of the paddle caused it to lean to one side. When I was putting my boat away for the day, I realized a piece of the clip had snapped off. Too bad I bought one for my brother, too.

I bought a YakClip for my boyfriend, but something happened with the mail! I contacted the merchant and she promptly re-shipped it. The clip is very good to keep the paddle on the boat during idle kayaking time. What I am especially enthusiastic about is the great customer service from the seller. Thanks so much!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  This would be great if ir didn't interfere with my paddle skirt, July 17, 2010
By N8andM (Minneapolis, MN United States)
I bought this at the same time as my half paddle skirt and really didn't put too much thought into it. Well, they don't really work together. Also if you are practicing wet exits or rescue techniques, it could be a potential hazard- either injuring you or hindering your wet exit. It could snag your PFD or your clothing. So now I think I will return it or re-sell it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  You need two of these!, June 17, 2011
By Petrinapearls
I really like these clips for my Pungo 100. I bought two, thinking that I would have one on each side of the kayak. I discovered quickly that one was not sufficient to hold the paddle safely. I knocked the paddle out a couple of times just by a slight bump with my elbow (thank goodness for the paddle leash) but when I moved the second one to the same side, it worked really well. The two clips held the paddle firmly, spaced out equidistant from the center. Also, they move easily by slipping along the gunnels out of my way, which is an advantage when I am fishing. Another handy feature is the smaller clip on these, which works well to hold my fishing rod in place if needed. So, do yourself a favor and buy two!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  paddle clip, November 26, 2010
By taperjay (MA)
Overall a good product. It should fit on just about any kayak and may fit on a canoe also, not sure about that. While one clip will work somewhat as shown in the pic, I recommend 2 for each paddle. With only one clip, your paddle is sure to 'helicopter' or pivot on the clip, and if an end of the paddle ends up in some rougher water the paddle could get pulled. Two clips keeps the paddle very secure as you float to take a photo, adjust other gear, or just to keep your paddle out of the way as you're docked somewhere. Good product.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Fits unless you wear a skirt, December 29, 2011
By HikeVA (Virginia)
Like other reviewers, you really need two of these to secure a paddle to your boat. And I totally forgot that I usually wear a skirt while paddling so there is no place for the paddle clip. The clips are pretty worthless for my use. I plan to drill holes and make a bungee system, which I've seen work far better than these clips, and probably cheaper too, except for the labor.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Choose a better holder, December 4, 2011
By kayaker
The device holds your paddle. However, it won't hold it firmly, and it is easily knocked loose. In addition, you can't use it very well if you have a spray skirt in use. I used it for maybe four or five outings before it snapped in half, rendering it useless. The very nature of the design is unstable, but for ten bucks, it's really a waste of money. Spend a couple more dollars and get something that mounts to the deck!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  easy, quick fix, July 1, 2010
By duncbe
These are so easy to use, they simply clip onto the lip of the kayak. I use them not only for holding the paddles, but for clipping a stopwatch and other items onto as well. I like the way you can easily slide it around the lip to get it out of the way when you are paddling, but can bring it forward when you need it. Having 2 provides a little more stability when getting in and out of the kayak.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  EXCELLENT FISHING AID!, June 1, 2010
By WYBOOJER (BEARCATJER)
I recently bought a 10 foot sit in kayak to use on a lake i live on , primarily for fishing.I soon discovered i needed some way to stow the paddle while I was casting as I moved around the lake. The Yakclip fits the bill for what I need perfectly! I also added a paddle leash "just in case" but the yakclip is made of very strong plastic and so far has performed admirably. I do wonder how long it will take for the plastic to loosen up and not hold the paddle so well, but this is a first quality product and if/when it wears out i will promptly buy another! And...the price is right!.
