I Love my unicycle!, October 27, 2007
By Kathleen M. Bayus

I ordered this Avenir unicycle a few weeks ago and i just love it so far! It is a very reliable unicycle and is very sturdy. It rides great and handles well for hopping. I love the 2.5 inch wide tire with its big tread, giving it excellent traction. I reccomend this product to anyone who wants to have a great time!

Good uni, short seat post, July 3, 2009
By Kirk Rogers (Guinea)
|
|
Good unicycle overall, at least for kids. No instructions came for assembly, but it was really very easy to put together if you have the wrenches and minimal mechanical skills. Love the fat tire. Fun riding offroad. However, the seat post is way too short for me and my teen son, both about 5'11. So this is a good choice for kids and short people to learn on. Later we ordered a 24" Torker from ebay (at that time the price was better than Amazon). Torker unis are excellent quality for the price. And the 24" uni is a much better ride than this 20" "toy." If you already know how to ride, and aren't short, get a 24" Torker! And if you are tall, a 24" uni would be the best choice for learning on as well. It comes with a long seat post which can be cut off to desired length. Much better design!

Depends on how you want to use it, February 27, 2010

Mine was fine until I got good. Riding it is great; no complaints. WHen i started jumping down stuff, that is when it got messed up. I was jumping down a 1 foot drop and the wheel bent. Im a pretty big guy though. Good for flatland and tricks, but definately not trials, mountain, or street. Also, DO NOT use the stock pedals. Invest 15 bucks and get good eastern ones. BYEEEEEEE

READ BEFORE PURCHASING, April 27, 2011
By OneWheelJohnny

This was my first uni, and it's a great model to learn on, as well as to take occasional offroading trails, but after 4 months (One of which just to learn to ride the thing) I have: 3 holes in the saddle, Hub is twisted, Cranks bent, pedals are missing reflectors, one is cracked, and the pedals refuse to be coaxed from their place (I messed up a wrench trying to get them out) This is due to the abuse I put this little guy through trying out various Street and Trials stunts. The arms are about 170 degrees apart, not 180 after hopping down a few stair cases. I"m sure if I stuck to more 'standard' stuff it would have held up a lot better. IT IS GREAT TO LEARN ON, AND FOR BASIC RIDING/SMALL TRAILS, and deffinantly worth it for a 100, just in case you can't figure it out you didn't spend too much.
HOWEVER, IF YOU WANT TO GET INTO STREET/TRIALS I suggest a Nimbus X street or a Nimbus Trials, it's about 3 times more, but the quality is unbelievable, this guy is not built for the stress I put it through haha
IF YOU WANT A MUNICYCLE: GO for a 24" or a 26", probably Torker would be your best bet, Nimbus is really good as well
QUALITY MATTERS when it comes to these guys, they're not at all like bikes. If you get one, just keep in mind that you WILL HAVE TO REPLACE IT at some point in the near future (4 months for me), and this hobby will cost a bit, but if you go quality, you'll be set for several years.
Low Budget? This all you can affort? Get NIMBUS ULTIMATE WHEEL from UNICYCLE.COM, it's about the same price, a heck of a lot of fun, durable, and will keep you occupied until you get more money saved up

Great trick Unicycle...very sturdy, easy ride!, February 21, 2010
By Andrea Pederson (Fort Collins, CO)

It's awesome!
I received this as a gift from my mom for Christmas and it really is just AWESOME. I used to own a 20" Sun Flat Top Version 1 and it sucked with its hard, unforgiving seat, its impossibly tough to get out of the frame seat post, its frame that jabbed into my legs on jumps, its nuts and bolts that were impossible to re-screw, its weak, curved cranks that clicked every-so-often, its small, feeble pedals, its thin, frail tire, and its thin, puny rim. It is a very dependable unicycle and is very strong. The complaints about seat post height are normal because trials unicycles have short seats for tricks. Although, the seat thickness can chafe your legs easily and, yes, it does come with a handle, but according to the pic this is not so. Other reviews are rejoicing about the hairy tire but I say that, yes, having hair on it is a plus but this has a little too much for much comfort and the hair will come off on the part you hop on in about a week. The thickness is also awesome and the frame could've been colored better (perhaps blue) and designed better and tightly fitted to the hub but it works. I didn't like the black cranks and thought plain anti-rust silver cranks would've been better. On another note, the air tube could've been better positioned because it is right underneath the cranks. . I recommend this to anyone who is into unicycling but isn't ready to put down money for a $700 Kris Holm or even a $300 Nimbus.

Great Cycle and Great Deal!, January 29, 2009
By Houston Knight

I bought this for my 16-yr. old son's birthday a month ago now. He and I both couldn't be happier. The cycle is very well made, and I can't believe he's learned to ride it in just a couple of days. The big seat and big tire are very helpful, too (from what he tells me). This was a great buy, you will not be disappointed. Amazon did a good job regarding communication (ship date, delivery date, etc.) We did receive it when promised. Thanks, Amazon.

if you have a kid thats just learning. this would be a good unicycle. but for someone looking to upgrade from there old torker and get into tricks and drops, this unicycle isnt worth it. i bent the hub within my first 5 rides. and im 180 pounds. not doing anything serious. i had to replace the had and crank arms. also upgraded pedals. which was another 200 bucks. save your money. and buy a better unicycle. this one isnt worth it.

Great for jumps - Seat post too short, January 29, 2010
By RC_uni (Louisiana)
|
|
This is a great value, much more expensive on other websites. I was looking for a uni with a massive off-road capable tire and this is it!!! I am pretty good with a unicycle, (offroad and street tricks) but i dont have alot of money being in collage. The only serious problem i had with this unicycle was that after only a few jumps off of curbs and logs and such, the cranks started to bend the axle where the crank is attached and screwed into the unicycle. Now i am about 5'11-6' and about 175lbs, this shouldnt have happened... I have super-tightened the nuts for the cranks yet they keep coming off after a day of riding. The seat post that comes with it is also adnormaly short though i had a post from my old unicycle to replace it.
Otherwise, its of great value, just MAKE SURE WHEN YOU PUT IT TOGETHER OUT OF THE BOX, YOU HAMMER ON THE CRANKS AND TIGHTEN THEM AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!! or you will regret it.
Im loving it though i can jump about a third higher and twice as far/far down. Very fun!

This is a great product. Our son is 12 and never rode before. We weren't sure if this one would be too big and is isn't. Is is fine to learn on and now he rides around the neighborhood. Soon he will learn how to juggle while riding!

Good Value, September 5, 2009
By B. Odom (Austin, TX United States)
|
|
I believe that this uni is a good value. I am a thirty-something, 6'2", 220 lbs, and this was the uni that I learned on. Here are the pros:
* - cheap
* - relatively sturdy
* - fat wheel made for easier learning
Here are the cons:
* - it's not made for a tall person out of the box. I had to buy a separate 300-mm x 22.2-mm seat post from [...]
* - I can vouch for the other reviewer's comment that the crank arms tend to come loose and require frequent retightening. I worry that soon I'll have to replace them as the threads wear.
All in all, it's a cheap uni and a good value. And it would probably last longer if it's used by a youth instead of a big dude like me. ;-)

Worthwhile, June 19, 2009
By J. Labrum (GJ, CO)
|
|
I've had a month with mine. The unicycle is a good deal for the money. For the most part it is sturdy. I'm about 6' 1" and have no problem with it's size. The tire is nice. I learned to ride on it and have a lot of fun.
The problems are all in the pedals and crank arms. The plastic pedals have poor grip so I recommend getting replacements early on. Also the screws that connect the factory pedals to the crank arms are hardened steel while the crank arms are aluminum. I had a problem with the pedals frequently coming loose and from just screwing them in repeadedly the female threads on the crank arm were worn out very fast. I already have to buy a new set of crank arms. the steal pedal threads are still good though :/

great product, short seat post, December 31, 2009
By BG
|
|
good quality, nice flat fork tops, good tread, good tire width, easy assembly, good seat handle
cons: the seat height is too short for me and i am 511 or 6ft. heel to crotch 36 is too tall so im going to make a custom seat post extension
i bought a 20in, knowing it was small, because it is my first uni and the bike shop guys said 20 is best for tricks and i bought it for trials type stuff.
i knew it may be short and it is but an easy enough fix
aside from the seat post being short this thing is awesome (plus it has a sweet square black rim-mean)

unicycle capability, April 4, 2010
By Matthew D. Redmond (CA)

this uniycle is great. I got it as a chrismas prsent. If you have never put together a unicycle before just give it to a bike store and have them put it together. If not just make sure you have evrything right and tighten stuff as much a s you can. this unicycle is great for jumps because of the grip handle on the seat(the picture doesn't show this) and the big tire. good deal.

This is a great product for the price. However the seat post is much too short. I had to buy another seat post in order to use it. They should come with a longer and be cut to fit...

Avenir Unicycle good for kids and shorter folk, January 20, 2012
By Becky Reilly
|
|
This is a sturdy, MTB/Muni style unicycle. The fact that it has a 20" wheel makes it suitable for beginners and children. After learning how to ride, most adults would want a unicycle with a larger wheel. The construction is sturdy, considering the price. The cranks and pedals are not the best, but they work and will hold up for a while. The seat is decent.

Avenir Unicycle Review, December 30, 2011
By WMU
|
|
The unicycle did not come with any assembly instructions, although it was relatively simple. The unicycle comes with four bolts that mount the fork to the wheel's hub. The second time out, one of the bolts snapped. I went to the local hardware store and replaced all four with quality hardened bolts and lock nuts and for $5 we were back in business in no time. My son's only 85 pounds, so it's not like an adult was trying to ride it. Maybe I over tightened the bolt (not sure without instructions), maybe it was just a defective bolt, who knows. I still like the unicycle and am overall pleased with the purchase.
