small, cheap, easy, works, January 28, 2009

Obviously this little guy isn't intended to illuminate the road. The point of this light is to be seen by cars when you are driving on city streets and other well-lit areas. Snaps on and off easy, works great, easily fits in your pocket. Looks cool too.

Really bright!, February 19, 2009
By mike (tokyo)

This knog frog uses a really bright LED. I use the red LED for my rear and I can be seen even in day light! I have other lights with more LEDs and none are as bright as this one. It's easy to use and it's small so it's not bulky looking. Lasts a long time with 2 coin cell batteries. Great bike light.

Disappointed, December 7, 2009
By Brooklyn girl (Brooklyn, NY)

I bought two of these lights. They are very cute. The LED is bright. I have two problems with them. 1) The clip doesn't work well. I've tried to put it on various parts of my backpack and it fell off every time. I put it on the back of my helmet and it shifts to point downwards and it pulls my hair out. 2) Unless I take the batteries out, the light turns itself on runs the batteries dead.

cute little bugger, September 2, 2010
By College Student (Chicago, IL)

I just got mine in the mail for my new bike. Its very cute and it seems like it will do a great job increasing my visibility on the road. I especially like that it is easy to take on and off the bike- I can keep it in my backpack unless I'm using it which makes sure nobody will steal it while my bike is parked outside (especially overnight)

Great Lights, August 27, 2010
By natenineten

These lights are great for biking. I just moved to Chicago and don't feel right riding without lights on. I wanted something small and obtrusive and these lights do just the job. With both strobe and solid lights and they're easy to change during a ride. They fit great on my bars and seat post and are simple to put on and take off. Great buy.

Great Little Around Town Light, August 29, 2009
By Kevin Sweeney (San Luis Obispo, CA United States)

These are great little lights to add some visibility to your bike. Not going to light up a moonlit night or anything, so don't get it if that's what you want.

little BRIGHT light, August 21, 2009
By Rick A. Friesen
|
|
I just bought a 2-pack of these at my local bike shop. One has a red light and the other has a white light. There was a perfect spot right under my seat for this to wrap around. It's so bright I think it might be annoyingly bright for anyone behind me, but I guess that's the point right. Not sure if I'll put the white one on the front of just put that on the back of my wife's bike. These were $25 for the pair. Not cheap for as little as they are but easy to mount and perform their duty flawlessly.

It's Haunted..., October 26, 2010
By Rebecca Ross (Gilroy, CA)
|
|
Okay, so it's not exactly haunted, but my Knog Frog turns itself on quite frequently. It's highly irritating to go out into my garage and see that the light on my bike, which hasn't been touched all day, has suddenly turned itself on. Sometimes I come home from work and find the light blinking when I know it wasn't on in the morning when I left the house. I've had this light for only about a week and I've found that it's already come on by itself five or six times. I'm surprised there is any charge left in the batteries. Other than that, it's easy to install, comes in lots of cool colors, and is relatively inexpensive. However, because the battery will be dead when I might actually need to use it, I'm thinking about returning it.

I thought this was a nice light but...., August 20, 2011
By Timothy A Roaix
|
|
I thought this was a nice light, had it on my helmet for a few months although I only used it a few times. My girlfriend just bought a Sigma Micro-Lite that cost half as much and is twice as bright. We brought it into a dark room in the house and compared the beams. The Frog has a better mounting system (the sigma light has straps versus that rubber mount for the Frog), but if you want to be seen for the same amount of money... We just ordered a couple extra Micro Lites.
Incidentally, I am not a paid consultant or anything like that. I just read about folks who write reviews for products for money.
I have a Night Rider 600 lumen light for my primary night riding and really like that. The cost was a bit much ($145) but the darn thing lights the entire road up.
So, It looks for now like I'm using the Night Rider as the primary light source, the Sigma Micro-Lite on my helmet so I can annoy drivers and make them notice me, and a Cat-eye rear light on the end that has 10 LEDs and blinks all over creation.

cute but ineffective, April 1, 2011
By MiCoBa
|
|
I could not get the d@!*m thing to turn off and it would turn on easily if I hit a small bump in the rode which if course drained the battery. Then I had a very hard time finding that specific battery size to replace it. It's cute and very easy to take off an on but I paid way too much money for it. Will never ever trust this company again.

good idea, weak silicone, January 6, 2011
By S. Chen
|
|
I really liked this light because i could use it on any bike without having to install fixtures. However, the big problem for me was the silicone wasn't very durable. I left the light on my bike in the garage for about a month and when I came back to it, the silicone was torn. It seems like they should be able to make silicone that never tears. Now I have a light made by cateye that uses a similar concept but bungee cord instead of silicone.

Small and useful bike light, December 28, 2010
By igd
|
|
You should expect a very small and useful 1-LED bike light. With one LED it does not light a lot but enough to be seen from very far and light a bit the street. It is very small so you could carry it all times in your pockets with noticing it. I would strongly recommend this product but it may not be too useful if you want to ride in total darkness.

Small but powerful, December 10, 2010
By T. Sarpa (San Clemente, CA)

Great little light for visibility. Soft rubber strap makes it easy to take on and off and won't damage your $200 carbon seatpost. Multiple settings (on,blinking) are perfect and all you need. The single light is bright and provides good rear visibility and keeps the weight down for the fast rides. Well made and very water resistant (as tested on one rainy night).

No problems, July 31, 2010
By Cate (Gig Harbor, Washington, United States)

Have had just one of these but it works well-- no problems with fastening or light function that have been reported by others. I bought it to attach to our flexilead dog leash-- so we can be seen on night walks (and to help find poop for scooping!). Works fine for these purposes.

Do not trust these lights to be seen at night, March 12, 2010
By Peter (MA)
|
|
I bought two of these years ago along with the bullfrog light to use on my 17 mile commute to and form work. My commute varied, some days I'd leave my apartment at 5am and others I'd be home at 11pm. So I had to rely on my lights to get me home safely. These lights appear to be bright up close, but they are easily lost at a distance. They're "cute" and that's about it.

Arrived with dead batteries, January 21, 2010
By Mulling It Over
|
|
I ordered two of these lights. One arrived with dead batteries, and replacing the batteries will cost almost as much as buying a new light. It's such a cheap light that I'm not going to the trouble of returning it, but I won't buy them again and can't recommend them.

Defective Product, July 26, 2010
By JJB (NYC)
|

I have owned three of these lights over the past three years, and have had a problem with each one. After a week or two, the blinking mode disappears! It reappears every few months, usually after being on for a half hour or more, but it is nevertheless a horrible flaw in the design of the light. I have to wonder what their problem is. It can't be that difficult to program a light to blink, can it? This is such a basic electronic product that it's embarrassing that they can't make the 50% of the features work correctly. I'd hate to see what the company would do with, say, a telescope or a car. A recall and bankruptcy, to be sure.

Works Well, September 13, 2011
By Mike
|
|
This one works really well for a rear light, not too flashy but the LED light it emits is quite bright. I had to ziptie to it to where I wanted it on my bike to deflect potential thieves. If you're looking for something sleek, then this is it for you. A well made product indeed.

Overpriced, October 7, 2011
By A guy from Philly (Philadelphia, PA United States)
|
|
These are great for city riding where you just need to be seen, but I have had issues with the quality control on a few I've owned. These days, you can get knockoffs on ebay from China for $3 including shipping that are just as good. Bike lights in general are obscenely overpriced compared to the same leds in a flashlight.

Super design, bad circuitry (but see update!), April 15, 2012
By Jeff A. (Louisville, KY)
|
|
For the price and how ingeniously well the light performs, it's great. Amazing actually. But see Caveat below.
Aside - The picture is misleading. The light is made with a stretchy rubber loop that loops around your handlebar and hooks on the back of the light body. It must be under tension to hook and hold. The pic shows the loop bending under the light, but when the product comes out of the package, the loop would extend out straight and down towards your right in this pic.
CAVEAT - the circuitry is flawed and the light turns itself on. I came down once in the middle of the night to my kitchen and the thing was blinking. Whether I see it or not, it turns itself on and runs the batteries down. Too often. The batteries are pricy, and this is a fundamental flaw.
Hey Knog - up the price a buck or so and get rock solid circuitry. Then this product is unbeatable.
That said, I finally gave up on my first purchase (approx. 7/10) and have purchased another (11/2011) in hopes that Knog has corrected the error.
Am sending the 7/2010 purchase back to Knog. We need them to get it together. :-)
Have just started using the 11/11 purchase. Will post results. This message from 4/2012.
Update May 9, 2012 -- Thank you Knog for sending me a new Frog Strobe all the way from Australia!! They told me they had some bad batches back in 2010. They stood behind their product, too.
The new one I purchased recently seems to be working well, also.
So overall great product!
