Universal & Highly Customizeable Bottle Mount/Cage, June 10, 2009
By Gadget Lover (New York, NY)
This waterbottle mount can be used horizontally (as shown in the product picture) on your handlebars, for instance, or used vertically on your seatpost or your frame, etc. It has a small metric hex/allen screw that can be used to change the orientation of the mount. Other than switching orientation, there are no tools needed to mount this waterbottle cage!
The mount comes with ZERO instructions, which isn't cool, but using it is very straightforward and pretty much common sense.
It comes with a tiny black rubber shim that you place between the clamp (touching the bike) and the frame/post of the bike. This keeps the mount from slipping and sliding around.
The mount is bit heavier than it needs to be but it's due to the clamp and quick-release. The actual cage portion of this product is quite light.
The actual waterbottle cage can be unscrewed from the clamp and used, standalone on bikes that already have braze-ons for waterbottle cages.
On the negative side, if you have a skinny waterbottle it can easily fall from the cage. Also, you have to be careful of the angle at which it sits because the waterbottle sitting in the cage can be knocked loose due to hard road vibration or a really hard bump so mounting it underneath your bike, hanging down, isn't advised.
This is a great solution for anyone that doesn't have braze-ons for waterbottles on their bike frame or someone who simply wants to carry extra waterbottles and have them placed anywhere on their bike.

This Bottle Cage works just as it should. It holds securely and the bottle can be retrieved easily. The camlock on the mount will fit and hold on other than round tubes as well (i.e. it fits perfectly on the triangular grab bar on my tractor). I just ordered two more of them. 'Nuf said!!!

Watch Your Paint, June 25, 2009
By Just Call Me Dad (Youngstown Ohio)
Wanted something easy to use and removable. It is easy but when you remove it, you will see it has scratched the paint where you installed it. The makers need to put some sort of coating on the inside to keep this from happening. If I had it to do all over again I would still buy it but take a bit of dip coating and paint it on the inside of the clamping area. This will keep it from attempting to rotate and keep it from scratching the surface you are clamping it to. The company who made this should have taken this into consideration before selling them.

Does not do the job, August 23, 2010
By D. Miller
This was purchased in an attempt to add a water cage mount on a woman's style frame. It looks interesting but after spending a few minutes with it the bad engineering/cheapness of product is readily apparent. The unit is quite large/somewhat heavy/ and very unwieldy. There is a single hard plastic clamp. I can get the clamp to seat on the aluminum tube. The trouble is that the hard plastic does not naturally hold under pressure to the aluminum. How about two clamps, metal instead of plastic (reduces the unwieldiness) and rubber or some softer compound to sit tight on the frame. After checking this product I could tell it would be nothing but frustration and also immediately ended up scraping off a nice paint job that had lasted for years prior to this product.

OK with tweaking, December 1, 2010
By D. Donelson
I ordered this with high hopes for the quick release function but was soon let down. The jaws don't open wide enough to get over the handlebar (I have standard 25.4mm bars) unless you screw out the quick release clamp almost all the way. You then need to screw in the mechanism but the tab is pretty small and hard to get any leverage with just your fingertips to really snug it up tight before you close/lock the tab. The result was a grip that was not tight enough to hold a full water bottle steady without the whole cage rotating downward - most annoying. I took it off since it was more trouble than it was worth. I was going to sell it on Ebay then had a brainstorm. I happened to have some cushy foam double-sided Scotch tape in my desk so I cut off a strip of that and wrapped it around the handlebar where I was going to put the clamp. I then used an adjustable crescent wrench to get leverage on the quick release tab so I could snug it up really tight. THEN once the tab was closed and locked everything held firm and I can ride without the bottle slippage. This of course defeats the quick-release aspect of it but that's ok since I like having the water bottle right at my fingertips and the cage holds a Klean Kanteen 27 oz. bottle firmly without bouncing or slipping. If I had to to it over again I probably would have ordered the Avenir clamp-on bottle cage instead but this has worked out ok after my tweaking. Useless as a true quick-release due to the issues described but ok as a semi-permanent mount cage after the tweaking. 3 stars, middle of the road.

Terrible, don't buy!, July 31, 2009
By D. Alvarez
No instructions, difficult to install. When I figured out how to clip it on, a flaw in the design prevented me from being able to tighten the screw hard enough to actually clip it onto the bike. Thankfully, because of this defect, Amazon returned it. Don't waste your time, instead get the Bell Adjustable Mounting Bottle holder, doesn't require frame installation and costs $7 @ Walmart. The Bell one is a bit of a pain to install, but it did have clear instructions, and once on the bike, it holds prefectly and secure.

Works Perfectly, June 17, 2011
By Shaun Battick (Jamaica)
I bought this product since my vintage Raleigh road bike did not have any pre-drilled holes. I was able to install in about 3 minutes. It is sturdy and I have not observed any slippage. A perfect fit for my insulated bottle.
Four stars because it did not come with any instructions. Included in the package was a small patch(I assumed it should be placed between the 'jaws' that attach to the bike for a tighter grip). Also, the small allen key required to change the orientation from horizontal to vertical was not included in the package.
Highly recommended!

Pros: Adjustable, High quality plastic, Horizontally or vertically, and you can use it as a normal water bottle cage (without using the clamp it came with)
Cons: Heavy (half a pound)

Decent Product for the Price, May 20, 2009
By Simon
The one complaint I had was:
-it doesn't really clamp to the bike well...it'll move up and down. some rubber on the inside of the clamp would probably help--I used some electrical tape on the bike where the clamp locked in to increase the grip.
Other than that, it's been working pretty well.

Plastic Bottle Cage, August 20, 2011
By quilter2010
My bike is an older model that does not fit most water bottle holders. I was happy with this one because it has the attachment that will work with my bike. Unfortunately I did loose my water bottle twice on my first bike ride. I had to find a different spot on my bike for this watter bottle cage. It works okay. I am happy to have water. The one thing I didn't like about it is that I can't adjust the cage to work at a different angle with my bike. It looks like that part is adjustable but I can't figure it out and I don't want to force it and break it.

Works well - but, be careful!, August 17, 2011
By Chris (Charleston, SC)
Works well and can be mounted most anywhere on your bike. BUT, be sure to use the rubber piece that is included with it to protect your paint from the screw that mounts it to the bike! It removed the paint on my NEW Townie - down to the aluminum. The rubber needs to be placed were it will protect your frame - BEFORE tightening or rotating the mount.

M -wave bike bottle care, June 29, 2011
By wetseal

The cage feels and looks good, but it doesn't stop moving around. I had to do a bit of modification to get it to hold on to the bike without movements.( I taped some velcro or black friction tape where the cage clamps to the bike) so if you dont mind being a little creative feel free to purchase it, if not you may want to purchase something else

very sturdy, May 16, 2011
By hongsui x chen
It is easy to assemble and stays on pretty sturdy on the handlebar of my Bike. It did not come with instructions but almost self explanatory. It did come with this little rubber/Foam piece that at first I did not know what it was but then I realized that it is to be put in the inside of the clamp to help it keep the grip. It is very important to use that rubber piece. It is Good for regular size water bottles and maybe a regular size vitamin water. Nothing wider because the plastic arms are not flexible.

Great piece of gear, December 14, 2010
By S. Moon
My son's bike doesn't have room for a standard bottle cage. This one clamps to his handlebars and works wonderfully. It's light, unobtrusive, and when he gets a bike that can take a normal bottle cage, the clamp is removable so he can keep this one.
I'd give this product 6 stars if I could.

Great system, October 12, 2010
By Carl Powell

I looked at many bottle holders before choosing this one. This bottle holder is great as it works well and can be used on the handlebars or on the frame. The clip turns 90 degrees and is very strong. I tried a few bottles and the standard size bottles fit.

Works as described, July 30, 2010
By R. Krause (Missouri)
It doesn't come with instructions but it's very easy to figure out that to change the mount from horizontal to vertical you just loosen the allen head screw and turn the clamp. The grips tighten down tightly enough on my Trek 7300 frame and stays in place with a large water bottle in it. I have not had the experience of some of the negative reviews. This seems like a decent alternative to brazons to me.

OK, but not the best, June 17, 2010
By J. Young (Phila, PA)
A modification to the product would make it near perfect. If they added the rubber to the clamp vice instead of the little piece that comes w/holder, life would be so much easier. That little piece sent w/the holder is so easy to loose! Bought other clamp bike mount items & whole clamp devise had rubber installed into clamp. Or, at least give a bigger piece of rubber for the clamp. I have Classic Folding bikes & need to remove the water bottle holder to fold the bike up. Bought for price, should have purchased the other model & saved the headaches!

Cage is good, clip is not, July 28, 2010
By C. Mathis (Pittsburgh, PA)
The cage itself is light weight and holds a majority of bottles just fine. The clip, if you don't have braze-on screw holes on your frame, is heavy, bulky, and isn't as adjustable as I'd like. You can get a cheaper cage without the clip that is just as good.

NO GOOD!, April 11, 2009
By M. Ljongquist (Portsmouth, VA USA)
This water bottle cage was pretty easy to install, but it came with no instructions. There was a tiny baggy stapled to the package that had a little rectangular piece of rubber in it (about 1/2 inch by 1 inch and a couple millimeters thick), but there was no indication of what to do with it. I didn't use the rubber thing, and put the cage on my handle bars. After I went over a few bumps in my mountain bike my FAVORITE water bottle fell out and broke because the cage had turned upside down. No matter how tight I made the clamp it would still spin around and dump out the bottle. If you can figure out what to do with the rubber thing, you may have better luck than me, but I don't know if that will make any difference. My advice is to steer clear.

My son got a new bike, but it didn't have anywhere to attach a water bottle. This product is perfect! Very easy to use, orients to whatever position you need to fit whereever you want to put it. Adjusts easily, easy on and off. Seems durable and stable when attached. I recommend this product, great price too!

I bought this item for my wife and the back of my Goldwing. We have put 2000 miles on this thing, and it has held up well. It works great, holds drinks solidly at 70 miles per hour. Much more reasonably priced that the cup holders at the Honda Shop or the Wingstuff Website....

Easy to mount, easy to use, January 15, 2012
By Charles C. Hardin
This is the simplest and best product in its class I've used. Most mounts of this kind involve some impossibly tricky alignment of fragile components (for example, the amusingly bad Minoura BH-95X). With this mount, all I needed to do was to clamp it onto my bike frame. It has held up well under daily use.
I subtract one star because the clamp should have its rubber padding built in, not supplied as a separate tiny square of rubber that has to be inserted between the clamp and the frame just before tightening. However, compared to anything else of its kind, it's easy to install and it holds fast. What else does it need to do?

This accommodates larger bottles well, November 15, 2011
By madcow

I previously tried the Topeak Modula 2, expecting it to fit the type of drinking bottle my wife wanted to use for her bike. However, the cage did not expand enough to fit the bottle. I returned it and came across this cage. I got it yesterday and put it to the test. It passed. The plactic arms keep the bottle snug, but they are still flexible enough for an easy bottle entry/exit.

Okay cage mount, October 10, 2011
By Chance favors the prepared mind. (Staten Island, NY)
This mount attaches easily to the top post of my Trek. However, it won't mount in some other places, like the front fork. Matching the clamp to the post you are using will provide optimum fit. The cage is a bit large for my bottles so i have to secure them with a velcro strap. I haven't really stressed the mount with a rough ride, but it seems adequate for regular use.

i bought this for my Roam 1 and it works fine. Its a little more bulky then I thought it would be but it works all the same. I wrapped electrical tape around the area where the clamp connects to the bike so it wouldn't scratch the paint. It will scratch your paint so I would highly recommend doing this.

Okay, But Has Not-Insignificant Flaw, April 18, 2012
By tommyleeyyz
I bought a couple for my kids' youth size bikes, which does not allow for braze-on water-bottle cages. The cages were doing their job, but just recently, the arms that hold the water bottle broke on one when a gust of wind knocked over the bike, causing it to land on it (I had it mounted very close to the stem and on the inside). As you can imagine, it's useless without the arms. Fortunately, I was able to fashion a fix with a thin piece of metal taking the place of the arms.
Bottom line is that if the holder was made of metal in the first place, it would have stood up to a very likely scenario, wind or not.
One other issue to note: the cam lever is meant to turned down (tightens a bolt) to bring the jaws as close to the bar's diameter, with the final tightening accomplished by actuating the cam itself. The design makes the turning of cam very difficult such that one can't close the jaws as much as it should be, which in turns makes the final cam actuation less than effective for a tight grip.
I'm not sure I would buy it again.
