4.0 out of 5 stars.  Elegant, useful, a little strange if you are not a Mac person, September 13, 2010
By veteran techie (Califonia, USA)
So, here's the thing - I have an iPad, but not a Mac.
The iPad is good for many things (and annoying in many ways too, i might add), bit one thing it is not good at is text entry. Apart from the fact that your are basially hitting flat, unresponsive glass with your finger tips, there are other issues to text entry:
1. The keyboard takes up a large part of the screen
2. To make matters worse, you frequently need to use a Shift, or two Shifts, to get
to the symbol you need (e.g. any digits requires a shift, and then shift back to
letters, and typing a '#' takes pressing the ""Shift"" key twice,
and then you need to press Shift or Space to get back to letters)
3. Since there are no arrow keys, selecting a place in text you already wrote that
you want to change is cumbersome and inexact, and your own hand and fingers in
the way to obscuring the area you want to select ...

So - if you want to type on an iPad, beyond small note and search terms, you need
a Bluetooth keyboard. If you do not need to travel, search no more - this is a great one. If you need to travel, this is still pretty good, but note it does not fold, and is slightly wider than the iPad itself.

Appearance, as usual with Apple, is fabulous. The keyboard is made from one piece of
aluminium, with even the ""on"" LED hidden. Pairing with the iPad is effortless - you
enable Bluetooth, turn on the keyboard, and they are paired. Range is pretty good too.

So - what's not to like?
1. When the keyboard is paired, the software keyboard is gone, and you MUST use
the external keyboard. Even if you left it in the other room.
2. It has lots of MAC-specific keys, which are quite bewildering to a PC-User like
me - and zero documentation comes with it.

All in all, I highly recommend this to any iPad owner

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A light-weight, yet very functional, wireless keyboard from Apple, September 27, 2010
By R. Nicholson
I just purchased an IPad and it became quickly apparent that the virtual keyboard that is available on the IPad screen was not going to work easily for me because of the amount of typing that I have to do.

I looked over several reviews of this unit as well as some collapsable models but decided finally to go with the Apple Wireless Keyboard mainly because of its availability AND the generally positive responses found in many reviews.

THE KEYBOARD:
The Positive:
1.)The unit is very light weight with dimensions of 11 inches long and 5 inches wide and an amazing 1/8 of an inch thick (except for the end that holds the 2 x AA batteries, where it blossoms (lol) to 3/4 of an inch.
2.)In actual fact this 'swelling' provides just the right amount of tilt to allow a proper angle for your hands and fingers. The keys themselves are about the size of chicklets and have a nice solid feel when pressed and released.
3.)The keyboard shuts itself off when not in continual use...thus extending battery life.

One possible negative;
1.)Although not a concern for me, some users may miss the grouping of number keys that are normally found on the right side of most keyboards, but you still have access to numbers that are found just above the QWERTY keyboard.

SETUP:
It came with batteries installed!! I simply turned on the keyboard (small button on the other end from where you insert the batteries), then I went to my IPad>settings>general>bluetooth and turn ON this function. It found my keyboard immediately, asked me to type in a number on the keyboard, and that was it...DONE.

CONCLUSION:
A handy, portable keyboard...small enough to easily pack in a small suitcase or handbag (if you want to use your IPad in transit).
Works beautifully with my new IPad. 5 Stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Yes, it works with Windows 7, September 11, 2010
By SomeRandomGuy (Mendocino, CA)
Pros: -Small
-Light
-feels to be built solid
-Keys have a nice feel to them and are perfectly spaced
-Doesn't slide around the table
-Accidental Caps Lock protection doesn't work with PC :)

Cons: -The Fn key doesn't work on my Windows 7
-Getting the proper drivers for the keyboard was more of a paint than it should be

Summary: The Apple Wireless Keyboard is a fantastic keyboard if you are looking for a small, portable keyboard that is fantastic to type on and solidly built. I say that getting the proper drivers was a pain because I had to go and download bootcamp 2.2 , 3.0 and 3.1 and install the respective Keyboard drivers that came with them which, after a little trial and error got everything to work on my PC and then some. The only thing I was worried about was when watching the reviews Apple keyboards have a second or two delay when pressing down Caps Lock so that you don't ""accidentally"" hit it. I'm a fast typer and I WOULD hate this, that is if it work for PCs. But it doesn't, and I can toggle on and off the Caps Lock as fast as I can press it.

Once 3.1 bootcamp is installed all the pause, rewind, fast forward, and volume keys work with my PC. The only keys that don't seem to work are the exposer keys and the Fn key. All in all it's a fantastic keyboard and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid keyboard and like quality and perfection. If you're a gamer this keyboard will be fine but you won't have the number pad or any game hot keys to aid you.

On a side note, for those of you who want to fully use the ""expose"" button on the keyboard there is a really simple alternative. Simply go and get Switcher (googling it will get you the dl link) and then when you open it go and select ""f3"" as the shortcut key. For me I chose Command f3. Looks exactly like Expose but better because you can customize every inch of the program.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works with iPod Touch with OS upgrade, September 11, 2010
By John S. Socha (Spring Grove, MN, US)
Until recently, it seemed as if Apple was not going to make a keyboard for the little iPod Touch. But the latest OS upgrade allows the bluetooth unit to be used, and it works fine. That, and the Quickoffice app gives you all you need, assuming you can deal with a tiny screen. But with the screen enlarged, it is pretty darn good!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Keyboard lives up to it's rep, and another smooth transaction via dentalBookshop, October 28, 2010
By Spungehead
I recently made the decision to pick up a Mac Mini, and decided to properly deck it out with a bluetooth keyboard. I wasn't specifically locked in to the Apple wireless keyboard, but after poking around the net for awhile, I decided it was the way to go. dentalBookshop had as good a price as anyone else, and, as they often do, free shipping, which really clinched going through them. Although free shipping often takes the full time frame they indicate, this was one of those lucky times where I received it quicker than expected. It's one solid little tank of a keyboard, but surprisingly roomy, mostly due to a lack of the separate number keypad, which I don't particularly need, at least in this situation. I probably adapt to different peripherals more quickly than the average bear, but I suspect most people would adapt pretty quickly to the layout and ""chiclet"" style keys. I haven't used it for gaming just yet (taking quite awhile to DL all my L4D2 stuff from Steam onto my new Mini :-)), but I suspect it will work just fine. If there was one thing I could change about the keyboard function, it would be for it to have a distinct difference in the green LED indicator between on and off. It appears to illuminate in the same manner and duration for both functions. Unless I missed it, one place Apple definitely goofed was in actually describing HOW to turn it off. Turning the keyboard on is simply a matter of pressing and immediately releasing the power button, which is on the opposite side of the battery compartment cap....a great place for it, as there's almost no chance you'll accidentally turn it off. Powering the keyboard down actually requires pressing and HOLDING they power button until the green LED goes out. At that point (assuming you still have the Mac up and running, you'll see a ""keyboard off"" indicator on the screen. Just a quick press and release (with the keyboard on) results in basically turning it on again, as weird as that sounds. I can't give any reports on battery life, as I've only been using it about a week. Since I tend to turn most things off when not in use, I imagine I'll get months (or more) out of the two AAs. If I knew they'd last as long as I expect they will, I'm sure I'd have given 5 stars for battery life. The only thing keeping the portability rating from 5 stars is the fact I personally feel like I would have to contain it in the original box (or something a bit more form fitting) to feel safe carrying it around, as opposed to just tossing it in a bag, briefcase, what have you....but I tend to be overly cautious on the electronics. It's not that I think it would be easily damaged by itself, but it could probably get powered up pretty easily. If I ever decide to update my 3rd gen iPod Touch to iOS 4 (which wouldn't benefit me much with my particular configuration), I'd also be able to use this keyboard with the Touch. I believe there are even software updates for the keyboard, which I'm going to check on right now......happy typing!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome keyboard, November 3, 2010
By N. Young (Boston, MA)
I got this keyboard with a new iMac about a month ago and while I haven't used it heavily, the battery life is still at 100%. This keyboard looks great on my desk and has excellent battery life. Runs on 2 AA batteries; get a 4-battery AA charger and you are all set with this keyboard and matching bluetooth magic mouse.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Brilliant Design and Flawless Function - Keypad Model Desired, November 2, 2010
By books911 (U.S.)
Apple's Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard in aluminium finish is a great product. I have two. One is used in my living room with the Mac Mini connected to my television. The keyboard is light and small, so using it on your lap is a breeze. I have no wish list or cons for the product, when I use it in that application on the couch. What isn't to love? The design is so sleek and slim, it's hard to imagine it ever growing tired looking.

It takes two AA batteries. If you use a quality battery product, the batteries last a long time. Plus, it functions great. The keyboard works when i need it to. After the initial pairing, it simply works. No hiccups or disconnects as I had in years past with other manufactures' products.

My second keyboard is used in the office at a desk. This keyboard works great too. Indeed, being out on the desk, it looks great with no wires and its small form factor.

I only request Apple offered an additional model for the office setting that included a number keypad. It's simply easier to enter numbers with a number pad, but yet keep the great wireless connectivity this model offers.

Therefore, brilliant product. Indeed, I like it so much, I wish it was available in this second version that included a number keypad. Light, great aesthetics, highly functional, and easy on batteries. Highly recommended. No complaints.
