Interesting illustrations to expose your child to new and different art. This book teaches Connectedness - a little girl living in the universe, on the planet, on a continent, in a country, in a city, on a block, in a house, at her window - letting the whole world (in her imagination) know her tooth is loose. This book illustrates big and small with cut outs within the page. It's one of those fun reads for the adult, too. Exposes your child to "charms" around the world in Madlenka's eyes. Starts the conversation about where your child lives in this big world.

This was purchased for my godchild, Madeline. We both loved it! The illustrations are delightful and the international exposure illuminating. What a wonderful way to increase appreciation of other cultures for child and adult alike.

First, the other reviewer is correct when stating that there's something wrong about carefully distinguishing between Italy, Germany, and France... but then having one person from "Latin America" and another from "Asia". These are continents, not countries - continents with diverse ethnic groups and cultures, and, of course, many different nations.
I also found the format of the book, while visually interesting, to be difficult and frustrating to read. It's hard to manage as a read-aloud... and it may also be too complicated for some young readers.

As an NYC ex-pat this book really wowed me when I first saw it. Reading through it a couple of times now, I realize it relies very heavily on (some rather nasty) stereotypes. We don't read this book anymore.
