5.0 out of 5 stars  Better than almost everything out there, including littman
By Colin S. Martin on April 29, 2014
I'm an EMT, and have one of these and a littman lightweight II (3 times the price) and have compared it to everything up to a cardiology 3. No stethoscope I've held this against apart from the cardio 3 is as good as this. Period.

the earpieces are not soft, but the clear ones seal my ears perfectly. I use a stethoscope all day and my ears get sore very easily, but this one doesn't give me any problems.

It's not light, but if you're the type who thinks one pound draped around your neck is too much, you need to seriously consider your overall health.

Nobody is going to steal it because it looks like every other fischer price piece of junk out there. And if they do, big whoop, $20.

I can easily hear bloodflow, determine insanely subtle lung sounds, and detect almost any valve abnormalities. The cardiology 3 has -slightly- better acoustics, but unless you're a CARDIOLOGIST, $200 for a stethoscope is just not smart when this is 98% as good.

There is a tiny bit of sound interference if the two tubes start rubbing against one another, but in the back of a loud ambulance bouncing all over the place, it's never been a problem, and the superior acoustics of a dual tube setup when still have been more of a help than a hinderance.

Every medic. EMT, or nurse that I've let use my omron has went and bought one for themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars  A great choice
By UZPEEP on March 04, 2014
I have read many of the reviews here and as a practicing physician for the past 43 years, felt compelled to comment. Recently I opened a closet in my home and out came the dozens of stethoscopes that I had used over the past 40 years. They came tumbling down. The best stethoscope is the one that you personally like the best. Stethoscopes are like pizza, everybody's got their own favorite toppings and their own favorite place. And don't tell them any different. To paraphrase a nurse's comment, when I was a clueless medical student, I purchased a Harvey triple head stethoscope. I couldn't hear a thing. It was best used for self-defense being so heavy you could knock out any attacker with one blow. The original Littman was a horrible piece of junk and left a bitter taste in my mouth for the brand from the get-go. Sprague Rappaport was the way to go. Yes, I have a Littman Master Cardiology [Littman improved after Welch Allyn bought them out] yes I have a classic III, yes, I tried a Tyco's double even tried Tyco's nursing scope, which back in the 1980s was fantastic.

I recently read the review [...]
which I found quite informative. They rated the Omron Rappaport Spragg as the second-best. If they had not taken two points off for the fact that it was double tubed it would've been rated the best. I purchased this item from Amazon. Immediately I used duct tape (called "gorilla tape" comes in black) to stop the double tubing from bumping. The stethoscope is fantastic. It is loud and clear and can be used in pediatrics as well. Sure, the diaphragm is not as tough as a $200 scope, but it comes with a replacement, and you can always purchase more. I recommend this to anyone.

Now for those of you feel a cheap stethoscope is beneath you, I encourage you to buy a very expensive one for the following reason. There is an indirect relationship between the time a stethoscope get stolen, and its price. In short, the more expensive the stethoscope, the sooner you will find that somebody ripped it off. This is especially true if you spend much time in a hospital setting. For most of my career I worked in an emergency room and it seemed that at least once a week, somebody was looking for their stethoscope.

I like anchovies mushrooms and onions on my pizza. Your choice is up to you.

4.0 out of 5 stars  Decent "beater" stethoscope
By drjits on October 30, 2011
I'm a Medicine resident. I bought this stethoscope while my Littmann Cardiology II was being refurbished. It's a bit heavy to wear around your neck all day, the tubing is pretty stiff, and minimal rubbing of the tubes while auscultating adds a fair bit of distracting noise, but the sound quality is clear and loud, and the materials are decent quality. All head pieces are interchangeable, and the kit includes adult and peds metal diaphragms, a plastic bell and three sets of ear pieces (hard small, soft small, mushroom). Considering the price, it's a great option for those who don't need the precise clarity of a cardiology stethoscope. A tip I followed: when the stethoscope arrives, the tubes will be stiff and bent. I recommend gently heating the tubes with a hair dryer while pulling them straight.

5.0 out of 5 stars  Exactly what I was looking for!
By Purdey on April 06, 2008
Wanted a spare stethoscope that worked well and wasn't expensive. This one works better than the expensive one I originally bought as a med student! Great quality, affordable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars  Great for a cheap stethoscope
By Mmhkay on February 05, 2008
If you're looking for a basic stethoscope, this model is fine. My only complaint is that the earpieces are not very comfortable, otherwise they do the job...

5.0 out of 5 stars  Good product, great sound!
By A.Duff on October 10, 2007
I'm currently nursing student and I bought this product to take my blood pressure/heart sounds exam. I was kind of reluctant to purchase this one because I thought the price was really cheap, therefore it couldn't be that good a stethoscope. I was really wrong. I can hear perfectly through this stethoscope, even more so than the one's we have in our nursing lab. I would suggest this to anyone interested in a stethoscope at a low price.
