5.0 out of 5 stars  A Great Product I Never Knew I Wanted
By Adam Snetiker (California, USA) on August 15, 2014
If you're wondering about my headline, I never knew I wanted it because I didn't know anything like this existed. I ordered this toothbrush a few days ago after seeing it sold on TouchOfModern, a website/app with deals on modern designs and various cool products. However, the wait time if you buy something on there is 2-3 weeks and, so I purchased it here. I just got it in the mail today and used it almost right away.

Here are a few reasons I became interested in this product to begin with, all of which--in my opinion--justify spending $50 on a new toothbrush:

1. It says you don't need any toothpaste. One of my problems brushing is that I seem to be very sensitive to it and gag easily when it foams up alot. Without toothpaste, all I have to do is spit out saliva and dip the brush in water and there's no bitty, chalky aftertaste. That was a huge plus for me.

2. It's not electric. I own an electric toothbrush as well as a normal one, and while I feel it's very effective in removing plaque the vibrations can be fairly harsh at times. While not all that painful, if your teeth happen to be sensitive it's not a good time to go the electric route. The Soladey J3X uses light to activate the semiconductor, and the only movement is your own brushing.

3. You can brush with less force. I probably push too hard when brushing most of the time, as many people do. If I get too close and press too hard, my gums bleed and hurt. More sensitive areas also hurt when you apply too much pressure to your teeth, but with a regular toothbrush we feel the need to do that for it to be effective. With this toothbrush, there's no need to do anything but make contact with your teeth - it's the chemical reaction that does all the work, removing tartar and plaque from the surface of your teeth to make them smooth and clean.

That's what made me want it. But now that I have it, what do I think?

After just the first use, I feel a NOTICEABLE difference. If I slide my tongue across my teeth, they all feel smooth as if I just had a dental cleaning recently. My bottom teeth happen to be especially rough at times, and while not perfect this is as close as they've felt to being really smooth in a long time. In fact, my last cleaning was 5 months ago and I'm going back in another 5 weeks, hopefully with teeth just as clean as the dentist will make them. There was no toothpaste to gag on, and I brushed very lightly and had no blood at all. You may not be able to see what happens, but based on my experience I believe the chemical reaction created with the ions really happens, so this brush is well worth having.

This is a great product! I hope they continue improving products like this any way they can, because I'll surely buy the next version as well if there's a difference. If you have around $50 to spare, you can greatly improve your oral health without too much effort.

4.0 out of 5 stars  Good brush, but is it necessary?
By pantera25 on November 27, 2013
I have quite a collection of brushes and even though I loved this brush at first, now I find myself reaching for it less and less. It's a bit of high maintenance and sometimes hard to hold since you need to make sure the light gets to the solar panel. I'd say for those who are in doubt, save yourselves the money and just go to orawelness website for proper brushing technique video. Since learning it, I can achieve same clean feeling with any brush. You don't even have to buy the brush they advertise on their website.

2.0 out of 5 stars  Severely needs some reliability re-engineering
By TruthSeeker on August 06, 2013
LOOKS pretty enough though I cannot tell if it is REALLY "on."
And .... I find that my hand covers the photocell at the end of the TOO-SHORT handle which defeats its whole purpose.
For the photocell to be exposed leaves me holding it with an annoying cramped-hand position.
So I taped a mini-flashlight onto it with AL foill that reflects down onto the photocell.
( I should have applied for a patent for this VAST improvement ! )
Right now I'd REALLY prefer either:
1. a LONGER handled version or
2. a battery operated LIGHT-brush with an SIMPLE, solid-state, adjustable voltage regulator and/or an adjustable constant-current LED screen for aREADOUT to KNOW it's actually WORKING ... electrically. - - can't tell with this present engineering ...

So far I like this toothbrush a lot. It is very convenient
I have yet to see how effective it is.
I'll see during my next dentist visit I guess.
