3.0 out of 5 stars  After 5 months: Cleans well, but brush head replacements are expensive and may be too powerful for some
By Ulysses on December 23, 2015
I was surprised to see this Sonicare toothbrush under $40, and went ahead and bought it. Here's what I think after 5 months:

Pros:

* Seems to clean pretty well. Leaves teeth feeling shiny. Nice to have that fresh from the dentist feeling every morning.
* My brother has what appears to be pretty much the same model for several years and it's still going, so durability is good.
* My dental hygienist recommended it.
* The included brush head is durable and lasts longer than 3 months, at least for me.
* Comes with a coupon for $5 off replacement brush heads.

Cons:

* Replacement brush heads, even with the coupon, cost a lot. My brother got one of the cheaper knockoff replacement brush heads and I can see little strands of bristles hanging out. (not frayed, but almost falling out) So I'm going to wait for a deal on the genuine ones.
* The included brush head is pretty small in comparison to your average manual toothbrush, perhaps 60% of the size. You can buy bigger (and softer) ones. See photo which compares it to a Colgate 360 manual toothbrush.
* The instructions say to brush for 2 minutes on the fronts and backs of your teeth, but neglect to mention the chewing surfaces - probably the most important part of your teeth to brush!
* After a few uses, it changes from a "gentle" introductory mode to a more "powerful" mode. It is quite a bit more powerful, and I wish I could change it back. Even the gentle mode is too much for my girlfriend, who promptly said she's never going to use it, and will stick with her manual Colgate 360 brush.

Tips:

* You don't (and probably shouldn't) press down when brushing with this brush - it might harm your enamel. (and will wear out the head faster)
* All Sonicares are basically the same unit, with fancier and possibly unnecessary features at the high end. The higher end ones are thinner and lighter though.

Overall, recommended at this price. There's currently a $10-off coupon at Amazon, so you can get it for $29.95 now.

5.0 out of 5 stars  Fairly basic features for a sonic toothbrush but who really needs all those fancy bells and whistles when this brushes g
By Marcus Widjaya on November 30, 2015
Switched from Oral-B Sonic Complete to this based on recommendations that the Philips Sonicare is superior.
Having used it for a couple of weeks, I have to agree.

1. Stronger, faster and feels cleaner after brushing.
2. Good battery life 1-2 weeks of use - your mileage may vary.
3. Has 2 minute timer and quad pacer (30s intervals).

1.0 out of 5 stars  After years, we're switching to Oral B. This latest Sonicare is a BUST.
By Mom on June 24, 2015
We have used sonicare for years. Every 1-2 years or so, the brush motor or the charger breaks down, and we end up buying a new one. We've stuck with them in spite of the price, the inconvenience of consistent breakdowns right after the warranty period, and the DISGUSTING buildup that happens under the brush head,, because our gums are so much healthier since starting with Sonicare.

The thing is... after this last break down, I went with an Oral B (because I got tired of replacing the sonicare so often and I hated the buildup issue, I couldn't stand the smell, no matter how much I cleaned it), and then my partner's brush broke down, and I replaced it with... you guessed it, another Sonicare. UNFORTUNATELY, the replacement is AWFUL. I don't know what they did with this latest version, but it's LOUD, obnoxiously so, and vibrates uncontrollably. I've had it with this brand, and we'll be switching to Oral B. When my kids' Sonicares break down (and I know they will), we'll go with Oral B for them too.

Sonicare: simply because you were first to market, or could advertise the loudest, doesn't mean you can slack on quality. Fix your known issues!

4.0 out of 5 stars  I like the product
By Vincy Liu on June 08, 2015
I like the product. But quite weird that when I opened the package, there seemed some space missing something.

1.0 out of 5 stars  Those that think this toothbrush is amazing have no idea what they are missing!
By Kenneth Brandt on January 21, 2015
I have a very old Sonicare FlexCare toothbrush, model HX6950, that I bought in 2008. It's not in the best shape these days; I need to open it up once in a while to clean it because a little bit of moisture can get inside due to the old gasket on top. The model I'm reviewing had a good promotion ($10 off the normal price), so I figured this was a great time to replace my old toothbrush. Now I wish I hadn't bothered.

This toothbrush vibrates like crazy when in the air, but as soon as the brush head touches my tooth, the vibration almost completely stops. My old toothbrush had a very strong vibration that did not stop once in contact with my teeth. Don't worry, I did follow the instructions to disable the easy-start feature.

I actually opened up my new toothbrush last night to see if there was something I could do. The old toothbrush had an adjustable gap between the coil and the magnet that would affect the strength of the vibration. I thought maybe this one was adjusted wrong at the factory. Easy fix, I thought! However, what I found was a completely different design from my old toothbrush. There is no way to adjust it. The vibration is weak by design and there's nothing I can do to fix it.

If I had not come from a better toothbrush, I might think this one was amazing. Perhaps that's why it has such great reviews, since it's an entry level Sonicare and most people buying this came from a manual toothbrush. However, since I know how much better they can be, I'm very disappointed. My teeth just don't feel clean after using this like they do with my old toothbrush.

I bought this toothbrush thinking the price was low because it doesn't have all the features (cleaning modes) or the big base and accessories like the more expensive models. I could deal with that. However, what I found is that it's cheaper because it doesn't come with all the features, accessories, AND an it has an inferior vibration design.

1.0 out of 5 stars  Cheap, rattles, does not clean as well as the original E-Series
By Shari D. on December 09, 2014
Promptly returning. This unit is cheap, makes horrible noise and there is ZERO chance it vibrates/cleans as well as my original E-Series did. The brush head sounds like its going to rattle off and I feel like I need to actually "brush" with this unit where my old one literally did all the work for you. I am so disappointed.
