Advertised as 2 megapixels, whereas it is actually .3 megapixels, October 24, 2014

Most significantly, it is advertised as 2 megapixels, whereas it is actually 0.3 megapixels, that's one third of one megapixel. Native resolution is 640x480=307,200 pixels or .3 megapixels. Additionally, depth of field is approximately 3mm, so it is very difficult to hold in steady focus. The field of view is a narrow 10mm, about the width of a molar. Also, the item was sold as new, but was clearly used and repacked. Very disappointing, I would not recommend this camera. It does produce an image, so I gave it 2 stars.

Does provided live images of a tooth that can be useful but with many limitations that put it more in the toy category., June 04, 2014

As it says it provides a live highly detailed image of a tooth or parts of it, but that is part of the problem in practical use as the image is SO magnified that it is difficult to keep the image of a tooth in in focus and the depth of field or ability to maintain a focus is very limited so It has to be held extremely still and at just the perfect distance. Also it is SO magnified that you can generally see only a part of a tooth and not the whole tooth at once. I was able to capture images, but the captured images were consistently out of focus even though the live video was in focus, so something about the digitization of the image is not correct at this time. In addition the supplied software is such that when I am done using the camera I have to completely shutdown the computer and start over because I can not turn off the viewing window as it just hangs the whole operating system.
I had to have braces recently and I will keep the camera because I do need to have a way to check cleanliness of my teeth, but I wish I had tried another brand perhaps. So in summary an interesting piece of hardware with potential, but for me it is more in the not ready for serious use, toy category.

I'm getting a lot of dental work done, and my dentist shows me the pictures from his camera, and I wanted to be able to check my progress at home. A mirror and flashlight just don't cut it. I got this and plugged it into a USB port on my Windows XP laptop. XP recognized it as a USB video device and installed it (didn't use the included CD), then I opened "My Computer" and double-clicked the camera, and a window opened up with video from the camera. I stuck it in my mouth, and got nice clear focused images just like my Dentist shows me. Haven't tried to save a still picture, but I'm 100% happy with the installation and video performance. There's a bag of plastic sheaths included.

Nice for the price, some glitches, August 15, 2012

We just got this working yesterday. Doesn't totally sync with Patterson Imaging so someone has to click the mouse while someone holds the camera. There is a learning curve to it. My hygienist is much better at it already than I. The zoom button is worthless. very crisp pix i must say. very light camera. Does not come with a holder, we had to rig something with velcro strips. owner's manual is worthless. Like I said still playing with it will update if any changes.
