4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great value, but ring is clunky, January 31, 2016
By M. Kinzer
Totally worth the cost. I haven't used it much yet due to cold weather, but can see using this daily. I'd give it five stars, especially for what you get with it (all the added goodies), but the ring is kind of clunky and doesn't seem like its great quality.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  The clip-on strobes are so easily dislodged this product is essentially useless in the field, October 10, 2015
By Colin Pittendrigh
This product shook my otherwise loyal faith in Nikon engineering. The clip-on strobes are so easily dislodged this product is essentially useless in the field, say for outdoor insect photography. I sold mine and took a loss.

I bought a used Nikor ring light and like it a lot better. It isn't wireless, so a cord hooks back to the flash slot on top of the camera. But at least it stays put, even in the field. And the photos are about the same. Still a bit too much shadow but better than nothing.

So far the best results I've achieved (in the field) uses neither. I built a portable light tent with stainless steel wire and window curtain material. And then use (diffused) natural light or one or more flash units, where one is attached to a cord, to the camera, and the other is set to slave mode. The ring light is the most convenient. The light tent produces (almost) studio like results.

The wireless unit is no good in the field, because the lights keep falling off. And it's totally inferior to umbrella strobes in the studio. So I see it as close to worthless.
