Compact top tele-zoom lens with macro 1:2 function. A high mechanical quality combined with excellent optical qualities are the characteristic features of this telephoto lens. This Di lens can be used on a digital APS-C sized or full frame camera. This lens ideally complements standard kit lenses. A 'Macro Switchover' mechanism allows a minimum focus distance of 0.95m within the focal length range of 180-300mm. You can fill the entire frame with subjects of apx. 5 x 7cm size, at a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2, ideal for capturing images of flowers, insects and objects of similar size. With its 300mm tele-end the lens guarantees ultimate photo fun. The designation “Di” (Digitally Integrated Design) marks a generation of lenses, which have been specially adapted to the higher requirements of digital SLR cameras (APS-C and full frame).

Feels Great Horrible Pix, June 07, 2017
By William A. Fuller

This lens has weight and feels wonderful in your hand. But it frequently makes horrible images. Focus is soft. Lens is completely useless in normal mode unless you have a Focus Fine Adjust feature in your camera. Carefully setting the fine adjust yields better but still soft focus. Usable for small prints as long as you're not going to crop too much.
Much more serious is the horrendous amount of chromatic aberration that shows up under a wide variety of conditions. I have literally never seen worse and I've seen a lot of bad. Lightroom is able to "correct" it to some extent. By correct I mean turn the deep blue to solid grey with light blue fringes. Unfortunately, the fringes are so wide they are impossible to ignore. The grey shows up clearly when correction is applied without blowing up the image. Grey is better than the deep blue, but you can't unsee it.
In macro mode, the lens seems to work OK as long as you are careful about your lighting.
But in the end, why a reputable company would release a lens this bad and put their name on it is beyond my understanding. I know it's cheap and I bought it just as a backup for a couple of better lenses (broke one during a football game last year and didn't have a backup handy), but this is a lot worse than a typical kit lens. It's a shame, because it really does have a great feel.

Great for nature photography, April 11, 2017

I so enjoyed breaking this lens in this past weekend at a local wildlife refuge. I use it with my Nikon D3000. I adore my Nikon 55-200 and have taken it on safari, but I wanted to try for a little more zoom without breaking the bank. This does the trick! I tried out the macro feature on the turtle photos. For the price, it's certainly worth it.

Good Purchase, February 09, 2017

I never 5 star anything, there is always room for improvement. This was purchased specifically for a cheap option to Macro and it does that quite well. Focal length is about 3 feet but it does allow for some good macro shots. I will say that auto-focus doesn't work to well for the macro at 3 feet but it is easy enough to turn it off and manually focus. I might have bought a more expensive unit for serious close-ups but for the money...this absolutely can't be beat!!!

Nice price, minimal tradeoffs, December 30, 2016

For the price, this is an amazing zoom lens. I am still learning to use it, but to be able to switch between macro and tele modes is great. Rarely use the 18-55mm standard lens nowadays. The switch between tele (normal) mode is a bit difficult to do at times, and it sometimes is hard to tell which mode it is in until you try to focus on something and find out you can't and realize you're not in the mode you think you are. Other than that, it has helped me to adjust to a Nikon D7100 very well after having been accustomed to a Canon EOS T1i. It would be nice to be able to open all the way to an f2.8 aperture, but it doesn't seem to hurt much, and probably helps in photographing flowers where one wants to keep the flower in focus but have the background obscure. Pros: Price, versatility Cons: some ease of use concerns, some tradeoffs due to price

Great buy for your money!, October 13, 2016

Novice photo hobbyist here,
Quite possibly the best purchase I have ever made on Amazon. As a refurbished product I would have expected to find some flaws (as I have with other refurbished Nikon lenses), whether it be scratches on the body or a hitch in the focus ring, but I found nothing. Wonderful image quality, fast autofocus, and amazing zoom. I bought this as an entry level macro lens and it has blown me away.
For those of you who are concerned about shipping lenses: Don't worry. All you get is the lens, it was tripled wrapped in bubble wrap, suran wrapped to a piece of elevated cardboard. It was essentially in a box within a box. I wish I had thought to take a picture because it was better packaging than some other lenses I've had shipped.

Wonderful lens! At first I was struggling using it and almost returned it; I'm so glad I didn't! Takes fantastic macro shots and wonderful zoom with adequate lighting. Works with my Nikon D5300. I took some photos at the Calgary zoo that I've uploaded for examples.
