5.0 out of 5 stars.  for what i read in reviews the 7DMII is like a mini 1Dx, January 06, 2016
By gogolac
for the little buffer of the nikon D7100 I made the switch to Canon for this camera the other thing was the 10fps. for what i read in reviews the 7DMII is like a mini 1Dx. the great AF fully exceeded my expectations in every way, It is fast and accurate. The 7D ii is built extremely well and the controls are superior. the dual card slots (CF/SD) is really excellent. The menu system great, well laid out and informative

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect for birds and wildlife with good support and technique, January 01, 2016
By Toad S. Hopper
After years of waiting for the Nikon D400 I made the switch to Canon for this camera and the 400mm f5.6L prime. I can't add much to what has already been written other than my observations with IQ. I find that with the pixel density and the 560mm focal length of the 400mm that I need to keep shutter speed up to at least 1/2000 with a non IS lens to get consistently sharp photos. Even better with a big fat Gitzo 3 series and gimbal head. It could be my shaky hands but with proper support and long lens technique (press down on the lens, smooth shutter control) I am blown away with my Birds in Flight shots.
Pros-10fps-only thing faster is the point and shoots in JPEG but I get honest 10 shots of RAW no issue with a semi fast card
dual slots
rock solid-had the camera and lens fall off a tripod. Kept working perfectly. (note-great to have your home owners insurance paid up as well as never use a lens plate with out stops and I Now use a tether line on top of that)
Very water resistant-have been out in rain and waves and it's still going strong.
Customizable like no other camera I have seen, maybe too much customization available.

Cons-sort of expensive-did not feel right with the grip
sort of bad battery life-carry 2 spares with you always

5.0 out of 5 stars.  it is a great combo for wild life including flying birds, December 31, 2015
By gene alderson
I started wildlife photography with a Canon T3i , moved up to 100-400 L lens, then I purchased this camera and a 1.4 extender, the auto focus works with the extender, 10 shots a second for flying birds vs 3, it is a great combo for wild life including flying birds. I recommend this camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This camera is like a mini 1Dx, December 31, 2015

This camera is like a mini 1Dx, incredibly fast, great AF, and just solid overall. If you don't mind the crop sensor and it's limitations, then this camera is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very Happy with the 7d Mark II (still review only - No Video), December 27, 2015
By FloridaDrafter
I'm really impressed with this camera. I bought it primarily for bird photography, and to be more specific, birds in flight. I've only had it for a couple of months, and the shots I've been able to take were very challenging, low light, overcast, windy conditions, but that's just the way it's been here in North Florida, but that's the breaks and you can't just choose perfect weather to shoot in, plus working makes it hard to get out on the really good days.
The images seem a bit soft, but that can be adjusted with some slight compromises, color is great. The speed of the auto focus is amazing and it locks quickly, I've been able to get shots through vegetation and twigs that I never thought would be possible (see attached Yellow-bellied Sapsucker photo). Please keep in mind that the attached shots are cropped and reduced. I like the ability to customize the buttons, which makes it really easy to switch between focus points and be able to see changes and settings in the viewfinder. Coming from a T4i and 70d, I miss the touch screen, built in WiFi, and articulating LCD, but I got used to not having them. It is a bit heavy, particularly with my EF 70-300MM f.4-5.6 L IS USM lens, but it is still quite easy to hand hold for long periods while waiting for the perfect shot. I like the double exposure feature, but have only used it once, but it works well. 10 FPS is for real, even shooting RAW +JPeG. This thing will fire 10 FPS until your card is full, it just never seems to fill the buffer, at least from my experience, and believe me, I've tried. The Auto Focus section of the camera is a challenge and requires some reading, you tube videos, and some trial and error, but once you get it dialed in, it is second to none. Be wary of some of the you tube vids that offer settings for the 7D Mark II for particular situations, and trust me, they can be messy and screw up your configuration. The DVD that comes with your camera have a "more in depth" manual than the booklet that comes in the box, that helped me more that anything else I found. Also, the software that comes on the DVD, in particular "Digital Photo Professional" is a new version (ver 4.2.10.0) works well, although has a tendency to hang for a few seconds while you are editing from time to time (Win 7 64bit). The RAW files also work in ver 3.14.48.1, but won't work on the version that comes packaged with the 70d or the T6s/i, so if you are upgrading from those cameras to the 7d Mark II, be prepared to use the version of DPP that came with the 7D2. I've tried Light Room and Corels Aftershot Pro 2, but honestly, DPP is just as good, and better in some respects, the main being you don't have to create a custom camera / lens file for your shots to come in correctly, i.e, your custom camera settings like sharpening, white balance, color saturation, etc. But keep in mind, these things are lost anyway when using third party RAW editors like Light Room, but editable in DPP and Light Room for that matter, but with DPP, they are imported with your RAW files. I haven't tried any of the other utilities on the DVD, so I can't comment on them, but they look promising for tethered remote shooting, rating and organizing your shots. I D/L straight from the card to dated folders, so that's that. I haven't found much use for the dual card slots, one is SD and the other Compact Flash, which I think would be better served if they were both SD. CF is supposed to be faster, but they are way more expensive GB per GB. If I do go dual, it means I will have to buy a new reader with a CF slot. I could see getting a CF and an EyeFi card, but I don't plan to transfer over WiFi.
Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this Camera, I would have given it 5 stars, but I really believe they could have added WiFi and touch screen capabilities. I guess "Pros" don't go for that kind of thing. LOL
