Random under-exposures is a serious issue with some K30s, October 23, 2015

I purchased my K30 in August 2012. I shot a little over 3,500 exposures before problems started to developed. Earlier this year I began to see random under-exposed shots. Then during the summer the camera failed miserably while on a vacation trip. All pictures were totally under exposed (e.g. 'black'), regardless of the amount of exposure compensation that was added. In researching Pentax user forums I have found that is a known problem, particularly with early K30 bodies. It has something to do with magnets 'sticking' in the aperture assembly. My camera was well outside the 1-year warranty when this happened, but under 3-years old. Repair estimates run over $200 plus return shipping costs. Since the follow-on Pentax K50 body is almost identical to the K30 I found it to be more cost effective to purchase it as a replacement rather than fix my camera. If you had asked me what I thought of the camera at the 24 month mark I would have likely given it 4-5 stars, but with its relatively short life span I can't give it more that one.

An Incredible Camera, August 24, 2015

Incredible camera. With my 50mm f:2.8 Macro the resolution is amazing. The zooms don't give it enough justice. The ability to use screw mount lenses is a plus. Though I have a battery of Nikon AI lenses. Only the Nikon D750 seems to meet my desires. But the price is too high for my tastes.

Did not last but 13 months., August 03, 2015

Sad, sad, sad that my Pentax K-30 quit working 13 months after I bought it. The pictures started getting darker and darker. I took it to a professional photographer friend and had him try to mess with the settings, no results. I am so disappointed with this camera because I had all the K-mount lenses to go with it. Now I'm back to the camera on my phone. Fortunately, I used my American Express to purchase the camera and got a full refund from them. I was told that this is a common problem with this camera and costs over 200.00 to repair. Search Pentax K30 exposure problems and you will see what I mean.

Good starter camera, July 10, 2015

This is my first dslr; I know little to nothing about photography, having only taken one course at the community college. I like this camera, it has been easy to use and figure out, and I have gotten some good shots with it. I especially like that it and the lenses are weather resistant. I've had the camera almost a year now.

A good entry level DSLR, June 26, 2015

This is a nice entry level DSLR at a good price. This camera has fewer megapixels than Canon or Nikon entry level cameras but you may not notice the difference. The difference in price you will likely notice. Being weather resistant could come in handy if you use cameras outside a lot as I do. This camera can use a battery adapter that will allow the use of AA batteries instead of the stock battery. With my Pentax 50-200 lens the pictures are quite good. Consider this camera if you are thinking of a DSLR.
