3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good shredder as a micro shredder, January 06, 2016
By Monte
Good shredder as a micro shredder, but putting 7 sheets into it puts a lot of strain on the motor, often stalling.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect for small or home office, December 15, 2015

Micro shred is perfect. Quiet and strong. Fits under desktop. Credit cards need further processing as they are not crosscut and ribbons are attached (and accordion fold)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent. Do not buy any shredder that cuts larger pieces., December 03, 2015

If your shredder is not a micro-cut cross shredder, then I personally think it's worthless. The 450M shreds in the perfect size. It's so small that no one in their right mind would even attempt to put the shreds back together, even if they thought that there could be a monetary award. This is the entire point. I bought this one after I shredded a bunch of sensitive paper on a "regular" cross cut shredder and I looked at the shreds. I noticed that my SSN was completely intact on one single shred! Then my DOB was also on another shred. My complete name was not hard to find after putting together a few shreds. So my last shredder was more of a liability because shredding something implies importance. When you see fat shreds, a bad person may purposefully try to take it, knowing you are trying to hide your information.

As you can see in the picture, this shredder has no chance of having your entire name, SSN or DOB on one single shred. Actually it took me 5 minutes to find that one shred with almost a whole word on it that looks like "Point". The way the shredder is designed is that it cuts along the length of the paper, so almost all words are cut into individual letters like the "g" that you can see. So if you have something very sensitive, make sure it goes in the machine length-wise, like a normal paper and it will cut it into individual letters or half-letters.

For an extra level of security, I will also mix in some sheets of non-sensitive paper to dilute important information. Also, once a bag is full, I will mix it with my hand and remove a few handfuls and place them in a completely separate trash. This way, if you found my large bag of shreds, you would never be able to completely piece it together, even if you were crazy enough to try. That may sound a little paranoid, but the whole point is to destroy paper with no chance of someone else recovering the information. Once the information can be put back together, you might as well just put it in the regular recycle bin.

As for the function, this machine pretty easily takes 3 sheets of paper. It will definitely cut 7 sheets, but if you feed it 7 sheets, you have to make sure you align them up carefully to avoid folding. Remember that 7 sheets turns into a small area of 14 sheets if folded once at the corner and a small area of 21 sheets if folded in the center because it must fold twice. So I usually shred 2-4 sheets at a time. You can just carelessly ram 3 sheets of paper in this shredder and not worry about anything getting stuck or having any struggle of the machine. The set of 3 sheets can fold all it wants and the shredder will destroy it! The shredder does pretty well dealing with crooked paper so long as it's less sheets. I've had other shredders that just got stuck once the paper folded.

Also, note that this is not a commercial shredder. If you get a huge stack of paper and expect it to eat it all in 5 min, you will be disappointed. This machine needs to cool down at some point. So if you have a big stack, just shred some then wait and shred some more.
