 Great base unit, bad headset, November 22, 2015

I bought this for work home. It served me well. It has excellent reception. I have family members using it 100 yards outside the house with no drop calls. The problem was the cheap headset which broke after six months of daily use. The cable was still intact but the copper wires inside broke. I replaced it with a costly Sennheiser headset 3 years ago. Still working great. Perfect for when you are cooking and talking or similar situations.
The battery died on me after 2.5 years. My 2nd battery is is about to give as well.

 Great product, units and elements not interchangeable, November 09, 2015

My third Plantronic phones, I still like them a lot.
My only gripe is that they keep changing the design of the chargers and the headsets.The phone doesn't fit different chargers, a different model headset doesn't work with most other phone models, so when the phone finally poops, I have to buy a complete unit. (Headsets can be replaced separately, but sometimes they cost almost as much as a new phone/charger/headset.)

 Headphone connection issues, October 26, 2015

I have three of these. On every one of them, the headset plug does not mate well with the unit's jack. This causes people to say that the can't hear me at times. This happens on a large percentage of calls. I also used the CT12 in the past, and this wasn't much of an issue. Plantronics has replaced headsets for me (which is fine); however, the tolerances of either the jack or the plug are off. I'm looking for other products to replace the headset phone.

Plantronics phones used to be my favorite but now they just don't last. I have 3 in my home because I enjoy the convenience of the headset and I have used them for about 15 years, starting with the CT 10. The headset in particular is very flimsy and it seems to stop working very quickly- either a break in the line or something wrong with the connector to the phone. I have replaced these with Plantronic head sets, but while these appear to be more substantial, they have mute and sound options that make it difficult to hear over the phone. I have purchased Panasonic headsets and these work better but still don't last that long. My husband and I are both adults and use these phone correctly, so I imagine if this was a household with kids would have a tougher time keeping these working.

 Battery looks like a big issue, October 06, 2015

I have had great experiences with Plantronics Headsets in the past. They have been durable and had excellent battery life. This unit has a 500mAh battery (two AAA bonded together). That's just too small. If you are familiar with Eneloop batteries a single AAA battery is 800mAh so two would have 1600mAh. I will see how it goes but I may just get out a soldering iron and make a new battery for this thing. The main reason I chose this unit is for keypad. The high end Plantronics headsets have non intuitive buttons, are pain to use and have limited in functionality, so I'll live with the wire from the headset to the keypad on this unit for the convenience. You can make outgoing calls, what a concept!

 5 Years of Heavy Use, September 14, 2015

I've had the CT14 for about 5 years. I bought it when I started working at home. I've been on this phone 2-5 hours per day, 5 days per week for many years. After 5 years, the headset plug has started to crackle when wiggled, I am looking to buy a replacement headset (M170 ) for $25. I have used many high end hands-free office systems. This inexpensive system works as well or better.
Pros:
DECT Range is amazing, I can walk all over the neighborhood on the phone. Guessing about 100 yard range.
I love the Plantronics sound and durability. Through the years, they have earned my loyalty many times over.
Headset is comfortable with many configurations. I wear this 8-9 hours per day (I use overhead loop), and forget it's on my head.
The handset is very small, clips on belt. It has a phone book, volume, mute, caller id, redial, history, etc
I have dropped this thing too many times to count, sometimes on the concrete. Not a scratch.
I get 2 to 5 days per charge, talking 2 to 5 hours per day. I get a week or more out of a charge on standby.
Coons:
The menu and software controls are very primitive. But I tolerate it because of all the compact features.
It's wired form the handset to headset, there's always a wire.
Conclusion:
For me, the advantage of having the caller ID and phone book clipped to my belt far outweigh the inconvenience of the wire from my belt to my head. As I've said, I wear this all day. I work, type. point/click, cook, clean the yard, play with the dogs, sweep the pool, or sometimes just sit in the back smoking a cigar, all while talking on the phone without the other parties having a clue of what I am up to.
I have looked all over for something better. I can't find anything close. I am replacing the old headset for $25 and staying with my CT14. Maybe I'll get another 5+ years out of it.
