2.0 out of 5 stars.  Do not recommend purchasing this for office use, May 15, 2015
By MP's Wife
It shredded well while it worked, but it jammed constantly and the motor gave out after 2 years of moderate use, despite it saying it is made for heavy use. Bin has a decent capacity, but it beeps at you and stops you from shredding anymore once it is about half full. Do not recommend purchasing this for office use.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This is a workhorse shredder., January 30, 2015
By Dave K.
So far, the best shredder I've owned. I've put a lot of paper, CDs, and credit through this thing and it hasn't failed yet. I've been converting a lot of paper files into digital, so this thing has gotten a workout.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Wow... first one blew smoke, sparks ..., October 21, 2014
By weekend warior (Anytown, Oregon United States)
Wow... first one blew smoke, sparks and almost caused an electrical house fire! The next one was safer... except it did absolutely nothing; no lights, no power, and yes I read the trouble shooting tips and beyond! I feel that this is probably an outstanding cross-cut shredder if it arrives in working condition... However, 2 out of 2 issues is a cause for concern and I just want you to know that there are lemons and sometimes they come in pairs! And so it goes...

This is one BAD shredder!! any thing you throw at it, it eats. I do piles of shredding at a time and this puppy will go virtually non stop without burning up. Good value

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Still going strong after years of use, November 18, 2013
By book/movie/music/health enthusiast (Florida, USA)
I bought this shredder in July of 2011 and thought it was about time to leave a review for it since it's still going strong after almost 2.5 years;) Here are some random thoughts on it:

Shredder Size - it's big, my old shredder (WC11) could fit inside, it's heavy, but on wheels, cord comes out flat on back which would be good for putting it against a wall, however if the outlet you're using would be behind the unit on the wall, the plug is standard, so you still can't back it up tight to the wall.

Build Quality - Appears high. A very solid unit. Clean design, looks substantial like it belongs in an office setting whereas my old shredder (WC11) looks like it is for home use.

Noise level - Quiet! (relatively speaking) All previous shredders were about as quiet as a wood chipper. With this one you could honestly shred paper with someone sleeping next door which I definitely couldn’t do with the previous shredder.

Shredded paper size - micro in comparison to the Fellowes W11C as well as all of my shredders before that. Previous shredders I had I could pull out pieces and completely read them. You can still read random letters and numbers, but the pieces aren’t discernible for the average person (it will keep the honest honest;). After almost 2.5 years, mine is shredding paper to pieces that are a little more than 3/4 inch long by 1/8 inch wide. However, if you need a document destroyer that leaves no pieces legible and can’t be reassembled by a master micro puzzle person, this shredder isn’t for you.

Paper compartment/bin - there is a small removable bin for catching cd/dvd shreds at the rear of the large bin. It's a nice idea. It does however catch some of the paper shreddings, but this isn't a big deal to me. I just remove it until I shred cds/dvds (which I haven’t tried). The bin capacity is pretty decent and for my uses I empty it every 2-3 months (with squashing the paper down until it absolutely can’t take anymore). The bin’s inside dimensions are roughly 11” x 11” x 15 ¼”. The bin is removable which is nice, but the only way I’ve found to empty it without micro shreddings everywhere is to dump it in a plastic garbage bag that the whole bin will fit in. I don’t love recycling paper in a plastic bag, but it’s too big for paper grocery bags.

Setup - None. Plug it in and you're off to shredding bliss.

Maintenance - Fellowes recommends shooting the teeth with non-aerosol vegetable spray every time you empty the bin.

Additional thoughts - My previous shredder the Fellowes WC11 did a great job and handled everything I threw at it, but my number one reason for replacing it was the hassle of emptying the bin. It seemed to fill up really quickly and then it was such a hassle and a mess to empty that I would let it sit for awhile and get way behind on shredding. This unit has a bin that easily pulls out to be emptied, has more capacity, and it cuts everything much finer, so I can get away with not emptying it for months (with squashing the paper down inside). My only complaint is when the shredder shreds, the shreddings pile up in the middle like an ant hill and when it reaches a pre-determined point (which seems too low), a super annoying warning alarm and lights go off on both sides of the shredder that stops it from being used. All you have to do is push over the ant hill and you’re back in business, but it is annoying when you want to shred something quick and you get denied with the alarm system. I also still hate emptying the shredder, but at least now it is months before I need to. Other notes, it claims 16 sheets of paper at a time. It can shred 16 pieces of office paper at a time (I tested), but my normal use is maybe 2-6 sheets at a time. I remove staples before I shred. I've never shredded CD/DVDs with it (there's a separate slot for these). It shows to shred credit cards in the paper slot, but I've never tried mostly because I'm not sure about recycling paper with plastic shreds in it (of course you could first empty the bin;) It seemed like a lot of money to spend on a paper shredder, but I would absolutely buy it again and pass on the “cheap” shredders. I would recommend it to family and friends as long as my caveats above work for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome Shredder!, November 15, 2013
By Kaladen
This shredder is the best I've ever bought. I've now had this about a year and I still love it. It is big, but it's what I need. I probably empty it at least 1-2 times a month. I use a lubricant sheet at the very end of a full bin to make sure it stays sharp. So far, it has been tested to great extents by putting in unopened junk mail envelopes to even my son put in a CD in the paper shred slot, without me noticing and it chopped it right up just like the paper. I was not happy about him doing it, since I thought it would damage the shredder, but to my dismay, the shredder has been unaffected...though I have taught him to only put CDs in the CD slot since that is not a crosscut shred. Very awesome shredder!
