I am not sure why the one star review. It is a about $6.00 instrument compared to $40-$60 instrument if you were to buy it in a professional supplier for a good one. I look at it as a disposable. Use it for a emergency, then throw it away if it broke. Learning how to put on the elastic (rubber band) is another story:)

I came across these pliers while surfing Amazon and was really surprised that I could fine dental instruments here. As an orthodontist, I usually spent $25 to $80 dollars on each Mathieu plier so I was skeptical about buying something so inexpensive. There had to be a catch. I ordered one pair to see what it was like and it was great. Solid construction, smooth hinge, easily engaged and disengaged, handled the autoclave fine, in other words, absolutely worth the price. I bought five more and will look more often on Amazon for my orthodontic supplies!
