Fresh & Effective - Plus A Tip About Fluoride For You

I'm happy enough with this toothpaste that I order it on regular basis here at Amazon, albeit from a different supplier. It tastes excellent and leaves my mouth feeling totally fresh and clean. A big bonus for me is the absence of sodium laureth sulfate, a foaming agent and known irritant. This chemical is not, according to major toxicological studies, carcinogenic itself, but is sometimes contaminated with 1,4 dioxane which is. So I'm pleased this toothpaste helps me to avoid SLS. Tea Tree oil is a natural product with antibacterial properties and has (to me anyway) a pleasant but quite sharp aroma and I wondered if this paste might taste slightly medicinal, but it doesn't. Interestingly I see that another reviewer mentioned she switched to this product as standard paste hurt her tongue. I can report a reverse finding in that my wife suffers sometimes from geographic tongue and this paste stings her mouth whilst bog standard high street stuff doesn't. I guess everyone is individual and you won't know until you try.
I've always felt slightly wary of switching away from fluoride toothpaste. I vehemently oppose the fluoridation of drinking water on the basis that it constitutes mass medication without consent - however, scientific evidence is pretty clear that the uptake of fluoride ions by tooth enamel does provide definite protection against decay. Oral health has significantly improved since the introduction of fluoride in toothpaste as the statistics show. So, whilst I would like my teeth protected I would also like to avoid delivering fluoride to my stomach and the rest of my body! Well, my dentist provided the answer - a one off treatment with fluoride paste. It's a bit like a varnish that your dentist paints on after your teeth have been cleaned and polished in the surgery. It dries within a few minutes and delivers fluoride ions that migrate into your tooth enamel over the next few hours. After that the coating falls away when you brush your teeth in the evening. So my teeth now have all the fluoride they need plus I can happily use fluoride free toothpaste like this.
So in summary I'd happily recommend this toothpaste and I'm confident it cleans my mouth well. If you wish to avoid fluoride altogether it will work well for you, or if you still want that protection as a backstop then speak to your dentist about the treatment I mentioned earlier. In any case the avoidance of SLS is a bonus that makes using this toothpaste worthwhile on it's own, in my opinion. I'm very glad I tried it.
