Happy fingers, July 17, 2009

I have both the finger and thumb guard. I carve using pocket knives, and these have been really helpful. They do take some getting used to, but after I broke mine in the benefits outweighed the different feel. The guards are less about preventing cuts and more about preventing sore digits for me. I choke up on the blade of my knife for more leverage, and the index guard really prevents the soreness I usually have after a few hours. The thumb guard does prevent the little micro-cuts that happen at the end of a cut sometimes, but mainly it just protects from soreness that comes from pulling on cuts toward the thumb. The guards seem designed for hands that are meatier than mine, but they are still pretty comfortable and the elastic keeps them on pretty well. This is a surprisingly high quality product for this low price.

Don't Buy for a beginner, March 21, 2008
By Green Emmission

This is not a very good product for a beginner. It makes carving very cumbersome and will not provide much protection.
For the expert, you really don't need the protection.

These things have proved their value and protection several times over since I bought them. Wouldn't work around craft knives without them. Almost overnight shipping too!

a must have, December 22, 2008

I have just begun woodcarving and was guided to purchasing this finger guard. A very wise suggestion. Shipping was pricey compared to the 1.50 item but there was nowhere close to me to buy it. I would still shop here but with more in my order to make the shipping worthwhile.

Finger Guards, January 9, 2010

I bought these for my husband for Christmas because he was cutting pieces of gauze and putting on his fingers to protect them when using the scroll saw. He loves these, so much easier to use and not dangerous. Wonderful gift for the woodworker in your life.

A must have, January 4, 2009

This gaurd is a must have for any carver. Cutting yourself is easy when you have sharp tools. If you are like me it will hurt your pride as much as your hands. Buy a few, the price is very good.

This finger guard works very well, the only problem I had was it was made for a man. I had to get my sewing machine out and make it smaller. Needs to come in S M L.

Eh..., September 17, 2010
By John

I would have been better off starting off just wearing a full leather glove. I got a little careless while carving and cut across the top of my finger and had to stop carving for a couple days. I really don't use this anymore. Luckily, it was cheap. In its defense, it protected the part of my finger that it was supposed to protect ;)

Not What You Think!!!, August 5, 2011
By John Belliveau (WORCESTER, MA, US)

Instead of using this for woodcarving, I use it for Surfcasting. I get longer casts because it pads my finger so I dont get the "burning" I get when I don't use it.

Knuckles Bleed No More !!, December 25, 2011
By PicOlio.com (Franktown, CO USA)
|
|
I have ordered both the thumb guard and the finger guard. I'm a female with fairly small hands and found the thumb guard a bit too big so it doesn't stay on my thumb. HOWEVER, I LOVE the finger guard and the thumb guard worn 'backwards' on two of my fingers when carving. They have both proven extremely useful in saving my knuckles as I often rub across the wood I am carving. I plan to purchase more of the finger guards just to have extras for this reason. There are many 'make shift' solutions for finger guards so these are not a requirement.. but these are high quality and far more effective imho. For the price you simply can't go wrong. I was pleasantly surprised to see the material used.

My own finger guard, November 3, 2011
By author of Finding Sanctuary, .. (Virginia)
|
|
I mostly use pocket knives for whittling and carving, and that small blade digs into my finger after a while. Now I've got my finger guard for protection and padding. It works great. It's comfortable. And it sure beats wearing a full glove. Get one. It helps.
