Product Description:
Built with all the urban sensibilities of the Metropolis but with a few less frills, the new Citi delivers midrange features at a base-model price. From the ErgoDial fit system for easy sizing adjustments to the durability of Fusion In-Mold construction, the Citi delivers like a bike messenger in traffic. Includes Blade visor, easy-adjust Cam-lock levers, air-moving Channeled Ventilation and the option of adding a Flip Mirror.
Built with urban sensibilities in mind, the Bell Citi Life and Style Bike Helmet delivers midrange features at a base-model price. This life and style-bike helmet is constructed with a fusion in-mold microshell, which utilizes the process of bonding the helmet's microshell to its EPS foam layer, rather than forming the two separately and taping them together later, to provide a sturdier, more solid helmet. This helmet features Bell's ErgoDial fit system to deliver an easy one-hand adjustment with the press of a button and slide of the dial for a firm, snug and comfortable stability.

The Citi also features a removable blade visor, and cam-lock levers that make it easy to adjust the straps around your ears. For your comfort, this bicycle helmet includes 16 channeled vents that are specially designed to force cool, fresh air in through the front and around your head, while flushing warm air out of the rear ports. The Citi helmet comes in Bell's Universal Adult size (54-61cm), weighs 290 grams, and complies with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's safety standards for bicycle helmets.

Helmet Tips--You Should Always...

  • Wear a helmet when you ride
  • Wear your helmet low in the front to protect the forehead
  • Fasten your buckle and tighten your chin strap
  • Check your adjustments every time you wear your helmet
  • Inspect your helmet regularly for signs of wear or damage
  • Wear a helmet designed for your activity

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Helmet, Great Price, November 19, 2006
By Shannon Baker (San Diego, CA)
I bought this helmet 2 months ago and it is great. This is the first helmet I have ever worn and was skeptical about wearing one. After wearing it bike riding for 2 months, I would never ride without one again. It is very lightweight. It fits perfectly. I didn't even have to adjust the straps. The cooling vents work well at least at the moderate temperatures in San Diego. The main reason I bought this helmet was that it was one of the few helmets recommended by Consumer Reports along with the Bell Slant and the Schwinn Intercept.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Exactly what I wanted -- but not too stylish, July 14, 2007
By Reluctant Shopper (Pittsburgh, PA United States)
Saw that this was the highest rated helmet on some of the websites so I picked it up. This helmet is designed for people with 55-61 CM heads. My head is 59.25 cm, so I was a bit worried about fit because I'm on the high end of the scale. But the helmet fits perfectly and is very comfortable. I don't even notice that I'm wearing it. It's also extremely solid and feels very durable compared to the other helmets I've worn.

On the downside, I look pretty goofy when I'm wearing it. That's not a big deal to me -- if my head is safe, I'm happy. But if style is important to you, I'd at least consider a racing helmet instead of this commuter helmet. Imagine yourself wearing a doubly-thick baseball helmet that's had the ear protection removed. That's how this looks.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Hey! It's a helmet, January 10, 2007
By ttfn...Alan (Albuquerque, NM United States)
Okay, I could go into how I think the areo-dynamic helmet is NOT going to help the average-joe (even though he may think so), nor will I go into how stupid I think those things look on average-joes (even though he may think he looks cool). I will go into what I think about my Bell Citi helmet.

It does exactly what I want it to do - give my spouse a sense of security while I'm on my commute to work. It was rather inexpensive. It's adjustable, so that it can fit on my head they way it's supposed to. Plus, it comes with some reflective stickers (great for my early morning commute), and the air vent help keep my head cooler during the summer (a very good thing here in Phoenix).

I know the visor is really a nose guard for when you fall (and yes, eventually you will fall!), but I wish it was also a sun visor (oh well, that's what sunglasses are for).

Other than that - This is a practical safety device! And unless you're Lance Armstrong (or equivalent person), go for the practical.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Fits great!, April 25, 2007
By Xersis (El Segundo, CA United States)
As soon as I put this on I knew I had found my helmet. Apparently this is the up and coming trend for style with bike helmets but I look like a mushroom head in everything. I still think the swept back/aerodynamic ones look a little cooler but I have read the bicycle safety sites as well as Consumer Reports reviews and they like the fact that this has "no snags". Makes sense to me so I bought it. Safety first!

I have a little bigger than average size head and after trying them on at an outdoors store I came here to buy it for less.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Fit, fashion, fentilation, err... ventilation, November 17, 2007
By reader and cook (Redmond, WA USA)
OK, so I cheated on the alliteration, but this is a fine helmet. The fit is great, very adjustable, easy to adjust, and continues to ride well after hours of wear. The fashion is right - subtle, simple, slick, not flashy but stylish enough. And the ventilation is what I need - full enough for a warm summer day doing a bit of uphill climbing. The brim works for those sunny days and is enough to deflect a bit of rain or wind. The strapping is comfortable and seems sturdy enough to do the job when called upon. All in all, it's a good price for a good solid product. I'll look for another one in a few years (I replace my helmets periodically to avoid breakdowns in the plastics.)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Thousands of miles with it, only helmet I'd buy now., January 21, 2010
By Scout (Providence, RI)
I'm a bicycle commuter, but much of my commuting begins with a plane flight. Been over a year I've had this girl and let me tell ya why it's the only helmet I'd buy now:
1. It's lived without a mark though plane flights, banging around on pack, stuffed in suitcase with my folding bike, accidental drops, etc. So A for durability. Yes, the plastic is fused to the styrofoam, plus the styrofoam doesn't crack off as many have done with one drop. Plastic covers it pretty low.
2. Just today I noticed the rear head size adjust mechanism is so easy I can even do it with gloves midride (had it larger to go over my hood until I warmed up and took hood off).
3. It's so comfortable just this morning I found myself searching for it, when duh, it was on my head.
4. The built in hi-viz and reflector tape are a must have for me, long before it helps protect my noggin in a crash, I'd prefer it help me *avoid* one. (get it in orange!)(also like the rear light strap)
5. Not too hot in summer, and as I said, easily adjusts to go over hood/hat in winter.

Folks have said it ain't too cool to look at. If you say so. Is that like how the weekend riders in full spandex are really cooler than the riders who are out every day? Whatever.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent Helmet, August 9, 2007
By James B. Falabella (USA)
I have been using the Bell citi helmet for about 1 month now and have found it to be very comfortable and secure fitting. Compared to my much older helmet, it is about 60% of the old helmet's weight.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Bell Citi Helmet Rocks !, November 4, 2008
By Due North Gallery (Ferndale, MI)
Bought this helmet based on previous reviews and Consumer Reports evaluations, and am very satisfied with it. Dollar for dollar, this helmet is a great value for those that are mainly concerned with keeping their brains intact in the case of an accident. You won't win any cyclist fashion contests wearing this one, but who cares ? It is light as a feather, well ventilated, and easily adjustable to fit your "grape". The only reason I did not rate it as five stars is because the chin straps that come down on both sides of the ears tend to "whistle" a bit in the wind as you ride..... not a huge complaint, but just enough to be noticeable, at least until you become accustomed to it. Overall, if you just need a well-constructed, highly rated helmet for general cycling and don't care if you look cool or not, you should get this helmet. Since I ride mostly late at night on city streets, I'm much more concerned with safety than looking good, so this was the best choice for me. Buy it, use it faithfully, and enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing your head is well protected !

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great helmet. Period., November 5, 2010
By spookie
My first helmet - purchased about a year ago - was a Bell Faction, which is a BMX-style helmet. I've always hated racer-type helmets that make you look like an alien, so I went that route when I suddenly became a newbie bicycle commuter.

That helmet was fine - it was simple, fit well, and gave me the look I wanted.

After a while, I began to realize that it was pretty heavy and hot - basically no ventilation - also the weird-ish padding inside was starting to fall off. I still don't like the racer helmets, so I did a little research and found this little gem for the sweet spot between road racers and mountain bikers/BMX-ers. Definitely lighter, more aerodynamic, better cooling vents, and it does look great, I think.

The comment about it looking like a baseball helmet is way off - this person clearly has never worn a helmet before. The Bell Faction - now that's a baseball helmet. (Since this is now my 2nd helmet, clearly I'm an expert now :-) ) This helmet is WAY less bulky than the Faction, although, yes, I'm sure it is probably a little larger than a racer helmet.

Also, contrary to some comments, the bill on the front is ***NOT*** for forehead protection -- that's just silly. Its function is to block sun and rain - and it works pretty well, too. Just slip it a tad more forward than you would normally wear it when riding into the sun or rain, and it'll keep you from being blinded, and keeps rain off your glasses, too. GREAT feature. With my old Faction helmet I used to wear a baseball cap beneath my helmet for the same reason - no need for that any more.

On hot days, the vents are great. Yeah, a racing helmet has more vents. They're also a little silly looking and generally way more expensive. Now that it's November, it's getting a little colder, but I just wear a skull cap or knit cap underneath, and it keeps my head warm.

I was a little worried about the one-size-fits-all thing, but the helmet is attached to your head by a suspension of plastic webbing that expands and contracts by adjusting a dial (like most hardhats, if you know what that's like), so it fits great (I do have a medium sized head, though), and if I wear a knit cap underneath, I just open it up a little, and it fits great then, too.

The matte gray is really attractive. I don't know if it's reflective (since it's on my head I can't see it), but it does have a great slot on the back for your blinky light - great safety feature - I just keep my light there 100% of the time now.

What can I say, I really like this helmet!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great helmet, April 18, 2010
By Still Greek to Me (Southern CA)
The safety yellow is a great color for a wonderful helmet. Buy it and let the cars SEE you! Are you afraid to be seen? In Yellow? OH, it isn't cool? I cycle over 6,000 miles a year, still even race a little. I've bot very EXPENSIVE Giro helments. This one is just as good, but with the benefit that especially when I'm on my recumbent bike cars can SEE my YELLOW bean moving along down below them. I had a good friend taken out by a car last year, off his bike for over a month. You don't want this. Forget trying to look cool, rather wear something cars can SEE you in. Then surprise all those "cool" looking cyclists as you zoom past them wearing this neat bright yellow beanie.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works for Me, August 2, 2009
By jim (Houston)
At age 74 I've never owned a bicycle helmet before, so I can't do a comparison. People wearing them look so foolish I wasn't going to get one but wife and friends kept nagging me. I got this one because it had a top rating in Consumer Reports and didn't look as dorky as the multi-colored ones with the pointy rear end. That is, it's minimal dorky for these dorky things. I've been using it for about a month (I ride every day). It's so comfortable ten seconds after I put it on I forget it's there.

The cam snap buckles make the chin strap easy to adjust, but the reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because the left one has come open twice. I didn't know when it happened and only noticed it when taking the helmet off and realized the adjustment on that side was loose.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Citi helmet does the job well and doesn't look bad either..., June 19, 2008
By Authority on all things Cool (Kansas, USA)
The Bell Citi has not only passed all bike helmet impact tests with flying colors, but doesn't have the spine-like protrusions on the back which can snag on the pavement if you get hit and cause neck injury. The smooth, rounded, stylish back-end is an ideal shape for a bike helmet. It looks so retro-mod to me, like a 1960's Motorcycle or scooter helmet - stylized for bicycle riders.

I feel good and really quite slick in this helmet, also 14 large vents keep my head cool but don't compromise structural integrity like some more expensive bike helmets. More than 14 vents is probably superfluous to most people anyway. Unless your a cyclist that is a racer you don't need an aerodynamic helmet. The neligible difference it would make at normal speeds isn't worth the extra cash. The Bell Citi only gets four stars because the ear-straps are scratchy, a minor annoyance rather than a detractor. Buy the Citi, it is the best helmet I have owned thus far.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Possibly saved my life, December 10, 2010
By Craig S. Prior
[Edit] About 2 weeks ago I crashed the bicycle and hit my head. In spite of wearing the helmet I was knocked unconscious and taken to a hospital. The helmet was split. Cat scans showed subdural hematoma, bleeding from the interior of the brain, indicating I smacked my head with considerable force.

I have the helmet to thank for this accident not being a whole lot worse. A neurologist commented that if it weren't for the helmet I might have been killed. This helmet did its job. I don't think there's any higher recommendation that that.

[Original review] I like this helmet. I got the one in "glow-in-the-dark" "titanium." After a few months of riding in the sun, though, the green has completely faded to white. Isn't that strange?

I haven't tested to see if it still glows in the dark... but no matter. It does what I need it to do. Very comfortable helmet. Easy to adjust.

This is a "helmet for the rest of us"... those of us who like to ride but don't want to look like racers. After all, not every ride needs to be a sporting event. Sometimes you only need to go to the store or to work. Or go bike camping. In fact those things describe ALL my riding.

Long live Citi Helmet!!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, November 18, 2010
By Jill Robbins (MEMPHIS, TN, US)
I love this helmet. It's comfortable and easy to adjust. I love that it allows me to make it bigger to slip over my ponytail and then tighten it back up once the ponytail is in place. It's super handy for the girl that doesn't want the low ponytail that sits on your neck and keeps you hot. I have a ton of hair and love being able to wear a helmet AND get my hair off my neck.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great fit, July 28, 2009
By T. Machesney (New Haven, CT)
Let me start off by saying that I'm a casual bike rider and have not owned many helmets. The last one I owned was simply the one offered at the shop that I bought my bike at that fit. So when I noticed that the pads had completely deteriorated and the outer shell had a small crack I went looking online for a quick replacement. I thought I would opt for the cheapest one I could find but after reading reviews I picked this one. I'm so glad I did, it's so much more comfortable than I thought a bike helmet could be and very easy to adjust for a good fit. Well worth the money!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  good value, good price, great looks, May 29, 2009
By JPV (NJ)
good value and price, great looks compared with some of the other freaky, multi-colored helmets. seriously, they don't look good. you have to really want some attention i guess but then again, the hard core NYC bikers are all about flash. For me, give me a 10 mile country ride on my mountain bike and i'm fine with this helmet.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent commuter helmet, April 24, 2009
By Commuter (South central PA)
I got this helmet specifically to use for commuting to work and back (approximately 10 miles each way) and I chose the yellow color for visibility. I've used it for about a month and so far I am very pleased with it. The retention system is quite easy to adjust for a snug and comfortable fit with or without a balaclava. It seems like an excellent helmet overall, and fortunately I haven't crash tested it yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Happy with Helmet, February 23, 2009
By Dawna Irish (Northern California)
This is a great value for the price. I too purchased a black one because it was lower in price and free shipping. Fits so well I hardly know it is there except for the wind noise. For some reason it is really noisy compared to the last helmet I had and when I turn my head left or right, or tip the helmet up, the noise is greatly reduced. It becomes annoying as I love quiet rides along my country roads. I wonder if it is just this particular one or if I don't have the fit right. Will have to do some experimenting. Other than that, I think I made a good choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great helmut for visibility/commuting, December 4, 2008
By Green Yogini (Redondo Beach, CA USA)
This helmut is especially great for commuters. As a commuter, you need a little more coverage, in case it rains. Additionally, there is rear loop on this helmut, where you can put a rear flasher. I find this especially important because it brings the level of the rear light up to the eye level of drivers - in case they don't notice the rear light on your bike. Finally, I also use a visor light on this helmut. The soft silicon pad on the visor helps to keep the visor light from slipping. You always want to be seen, especially if you do your commuting after the sun goes down.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  crash worthy, November 23, 2008
By London cyclist
This helmet fits me well and offers good protection. I'm on my second one. The first saved my forehead/nose/teeth once when I landed face first; I had a dent on the front of the helmet combined with mild bruising on my chin and chest. A poor fitting helmet would have simply been pushed out of the way.

Style-wise, I like that it does not try and look like something that a racer would wear, or go the other way and try to look too alternative. I mean, I doubt you will receive compliments but there is something to be said for understated design.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Satisfied - not ecstatic, September 5, 2010
By bikerboy (Lebanon, PA, US)
I bought this helmet primarily because it offered a visor and an attachment for a light. It works well, better than the helmet it replaced, but the visor still allows much light to get in my face (eyes) and the light bracket allows the light to be bumped out of the bracket during handling. I have a small head and the straps barely adjust enough to keep the helmet on snuggly.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  so far so good, June 19, 2008
By bookworm (Philly)
I have only worn this helmet a few times, but it fits well and is pretty comfortable. It was a great bargain and I got the silver which looks great. It's definitely not a swoopy looking helmet, but I think all of them look goofy so I am not bothered by the way it looks. the only complaint is that when I try to pull the strap in the back down to make it more comfortable, I hit the adjusting wheel and have to tighten it again. However, I think that's because I'm still used to my old helmet that had a different mechanism in the back.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I love the Citi, June 16, 2008
By Adam C. Treen (Fort Riley, KS)
This is the second Citi helmet I have owned. I still have the first one, but I bought two more so the whole family had nice, slim helmets.

This helmet has every feature you need, including a cool ratchet wheel adjuster in the back. My son is 9, and I have a big head, and the same helmet adjusts to fit us both.

Slim, low profile, clean lines, plenty of vents and optional add-ons (mirror, winter kit). Great design by Bell!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Helmet!!!, June 30, 2007
By WEG (Washington DC)
I can't say too much about this helmet in that
I have not been in a "bike" accident ever before
or since buying this (and hope that I don't get
into one either); but, it fits really well, and I did
my research b4 I bought it to see which helmet
has (or had) the best rating in crash tests, and
this be it (well, the "citi" series)!!!

This is not one of the "really cool" looking helmets
that I see a lot of "bikers" around town using or
wearing, and I sort of look like a "geek" with it
on, but it surrounds my whole head, so I feel
confident should I ever get hit by a car, another
biker, if a pedestrian walks into me or my path, or
I crash out myself, that my whole head will be
protected...

Not much else I can say about this in like I said,
I have not been in an accident with it or before,
and I am not "dummy crash testing" them - yipes.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great helmet. Little pricy for its purpose though., January 25, 2008
By N. Davis
It does what it says it will do I guess. I haven't really "Tried it out" yet. But wearing it is not a pain. It is very comfortable and has really good air flow to my head to help keep me cool. I saw that this is the top rated bike helmet in consumer reports as well which is another plus. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  The fit is awful, August 31, 2009
By F. Boyle
This helmet at first glance looks like a great value until... you try to put it on, if you have a head that's bigger than, say, a peanut. "Universal Sizing" is NOT universal in the case of this awfully designed product. Don't buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect, July 10, 2011
By Ken
I am an avid bike rider. I road and mountain bike. I have purchased 4 bell helmets including a ballistic downhill helmet. I have purchased 3 Citi helmets. The first was years ago when they first came out. Consumer Reports loved it. It was $50 bucks. I wore it out and purchase another for $40 bucks that I had for years. I crashed on the concrete with it on last year and hit the back of my head really hard on the cement. That helmet saved my life. I bought a third for $35 bucks. For the money this is the best there is. The fit, style, and color choices are unmatched. There a tons of helmets like Giro that are really expensive but will not protect you any better. I ride $3000.00 bikes so I can afford more expensive helmets. I just buy the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It fits and it doesn't annoy me! HUZZAH!, November 11, 2010
By Stella N. (Inglewood)
Boy oh boy. Finding a helmet that fits, has tolerable aesthetic, and doesn't have many annoyances is tedious. This helmet fits perfectly. I did try it on at REI,inc. before buying it and the very awesome associate told me about how some companies mold the foam to fit certain heads. Bell, in this case, gears towards the rounded head. I have a rounded head it fits. I like that it can accommodate pony tails and the straps are flush against my face. Previously, i had a giro helmet, it was not kind to my head, but it was forgiving in space. This helmet would not work if you are planning to have a style and are leaning towards end of the sizing scale for it. i am definitely considering getting the mirror to attach to it since i have the option. i made the decision to make it even more visible by adding more reflective tape, i appreciate that it has some reflective tape already on it. if you wish to do so make sure the tape is proven to not affect the helmet.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Helmet, just what I needed, October 1, 2010
By J (NYC)
I took some time before buying this helmet, wanting to read reviews and see what my options were. The Bell Citi Bike Helmet was a good choice. I did not want an awkward looking aerodynamic thing, just something functional, comfortable and normal looking. The Citi Bike Helmet is actually a fairly standard looking helmet, with an added visor on the front that functions a little. I got the Matte Pewter-colored style (mainly because it was less expensive than other colors).

Most important: its fits me well. It is also very light weight. I measured my head with a tape measure before ordering it, so I knew I was likely to fit into it. Take the time to make sure the helmet you want will accommodate the size of your head. Now I'm off to biking.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Fit !, September 14, 2010
By Tightwad (Henry, Il United States)
I've been wearing a Bell Ukon I bought in 2004 that was fine but was always a little tight. The Citi is so much better a fit that it's a delight to wear compared to my old Ukon helmet !! Can I recommend it......you bet !! Also the Citi doesn't make me look like a geek like the Ukon does with that swoopy rear of the helmet. IMO the Citi is the only bike helmet that is for mature adults in the way it looks when worn.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great fit and look, November 11, 2009
By RRR (Los Angeles, USA)
I have a Bell helmet that I could not get to fit correctly and I didn't like the pointed back style of the helmet. I found this helmet and ordered it due to the adjustable fit and rounded back style. I have a large size head and the helmet adjusted and fit perfectly. I'm afraid if my head were bigger it wouldn't have fit. Aside from that, it's a great looking helmet and well made. To put things in perspective, I typically wear a size large to XL motorcycle helmet.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  good buy, October 8, 2009
By Thomas Measday
A very nice helmet. Feels sturdy. Yellow color plus built in reflectors a real safety advantage.Fits well. Easily adjust. I ride year round and it quickly switches sizes to fit over my head with or without a wool cap on. Price was half of others I looked at with same consumer Reports safety rating. Will probably bye a second to keep one at another biking location

I really like this helmet, it fits well (and is adjustable) and looks good on. I really like the charcoal fabric edition, it looks less helmety and more of an accessory. The sun visor is removable.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent helmet for the price, January 30, 2009
By cychotic (Orange County, CA)
I purchased this helmet because it received excellent reviews and the price was right. The helmet fits comfortably and the dial adjustment is perfect for making adjustments once the helmet is on your head. I purchased it in bright yellow for visibility when on streets. All in all a great purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Bell Helmuts, April 3, 2011
By biker
I purchased two of these; one for my spouse and one for me. We bought the mirrors that attach to the sunvisor separately. The helmut and mirror seemed like good product with Consumer Reports approval as a best buy; the firmly attached mirror was also an excellent idea especially if you have tried other helmut-mirror attachments. Within two weeks the device that tightens the helmut to make it fit had broken on one helmut. The mirror is very small; it is satisfactory but does not provide a very clear image. Fortunately (or not) cars and trucks are big enough to be seen easily in the mirror. Most of all, the mirror stays put and seldom gets bumped so that constant relocating is not much of a problem.

I hate bike helmets this one is great. You don't look like your related to an alian. I got the one with fabric so it looks more like a hat.

The fact it has a high safety rating is even better.

I have a really cool comfort bike and now a cool bike helmet too!

Love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Sell should have told me, October 3, 2008
By get home alive
Nothing about this helmet that I don't like. I bought it based on safety reviews. Might have bought the safety yellow but found black on Amazon at a great price and free shipping. What's not to like? 1 thing. I was sold a 2007 helmet and that fact was not disclosed by the seller. Am not sure what might have changed in a year and I might have bought anyway. Am I sending it back over this? No. None the less, I should have been told. I have not had the helment long enought to go more than 4 stars. I give the seller 3 stars. Good price, fast delivery, arrived in good condition, but should have disclosed this was last year's closeout.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Not for a smaller head :(, September 5, 2011
By QuebraRegra (Nottingham Maryland)
Had to return the helmet, but wanted to share some details for the prospective online purchaser.

I love the shape and look of this helmet, but it is NOT designed for a smaller head (one size does NOT fit all). Unfortunately my head seems to run a bit on the small size, and no amount of adjustment could make this work (not to mention I looked like a mushroom head from Mario brothers). Even with the tightest strap and dial adjustment, this helmet slides around on my head too much to provide proper protection.

Again, I love the general look, and the GLOW colour is great, but the fit just didn't work. Also the photo for the GLO colour shows screening in the front vents, but the actual helmet did not have this (different from appearance in the photo).

I ended up getting a SCHWINN "URBAN" helmet to replace this, as the fit was better for my smaller mellon.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Livesaver, August 21, 2011
By wfiveash
I was riding my bicycle on a residential road when I was hit from behind by a car going about 35 MPH. I was told later by the driver that I went over the hood and into his windshield which broke when I hit it. He told me they found bits of my Bell Citi helmet in the windshield when it was taken out by the repair shop. I still have the helmet and I can see where the rear part of the helmet was impacted. It did a great job of absorbing the impact and saving me from serious brain trauma (note, I did suffer a concussion and blacked out for a bit but the CAT scan showed no serious brain injury and I was released to go home the next morning). I will absolutely be buying another Bell Citi.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Bell Citi Bike Helmet, August 21, 2011
By Jay
This is an excellent helmet and a great value. The fit system works very well, and this allows the helmet to fit whether or not I am wearing a hat. The yellow color and built in reflective tape allows me to be visible during my commute. Another nice feature is the built in strap on the back of the helmet to which one can attach a taillight . The round shape will prevent snags and possible neck injuries, though I hope I never need to use that feature. This is an excellent helmet and a great value.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Saved my life, July 30, 2011
By Ronaelle Carlson
I have owned this helmet for a few years and loved the very lightweight fit. I didn't wear helmets in the past, because they were so heavy and felt uncomfortable. This is the best I have found for barely noticing I have one on. I always wear my helmet since I bought this one. I took a bad fall on my bike yesterday, and the hospital doctor said the helmet saved my life. The foam on the inside absorbed the impact and saved my skull. I am online right now buying another one! Thank you Bell for making a reasonably priced, lightweight and life-saving product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Visible and comfortable, July 1, 2011
By P. Wolf
Not being able to find a yellow, bike helmet at local bike stores, I went shopping on Amazon. The reviews for this and reference to the Consumer Report convinced me to try it. Indeed, it is light & comfortable although it took me awhile to get the chin strap adjusted. While not quite as yellow as I had hoped, it is yellow enough, more so than anything else I have seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Yellow Bell Citi Helmet, June 14, 2011
By achat
I'm a bike commuter and this helmet definitely suits my needs. I chose the yellow because it was on sale at the time, but also because I think it's more noticeable. It matches my yellow Novara jacket perfectly, which isn't quite hi-vis yellow, but a little brighter than it looks in the picture. There's reflective tape on the front (where it looks white in the picture) and I really like the spot in the back that you can easily attach a light to. I have a small head so I almost had to return it, but it fits on the smallest setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best Helmet for the money, May 18, 2011

This helmet is cheap, fits well, doesn't look dorky, has a visor, and has a dial to fit even better. I've been using mine for a couple years and I figure it's time to replace it. I've looked around but this is definitely my favorite helmet, so I'm getting another one. My friend is also getting one after being dissatisfied with a more expensive pro-tec helmet. Buy it!

Good fit/comfort level and price. Not bad looking either. A bit disappointed with overspill of interior padding through style/vent openings on helmet. But this can be overlooked if one is not too critical. Will give five stars rating after I strike head on pavement and live to tell about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best bike helmet I've owned and a good value, September 30, 2010
By E. Carbone (United States)
This helmet is not the bottom of the line, $17 discount helmet, but you also don't have to sink $50+ in it as you would for one of the more "fashionable" racing helmets. This is a great helmet for all sorts of casual riding. Unless you are a professional racer and need a truly aerodynamic helmet, you don't need the expensive models. However, in the category that counts the most -- safety -- this was the top rated helmet by a noted consumer magazine. I think it looks good in a retro sort of way, it's comfortable, the vents allow air flow, and it's easy to get it adjusted for a good fit. I got the black one, but they appear to have several colors/patterns. Great helmet overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  finally a non dorky helmet, September 11, 2010
By Joe Stalin (New Mexico)
Very comfortable, good fit and adjust-ability and good looking, not silly or dorky like most bike helmets. The front visor is nice and functional. Best of all its not aerodynamic. No pointy back to make me look like I am wearing a football on my head. I rarely get over 15 mph and I feel like a complete geek wearing a racing style helmet.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  doesn't fit me right :(, July 2, 2010
By Kate
I just got this helmet in the mail, and it just won't fit me correctly, no matter how I adjust the straps. If I try to roll it off my head (as suggested by the instructions) it rolls right off the back. I was so looking forward to wearing this helmet after years of wearing really ugly ones.... oh well, time to start looking again.
The helmet is well made and I love the bright yellow color. The fit problem is clearly not a defect, rather just the way my particular head interacts with the helmet :)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Overpriced but a great product, May 14, 2010
By Maureen Sill (Chicago, IL)
This helmet is a really great product. It fits snug on most heads, like a helmet should. The product is constructed sturdily and I've had it for a few months now and it has served me well. The helmet is also comfortable and the visor clip is easily removable, which is a nice feature.

This helmet was pretty expensive for what I was looking for, but I got it anyway because of such good reviews. Can't put a price on safety, right? I'd recommend this helmet to other commuter bikers.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Relective Material is Sloppy, January 17, 2010
By BikeRiderInTC
I like the helmet color. Actually, I had emailed a request to Bell/Giro this previous summer to create a helmet in the hi-vis green that has become so popular in recent years. While they did get back to me on another matter, they never did notify me that this color was now available in the Citi helmet. I found it accidentally while surfing the web.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Adjusting to the Citi helmet, September 9, 2009
By Eddie (Sunnyvale, CA USA)
After my old faithful Bell bike helmet saved my head from a flip-over fall, I bought the Bell Citi universal helmet as a replacement. I wasn't fully convinced that a universal fit would work, but it does. Adjusting the straps to fit was easy enough when following the instructions. I found it necessary to read the instructions with the helmet at hand due to all the models covered by one set of 'universal' instructions.

The fit is great, totally comfortable and secure. While I may not go any faster, I do look good!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Yellow Helmet, October 29, 2011
By Daily rider
This helmet was just what I was looking for, yellow with a visor.
Bell has a excellent reputation and helmet was good value for the money.
Helmet was easy to adjust my only gripe would be that the side straps don't lay flat and is slightly bothersome to my ear. after a minute or so I don't notice it. This may fix itself in time as I wear the helmet more

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Comfortable, October 6, 2011
By L. B. (WI United States)
Very lightweight and comfortable. The adjustment headband dial works well, once you get the hang of it. The straps are the "Y" design and adjust fairly easy thanks to the quick adjustment locks. It got a little warm while riding in 70 degree weather, but not too hot. The quick adjustment dial came in handy when I wore a skull cap underneath it in 40 degree weather. It looks a little like a hard hat with holes and sits higher on the head than I expected. The visor looks bigger in the picture, but when I have it on, I can just barely see the tip when I look up. Overall, this is a good helmet for someone who doesn't want to spend too much or look like an spaceship landed on your head.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  More Than Happy, September 25, 2011
By Andy Nowak
I was reluctant to wear a helmet, until I found the Bell Citi on Amazon. The reviews are positive so I bought one. It is so comfortable I don't hardly know I am wearing it. The cooling effect is unbelievable I think it keeps my head cooler than not wearing anything. The cool air seems to be like little cooling fans all over my head. It is almost hard to believe or explain. Buy one and you will not regret.

This is a well made helmet. Adjustments are easy and don.t need readjustments each time. It's light and has a lot of well place air vent to keep your head cool (in Florida that's very important). Has style. Not as dorky looking as other helmets. Well Pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A comfortable helmet, January 7, 2012
By buy american (usa)
I purchased 2 of these due to the high consumer reports rating. It is not the most fashionable type helmet out there, but the fit is excellent on both my wife as well as myself. She has a much smaller sized head than I, but there are adjustments for around the ear clearance as well as the standard chin strap length and the quick adjuster on the back for the radius of your head is a pleasure to use as well. It is light and very comfortable to wear and I highly recommend this if you are more interested in saftey and comfort instead of high style with less protection.
