5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great purchase!, May 12, 2007
By Nancy B. (Hilton Head Island, SC)
Purchased this bag with the matching rack for our second bike, so now both my my husband and I both have one. We enjoy riding long distance charity road rides, and this set-up is perfect: take extra energy bars, ibuprofen, another T-shirt, or stash extra clothing. At home, my husband will make a run to the grocery store on his mountain bike, slip the bag off his rack, and pack it up in the store, slip it back on outside, and away he goes. It can be switched from bike to bike easily enough, and you look nice enough that we've been asked where we got ours. Like I said, the fact that we're on our 2nd rack and bag should be proof enough that this is a winning combo.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Bike Trunk, August 2, 2006
By Liz Belden Handler (Syracuse, NY)
This trunk bag works SO well! I commute by bike, and this bag is so easy on and off. It holds all of my "stuff" and lunch besides. Great design, roomier than it looks, and good looking besides-it's perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Topeak MTX Trunk Bag EX, June 16, 2008
By kateling (Port Huron, MI USA)
I ordered this bag the same day I ordered the Topeak Explorer Rack. I bought an entry-level Schwinn this spring in the face of $4 a gallon gas. I use my bike to commute (4 miles round trip), run errands around town (most everything within 7 miles one way), and short day rides. I would probably go with a bigger bag if I was doing longer trips. I like the zippered mesh pockets on the outside for things like granola bars, my poncho, and tools. The inside can fit a couple of books, an extra bottle of water, a towel, and my camera for a joy ride or a change of clothes and a pair of shoes for work. I wouldn't really expect to get $50 worth of groceries in it, but I have picked up the odd handful of items no problem. I detached the bag and carried it right into the store and didn't even have to bother with a plastic bag. It is not noticeable as far as weight, but I have not really pushed the 55 pound limit for the rack. A nice bag for the beginner, but more serious riders may want more.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Well made but is part of a system.., January 16, 2007
By Robert (Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada)
I guess I did not read the description...an adapter is required to PROPERLY use this. I will either buy the special adapter or adapt it to my bike rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bike bag but read below before buying, July 21, 2007
By E. Goff
This bike bag is used with their bike rack. So you really do need to buy both. What a great idea....a bike rack with a track that this bike bag slides onto. Great design and holds a lot of stuff. I keep my lock, tools, water bottle, sun screen inside. It does the job and more than I expected. Also priced right.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Quality, Function, Looks., January 6, 2009
By TerryK (Mobile, AL)

Impressive quality and good looking but a tad bit smaller than I thought it would be. I'm keeping it though as I can fit everything that I will generally need to bring with me for trail rides. I bought it to go with the "Topeak Explorer Bike Rack" as it is a system and the bag slides and latches directly onto the rail built into the rack. Very nice.

For comparisons sake here's what I fit into the bag: Two 1/2L bottles of water, keys, extra t-shirt and lightweight shorts, gloves, baseball cap (collapsed), small tool kit, sunglasses, bug spray & sunblock (small travel bottles), mini u-lock & cable and the shoulder strap that is included with the bag. In the mesh side pockets I keep my tire pump, a couple of energy bars and a bag of beef jerky. And even with all that there is still a little room left over plus you can strap items to the top and sides utilizing the bungee and velcro straps provided.

All in all a very nice bag/rack system that I would heartily recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bag for slide mount lovers, April 13, 2008
By Gary Jenkins (Naperville, IL USA)
I already had an MTX slide mount and an MTX DXP trunk bag. I got the DXP bag for when I need to carry lots of stuff, and wanted a smaller bag for shorter trips where storage needs were less. So I ordered EX trunk bag and it's perfect. It's quick to insert and secure onto the rack, and quick to detach. And even though it's smaller than my DXP it's still pretty roomy. Another quality product from Topeak.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect bag for day trips., July 3, 2010
By Scott
I was looking for a bag that would work with my TopPeak Rack, that would not kill my budget and that would hold enough stuff for a day trip. This bag has performed as advertised and has met my excpectations. The TopPeak rack system is so easy to use, no bunge cords or straps just slide in and click. It is large enough to fit 6 12oz cans or 16 Oz plastic bottles ( like gatorade bottles ) 3 or 4 sandwiches and an extra shirt and shorts. There are zipped mesh sides for small stuff. perfect for going on a day trip. Not meant for multiday touring trips, Top Peak makes bigger trunkmout bags with and with out side compartments for that purpose. I compared other bags ( toppeak and non toppeak) and although they looked big in the pictures you really need to pay attention to the Cu. in. spec's of the bag. This bag is actually 20% larger than another I looked at even though the ad pictures made the smaller one look bigger. For the price, quality and function this is a very good deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  works great for me, May 17, 2010
By dana
I've just reviewed the rack that i use this bag with (Topeak Explorer Bike Rack), and much of what i wrote there also applies to the bag, so i'll repeat a few things here (parts i've copied have an asterisk):

Just to start off, i should say that i am not really a 'hardcore' cyclist. If you're the kind of person who can put an entire bike together from memory, or the kind of person who commutes every day on a 900$ road bike and always wears spandex, your level of commitment and bicycle knowledge is probably years ahead of mine. I know enough to be able to name all the parts on my bike and do light maintenance, but i don't ride every single day, i don't tour, and i find road bikes kind of intimidating.*

That said, i like this bag a lot so far. The fabric and construction seem pretty high-quality and the whole thing feels very sturdy. There are reflecting stripes on the back for visibility, a weave of cord to hold irregularly shaped items on top of the bag, a shoulder strap, and a carrying handle. There is a mesh zip-up pocket on each side, the under-side of the lid has its own pocket, and then of course there's the large inner pocket. There are no built-in compartments, but the bag is roughly rectangular, so you could easily create your own.

As far as how the bag attaches to the rack (see link above): There is a 'foot' on the bottom of the bag that slides into the rails on the bike rack, which holds the bag down and prevents it from moving side to side. Then there is a clip on the front of the bag that clamps down on the bar at the front end of the rack, which keeps it from sliding off the back. It seems very secure and there is almost zero movement.*

My only complaint about the bag would be that it's not quite large enough to carry my purse or my netbook. But this is not really the bag's fault. Topeak make larger versions, including some with panniers, so i could have gone with them if i really wanted. But i'm cheap. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice bag for MTX racks, November 29, 2008
By C. Schenker (PA)
I didn't realize how convenient the MTX system was going to be. This bag easily and securely attaches to my MTX rack. While it's not big enough to hold clothes, it's perfect for transporting smaller items like a bike lock, tools, a lunch, wallet, and a few other small items. If you're not trying to transport clothes, it's perfect; otherwise, I'd recommend going with an MTX bag with side panniers for the extra storage. Also, I'm not sure how well this would attach to non-MTX racks.

Topeak MTX Trunk Bag EX
I have used this bag for six months and am very happy with its use. It holds my cable lock, water bottle, and books. I use my bike for a short commute to work and around town. I also have the explorer rack by Topeak. I would recommend the rack and bag combination. They make a sturdy pair and the bag is easy to remove to carry into the house to pack a lunch for the next day at work. I have ridden a 26 mile bike trail and did not notice any problem with the extra weignt. The bag fits into the track of the explora rack and locks in place. A larger topeak bag could be purchased for extended travel and will also slide onto the rack. Topeak has designed a great product. The bag and rack came from Amazon in just a few days, as always I have been impressed by my purchases from Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  BE AWARE - this fits a specific bike rack, January 6, 2011
By FLDonna (Tampa, Florida USA)
This is a very nice, high quality bag but I had to retun it since it did not fit my bike rack. It has a special clip and plastic attachment on the bottom (non-removeable) to clip on to a specific bike rack (Topeak). I wish I had done more research because it was not clear in the description. I gave it 5 stars even tho I had to return it. I would have kept it in a heartbeat had it fit properly.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Sturdy and well made. Smaller than described., July 18, 2011
By J. Hazel (United States)
Be prepared for smaller than you think. A small neat "trunk" just a couple of inches bigger than a lunch box or six pack cooler.

It is a well made item but the dimensions are wrong. I measured: 6 1/2 width 7 1/4 max height 12"L for outside dimensions. The inside dimension are smaller than that do to the reinforcing padding. The "capacity" appears to be correct. I just expected bigger especially since I think more in measurements of dimensions than volume/capacity.

I have not tried it to see how well it snaps on and off the bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great little bag!, September 5, 2009
By Mr. Larry G. Jones (Palm Springs, CA)
Excellent, lightweight trunk. Holds more than you would think; easily slides on and off with single click if you have the Topeak trunk rack designed for this trunk. Am very happy with this addition to my bike gear. We often ride to a location for breakfast or lunch, and it is great to have this lightweight bag to carry your stuff in. I snap my helmet through the handle and off we go!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Practical bike carrier, October 13, 2008
By Richard E. HEDMAN
I was quickly attracted to this bike carrier set-up because of it's universialty! The spring clamp is practical for clampling on a can or bottle, etc. The quick attachment & disa-tachment of the bag is a pretty slick set-up. You can sling the bag over your shoulder if you need to clamp something under the spring clamp! And, of course you can easily carry the bag with you when you don't want to leave it with your bike. GOOD DESIGN! Dick Hedman, Sawyer, MI

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I don't go for long rides without it, August 22, 2011
By Neal
This bag is fantastic! What makes it so great is its size. I go for long weekend bikerides and I carry several things in this bag including a mini pump, replacement tire, tools, small first aid kit, wallet, keys, etc. I also carry some extra snacks and it all fits with room to spare. It's solidly built and I feel it is made to last. It has storage galore and extra pockets on the side. I don't go anywhere without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Does what it needs to., August 19, 2011
By Bob
I bike a lot and with the track system it makes it easy. This bag will hold 2 water canteens, a sandwich, a couple of cliff bars, a small bottle of Gatorade, a few thin ice packs and in the sides is where I keep my tools and bike cable and lock. It will hold a fair amount of stuff. I put a couple of ice packs in there to make sure my food stays cold. It appears to be lightly insulated and will do the job IF you put ice packs in there and ice cubs in the water canteens.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  'small' bag that carries more than you think, July 18, 2011
By SY (USA)
the 8L capacity of this trunk bag is not all that large; relatively narrow spacing of rear racks force this to some extent. It is nicely insulated however and can keep, say, an extra bottle of gatorade relatively cool for a couple hours.

What really makes this thing shine are the built-in bungies on the top. You can effectively double trunk space by fitting bulky items in these straps. Shoes, books, you name it, there's probably a way to snug it in there. This is such a good way of using the dead space above a rack bag (since it's right behind your torso it creates no drag either) that I wonder to myself why so few companies follow a similar design. For this price, it's hard to beat what this bag can do.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A great commuter bag, June 21, 2011
By Vol Fan (Virginia)
When I ordered this I somehow missed that it was meant to be used with the MTX track system. However, when the bag came, without the track system, it went on the existing bike cargo rack just fine. The 6 velcro straps anchor everything very securely, even on bumpy roads. The bag has been perfect for my commute and allows me to store shoes, lunch, lock/chain, and a few other small items. The side pockets are useful but I haven't needed them for anything other than a few small bungies. The elastic cords on the top of the bag are great for bulkier items and have held a small stack of library books with no problem. Because I don't have the track system to slide the bag off, I leave it on but find the zipper opening is ample and allows me easy access to my valuables. The only negative I've found is that the shape of the bag is not wonderful for groceries. A front mounted basket would be better. The quality of the Topeak MTX Trunk Bag EX is excellent and justifies the price. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect around-town bag, October 18, 2010
By M. Woollen (New York, NY)
I commute daily from Queens into Manhattan, and this is the bag that never leaves my bike...except when I have to park it outside in the city, and then it's a quick and easy removal with the MTX rack system. Holds a clean t-shirt, lunch, some bike tools, spare tube, loafers, a cheap plastic poncho, keys, phone, wallet - everything I want to have with me on a daily basis... and always seems to have a little extra room for things picked-up during the day - cat food, CDs, a book - so I never worry about bringing an extra bag. I wouldn't use this to haul groceries in, but for day-to-day commuting, it's great.

Pefection! Bag slides in/out of the Topeak rack system very smoothly and clicks when its locked in. Perfect size for a few groceries on the way home from the gym. Additional storage available using the bungee cords on top. And if I think I might need more space, I throw a non-bulky back-pack in the bottom that I can wear if necessary...like this Xterra mesh bag: http://www.xterragear.com/Mesh_Utility_Bag_p/9012.htm. Impress your friends with this great trunk bag!

Bought this item to go with the rack system. It has plenty of room to carry your lock, water, or whatever you don't want to hold in your hands. It easily slides on and off so you can take it with you wherever you go. Smaller than a back pack, bigger that a fanny pack. It really tied the bicycle together, I highly recommend this item.

I use this bag for daily commuting of about 20 miles. For perspective, it will comfortably hold a pair of men's size 9 shoes. I don't know why I say that other than I've needed to throw a pair of shoes in to change into after the ride. It can hold your bike necessities, like spare tubes, CO2 cartridge, cell phone, wallet, a Jacket, energy bars, etc. I do wish the manufacturers would find a way to line the inside of these bags with a color other than black, hey how about something bright so you don't have to dig around trying to find the lip balm. Overall it's very handy, a near perfect size for everyday use and I've forgotten all about those tiny under the seat wedge bags that hold nothing or the over the handlebar bags that get in the way of your bike computer. If you're going to be needing to carry clothes, a laptop or even a iPad, you need to move up the line to the models that have saddlebags. Oh, the zippered mesh bags on the sides of this bag are handy as is the bungee type cord on the lid so that you can carry that extra something with you. I've looked at a lot of the bags and the Topeak are the best I've come across. Though I seldom take it off the bicycle the easy mount slides and locks the bag in place . Nice touch.

Can hold a U lock plus the cable. Can hold a 6 pack can with 3 bags of ice gel. So, it's good to go to the beach and come back without DUI ;)

I ordered this item online and received it by noon the next day, from more than half way across the nation. The Topeak MTX Trunk Bag EX is very well designed and constructed. I'm impressed with the workmanship and attention to detail. The price was right from Amazon, and their service was incredible (next day delivery)
I highly recommend this fine product and Amazon's super service.
