2.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome design- Poor quality., July 13, 2009
By Timothy Germann (South Orange, NJ)
Handsome bag with some great convenient features such as the built in tool & patch kit, the integral rear light attachment, nighttime reflective strip and quick release fixer. The fixer however is the problem. It broke with almost no load on it 4 separate times. I had to keep replacing the fixer. It got to the point where I needed to keep a spare on me to repair on the road along with a philips head screw driver to remove the broken one and attach the new one. The guy at my bike shop told me they are constantly replacing fixers for this bag and recommends only using it in the warmest summer months when the plastic is not so brittle.
The zipper pull also broke off on its own, but I can still open and close the bag with my fingernail. If Topeak ever addresses the fixer problem or offers it with a Velcro strap option I would definitely recommend this bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome tool kit!, August 6, 2007
By later graduater (Wichita, KS)
It snaps off and on in seconds, it can hold two spare tubes in the lower compartment and still have room for a wallet and keys.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great customer service, October 26, 2007
By Dink
Not only is the pack great quality like everyone else is saying, but their customer service is great as well. I lost the connector for the pack (long story) and they replaced the part free of charge (they even covered shipping).

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Didn't work out for me, January 5, 2008
By M. Baxter (Mt. Pleasant, MI)
After about a year the bag kept falling off the mount and down onto the back wheel. Not useful for mountain biking! I'm now going to have to buy a different pack and throw this one away.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Topeak Survival Wedge, January 4, 2007

An excellent, small bag that allows you to carry a little bit more than the obligatory spare tire. Good design, excellent construction.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Good in Theory!!!, May 13, 2010
By nolesworld (Land O Lakes, FL USA)
I purchased this bike bag a few months ago along with a few friends. We quickly noticed issues with the zipper in the tool part of the bag. When riding moderately technical trails we noticed that each of our bags half way through the ride started dumping tools. So everytime we stopped you'd have to zip the bag up as the zipper would start to creep open. At this point, we've all lost about half our tools and the bag is now a running joke between us all. I would not buy this bag unless you are doing road or very lite trail riding. I engaged Topeak since we all had this problem and figured it was a known issue and got the response of "Thats a bit strange. I have never heard this issue before." with no action taken so far. So on top of the issue with the bag, questionable customer service by the manufacturer.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice tool kit - nice wedge pack - TONS OF VELCRO, September 8, 2009
By Amanda (Sacramento, CA United States)
This wedge has a quick release bracket that easily screws onto your seat. It also has two elastic straps on top for alternative attachments, I suppose. The back velcros onto the seat post (with a VERY long velcro strap).

Pros:
1) Tool pack - tools do not jumble around in the top with the insert, which uses velcro to fasten to the bottom of the wedge. I use that little fact to slip some money between the velcro holding it discreetly in place under the tool pack for emergencies.

2) Tool pack - tire levers work great, I am not convince about the patches, the multi tool fixer is fabulous and has several allen keys that work fabulously with my Specialized, which does not seem to believe in quick release anything. I used the fixer to install the wedge pack :-) - It has been more that sufficient for flats and minor adjustments.

3) Bottom compartment is large - has a series of two zippers to allow it to expand a bit. I have no problem fitting an extra tube, keys, and an iphone in there with room to spare (with both zippers zipped).

4) Tab to attach rear reflector or light.

5) Quick on, quick off with tab release

Cons:
1) The nature of the quick release bracket makes it hang lower that other wedge packs I have had. This could be a problem if you are not vertically gifted (e.g. short like me) and don't have a lot of space from seat to rear wheel.

2) Fixer itself is sturdy enough for light jobs, but doesn't appear up to much torque.

Bottom line: great deal, I would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Almost perfect., February 18, 2008
By Perry Dror (Asheville, NC)
This wedge pack is well designed and well put together. It has most of the tools one could anticipate needing in a pinch. The "almost perfect" is merely because the wrenches look like they might be a challenge to use against any really tight nuts or bolt heads. (They are a bit thin for getting a good grip on them.)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product!, February 8, 2008
By Andres E. Hernandez
I've had this saddle bag for a little over a month and have ridden pretty hard off road trails and the bag has stood up to wipeouts and bumps. Tools are included and are great. I can fit an extra tube, keys, wallet and cell phone in second pocket. Reflective tape makes for good rear indicator for on coming cars as well. A+ product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Bicycle Tool Kit, January 11, 2007
By Joanne (Orlando, FL)
I bought two of these kits as gifts for bicycle enthusiasts. They were both very happy with the item. The tools are of a sturdy quality and so is the bag. It has a large enough space to put keys, wallet, etc and has a reflective band on the back. I was very impressed with this item and its contents.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Organize lots of stuff, easy access, quick release, July 1, 2010
By Stephen Heitmann (Portland, OR)
This Topeak pack is great, because it has two separate compartments--one for essential tools; the other has plenty of room for a few more tools, some small parts, a tube, map, wallet, and cell phone; and, by removing the rain cover, effectively, a small third compartment becomes available for useful items. Plus, it's even easier to remove and reattach than Cannondale's T-clamp (mentioned below). The material is durable enough, I expect to get more than 15 years use before it starts to wear. Because I haven't had it long enough, I haven't experienced the breaking fixer problem so many report (at Amazon and elsewhere). I decided to buy it anyway because 1) the pack and fixer are both excellent designs, 2) the breakable fixer is its one and only flaw, imo, and 3) I can buy replacement fixers and keep one in the bag. HOWEVER, I must say that Topeak really ought to resolve this problem reported by so many! If nothing else, they could use metal for the fixer. Considering all the stuff I carry in this pack, the extra weight, if any, from metal would be insignificant. Considering the price of the pack, I suspect added manufacturing cost, if any, would also be insignificant.

Purchased 5/2010, this Topeak pack replaced a similarly designed Cannondale underseat pack I've used since 1992. The Cannondale had a quick release T-clamp for mounting under the seat--very convenient, and in 18 years of heavy use, in all weather, road & off-road vibration, the original T-clamp never broke. Maybe Topeak could use the same material for their fixer?

When the Cannondale pack started to wear-out a few years ago, all I could find were packs that attached with Velcro straps--even Cannondale thought this was an improvement for their current packs. But not for me, because I only take this pack on long rides when tools, spare tube, patches, etc. might be needed; otherwise, riding (and parking) around town just means another thing to remove so it won't be stolen by those !@#$%^&*() type of people. But even on long rides, I might park the bike while getting something to eat (or a cold beer), so easy removal and reattachment was important enough to me that I kept using the worn-out Cannondale pack for years until I discovered Topeak's pack.

I think Topeak's fixer attachment is a substantial improvement over the T-Clamp and superior to Velcro straps. So, it seems to me, especially given Topeak provides this fixer with many of their products, they could perfect this good idea by using a material that will last for a few decades, at least....

Sending suggestions to Topeak is really difficult, because they have no contact info on their site [...]. They have a parent company site [...] where you create an account and then open a trouble ticket. I'm going to use the ticket to express my thoughts above to improve the fixer.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Pack, April 26, 2009
By DJL
Just got the pack and it is great so far... had very little trouble fitting it under my seat, everything seems to be great quality, and in addition to the tools there is more than enough room for two tubes and keys (plus the compartment can be extended to hold even more!).

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice pack, may not fit your seat, June 30, 2008
By S. Halstead
This is a good pack and a good set of tools. The only problem I ran into was that the bracket would not fit my seat. When I contacted the company they had 'No solution'. I ended up using two wire ties, which in conjunction with the velcro seat post strap works OK.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Topeak Survival Tool- Great pack, not a guaranteed fit, June 5, 2008
By SB (NW)
This pack is great and seems to have everything you would need in a bind. However, in trying to install it on my bike, I found that my seat position does not allow me enough room for the pack to click into. The back of the clip attaches underneath the seat and the bag slides into the clip. Unfortunately, there is not enough distance of travel to get into the clip before hitting the seat post. Just something to keep in mind!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very Useful!, February 15, 2011
By Shopaholic Chick (Philippines)
I got this for my husband and he totally loves it! The size is perfect and it can carry his basic stuff when he goes biking. I also like the thought that it's not just a pouch to carry your stuff but it has the basic tools needed for a bike run (which some people usually forget). It is not bulky and looks good on the pole of your seat :)

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good tool/pack combo, October 20, 2010
By Mnt Man
purchased to replace an old wedge pack + i needed emergency tools. the plastic fixer could be a little better (it looks fragile)...BUT..it has held up very good for me so far. It has many of the essentail emergency repair tools you may need all packaged in a under seat pack with room to carry keys/cell or other small items. Was a worth the purchase if only just to get the tools.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Deal, July 30, 2010
By Maximus (Idaho)
I'm very satisfied with this purchase. I have a mountain bike that I've been needing to get a toolkit for. When I found this I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I'm so glad I did. The quick-release rail didn't quite fit on my seat but I was able to zip tie it on fast and easy like. Rides perfect and holds the tools great. My Co2 flat fixer fits in the bottom compartment great.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great wedge for a bike, July 2, 2010
By E. Noyer (Elk Grove, CA United States)
I purchased a wedge with my bike from the bikestore that wasn't anywhere as nice as this one for over $25. When I found this on I Amazon I immediatly sent the other wedge packing back to the store! The wedge is not overly huge, but I love the fact the tool kit is built in with foam to keep the tools from moving around and clanking during riding. The lower compartment is generous with a weather cover and it is expandable. The only item I would criticize if I had to choose something was that I wish the tool pack was in the lower compartment as I always unzip the wrong compartment. A single fold mens wallet fits, but it is very tight but I am knocking the product for that becasue the wallet size is my choice!

Great price, easy to detach and durable!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect all in one, June 27, 2010
By J (Philly, PA USA)
Bought this because I had to walk 3 miles home when I was stranded. Well haven't needed the tools for changing a tire yet, but the screwdriver kit, allen wrench set and chain link remover all seem durable. Plenty of room left over for my cell phone and wallet. I'm happy with this purchase. It's nice the tools don't jostle around when you're really pumping up those hills.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great, creative product, May 28, 2010
By N. Walter (United States)
I love the seperation of the tools and the molded padding to keep them all in place. It makes it so much more convenient, it also means you don't have to take up room in the main pack with a jumble of bulkly and awkwardly shaped tools.

The main compartment itself is large enough to hold an extra tube, a cell phone, a set of keys, the rain cover it comes with, and potentially one or two other items roughly the size of a cell phone. Or maybe two tubes and a cell phone, removing the rain cover would also gain you a little bit more storage space. There are also elastic straps on the bottom that you could secure something to.

As for the fixer, I haven't had this all that long but I really can't see how this would break. It seems to be pretty durable and thick plastic, if it breaks on me i'll be sure to update this and let people know. But for now I feel pretty confident about it.

For the zipper problem that others reported, I took this to heart and found a solution pretty quickly. There is a small fabric loop right between the two zippers, I took an extra twist tie i had around the house and ran it through this loop and both zippers so I shouldn't have to worry about it opening up. It may be a little inconvenient to take stuff in and out but it's worth the piece of mind knowing you stuff will stay. I took one star off because it seems to me they could have easily addressed this by stitching a piece of velcro or something accross the two zippers. Heck for a penny more they could have just included a twist tie or one of those nice reusable/releasable zip ties.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Had to make it fit, April 8, 2010
By Matt
The fixer didn't fit my aftermarket Schwinn seat, but after taking off the fixer I was able to run zip ties through holes and attach it to my seat that way. Not as convenient that way, but probably more durable and easier to replace than the fixer. Other than that the tool kit is a big help. Spoke tool is a big help as i've needed to adjust my spokes for years. nice to have a spot to put my keys and phone and maybe a spare tube.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Just what I was looking for. . ., January 21, 2010
By Phillip R. Semenick
I owned a smaller version of this product and it wore out. My local bike store no longer carried the product but a substitute which was far inferior. This is exactly what I wanted, the product arrived on time, was fairly priced and produced a pleasant experience.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Poor mounting design, May 8, 2010
By WrabbitWriter (Tustin, CA, US)
Nice tools, but the mounting design is poor. Not made for all bike seats.
Fits neither of my bikes because the mount (fixer) is not adjustable to
seat rails. It will only fit one configuration. How many seat designs are
there? Hundreds? Come on guys, even a WOMAN (me!) could have made
a better design! I'm now carrying the thing around in my bike basket!
Patooooy!
