Good seat, bad installation manual, January 26, 2009
By Robert Chien (San Mateo, CA United States)
|
|
I just installed this seat today and took my 3 year old out for a short test ride before it started raining. While I don't have experience with day-to-day usage yet, I would like to comment on the instruction manual for those parents considering this product and hopefully the manufacturer will read this, too. In short, the manual is unclear from step 1 onwards. There's no explanation of what a "seat stay" or a "braze-on" are, so if you're unfamiliar with these terms, you may have difficulty with installing this seat. More and bigger illustrations would be appreciated. It took me about 2 hours, mainly because I had to take the rear wheel of the bike off because there's not enough room between the smallest cog and the inside of the dropout. The manual also mentions a CG (Center of Gravity) hash mark that's supposed to help with alignment, but I couldn't find it.
One side note: I almost bought this seat from craigslist. "Almost" because the seller was honest enough to tell me that she doesn't have the installation manual anymore, and warned me about the installation difficulty.
I went to various bicycle shops to check out 3 different child seats (Limo, Taxi and one whose name I don't remember) and like this the most. Despite the comment above, which is just a one-time hassle, I still think this is among the best seat on the market. Time should tell whether it's worth the price. I also considered the iBert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle Seat, which I couldn't find in any local bike shop. One salesperson told me they don't carry that product because they feel front mounted seats are just not safe for children. Most accidents are head-on collision and children are better protected when they sit behind an adult.

Excellent product; only issue is shoddy screws, May 12, 2009
By Joel (PORT WASHINGTON, NY, United States)

I was given a bike seat as a hand-me-down (another brand..). Didn't like it due to safety reasons so I decided to research online the best child seat while also minding price as much as possible. I narrowed it down to this one seat.
PROS: 1. Very sturdy - seat mounts to a free mounting rack that is supplied. It fastens securely to the mount and is also tethered to the bicycle seat bar as well. Very smart idea. 2. Secures infant very well - your child is secured down by the ribbon that goes over their chest as well as the horizontal bar that further secures them in the seat. There are even velcro ties if you want to tie down their feet if need be. 3. Free bike rack! 4. Interior of seat is very well cushioned for easy riding for your child. 5. Literally seconds to remove the seat. Don't be concerned it requires a few steps to accomplish this. 6. The seat is quite high - so as to keep your child safe while riding. 7. Middle of the road price.
CONS: 1. Shoddy supplied screws. They easily will strip if you are not careful. I actually discarded mine and used some other ones that I had that worked (same thread and length). 2. Instruction manual leaves a lot to be desired.
IN SUMMARY: If you are looking for a seat that is safe and secure, not too costly and is great looking then I highly recommend this child bicycle seat.

great seat for a large child, May 1, 2006
By Fisher Man (New Jersey)
|
|
We got this for our three year old, who is 35 pounds. He fits in it with room to spare. It reclines backwards to allow him even more room between him and his mom, who rides with him. The feet strap in so they don't get caught in the spokes. The sides and back have openings which allow our son to look all around him. This is our first bike seat, and it wasn't cheap, but it is really, really nice.

My son enjoys riding within the carrier and I feel that he is safe within it. It is easy to install, easily detaches from the bike, and is sturdy. I would recommend using a helmet that is flat on the back for toddlers.

Firsthand account of just how SAFE this keeps your child!, November 10, 2009
By Tough Mommy (Wellsville, NY)
|
|
Today, after clipping a bush on a bumpy sidewalk, I lost balance and my bike fell on it's side with me on it and my 13 mos old in the Co-Pilot. I struggled to gain balance, but couldn't and took the brunt of the fall on my knee and my poor twisted back. After a panic, I jumped up and quickly assessed my toddlers condition. There she sat snuggly in the Co-Pilot, with her pink bunny Giro Infant Helmet (which I also highly recommend) without a clue that anything was wrong. The seat's lap bar and harness held her in place and not a single inch of her came near the pavement. Thank God! She just looked at me like I was crazy. LOL!
So despite a funky installation manual and some tweaking to accommodate the bike I had, this product is worth every penny. Its' comfy, quality, safety and ease of use are worth 5 stars. I hope no one else has to learn that the way I did though! Ha.

Great Seat, Bad Instructions, Doesn't work with all bikes, August 18, 2009
By B. Davies
|
|
I bought the CoPilot Limo after spending hours and days researching both front mounted and rear mounted bike seats. Once it arrived I was so excited for my husband and I to take our daughter on her first bike ride. However after spending some time trying to figure out the instructions we began to think the seat was not compatible with my husbands bike. After calling the 800 customer service number our fears were confirmed. I was quickly told that if our bike had a quick release seat and/or a rear suspension the seat would not be able to be mounted. My husband's bike has both. My complaint is....it would have been nice to know this BEFORE I purchased the seat. I did not see this information disclosed anywhere, maybe I missed it. It's probably a wonderful bike seat, but we wouldn't know since we are not able to use it.

Safe in a crash, March 21, 2010
By Galileo (Philadelphia, PA)
|
|
We've had this seat for a while. I always thought it was a good product until today. Now I think its a great product. After about 10 miles of cycling today, the rear wheel on my bike dislodged (no idea how it got loose) and the frame and derailer came down on the spokes. It felt like the back wheel had seized but it was partly sideways and I couldnt control the bike. So we hit the ground. I immediately turned around to see my four year old sitting quite unperturbed in the back. The combination of the seat belt, the guard and the sides of the bike seat, coupled with the helmet meant that everything worked as it should and she didnt have a scratch.
Our bike is junk -but Im keeping the seat!
Any complaints? - its small but I find the velcro foot restraints very annoying to get on/off. And there is a thumb-trapping danger when removing the seat, which I do a lot as we take the bikes on the car to go to fun destinations.

Worthless, useless, horrible installation manual, February 23, 2011
By Brian Moeskau (Austin, TX)
|
|
It earns 1 star because my daughter has at least enjoyed sitting in the seat on the ground, in the living room, while I've been cursing at this inane manual. I have not actually achieved anything close to installation of this seat, and I'm not too hopeful at the moment. It astounds me that in the age of the Internet, graphic design, information design, etc. that any company can build a (seemingly) quality product and accompany it with such a disastrous instructional manual. And I've installed IKEA, so I know crappy instructions! Seriously folks. How about a couple of photos of actually installing it on, you know, a bike? How about a website with a video or two? How about a definition of the parts that are included and what the hell they are for? The instructions for installing it are literally not much more than "Step 1: Install it onto your bike". I'm not kidding, it's that bad.
If anyone at the company reads this, just consider that while my daughter is literally in the other room wearing her new bike helmet in anticipation of the ride that we're *not* about to take, I am so pissed that I dropped what I was doing to sit at the computer and give this product this review. That's how bad your instructions are. Might want to think about that.

Nice seat - really hard to install, August 19, 2008
By Sonja (East Coast, USA)
|
|
I have this seat as well as the iBert (front mounted) bike seat. One of the big pros of this seat is that I feel it's a little safer because of the high back and sides. (knock on wood) I've never been in an accident or had the bike fall with one of my girls on the bike, but if we were, I feel that they would be fairly well protected. Another pro is the fairly high weight limit (40 pounds) and that it is very roomy. My 3 year old fits in it with no problem. I will say that we removed the adjustable feet height thingies because with them in, there wasn't enough width in the space for their shoes.
The biggest downside of this seat is the installation. It is a big pain. On the upside, the rack that the seat snaps into can be used for other things once you're done with the seat. Another upside is that if you have multiple bikes, you can install the rack on each of them, and pop the seat from one bike to another with no problem. For instance, in a two parent household where each parent has a bike. But that rack is a nightmare to install. It took me multiple hours to get it on the first bike. The second went slightly faster because I'd done it once, but since it was a different bike, it had some different issues, and it was still over an hour to get it on, plus I had to get extenders for the metal brackets, which my neighbor also had to do with one of his installs, each of which was lengthy, too. So definitely set aside some time for this install. In other words, don't tell your kid, "Oh, the bike seat is here! Let me put it on real quick and we'll go for a bike ride!"
All of that being said, it is a nice seat, and we like it, and I'd have no problem recommending it to anyone.

Very good child seat!, April 26, 2007
By tina (Denmark)
|
|
I bought it a couple of months ago. I have 2 kids and I take my 2-year son to the day care every day. I ride with the 2 kids (a 10-month daughter also) in a hanger one way, leave one kid and the hanger and ride back home with the little one. It's very easy to adjust/switch the harness from one kid to the other, it only takes 1min. The back-rest can be inclined -true but I wouldn't suggest it for kids more than 12kg maybe.. It'd rest all the weight in the back and makes riding a bit harder.
We live in Denmark and in the winter when heavy shoes are required we could use a little more space in the foot rests. However, I give it 5 stars!

Perfect Protection, August 14, 2009
By PissyKrissy (Atlanta, GA)

I bought this for our seven month old... We put it on the back of my Trek mountain bike and hit some nicely paved greenways. I pop this seat on and off, as needed. She buckles in well... but like any product of this nature, you have to fiddle with it to get good. The seat harness dimensions... you have to tighten for your little one. And you get better at all the nuances... My child really enjoys this seat.
I know that she is safe back there. I feel comfortable, knowing that even in a fall... she is very secure.
I would recommend getting a rear view mirror, to see her expressions and ensure she is okay.
And a cargo net to hook a bunch of baby junk to the back of the seat...
As well as a great helmet... I bought the Giro Me2 Infant helmet
And you are ready to go...

Great Seat for the Price, October 28, 2008
By Malukey's Mom (NJ, USA)
|
|
We purchased this seat for my 13 month old, who is a little small for his size. That said, he fits great in this seat. He is able to see over the sides and appears comfortable on fairly long rides (as he has fallen asleep on many occasions). It is definitely a plus that the seat reclines for better positioning depending upon if he is sleeping or awake. Also he can rest his head comfortably with his helmet on. Since the seat attaches to a bike rack this fits excellent on my husband's Trek bike. Initially, we had purchased a more expensive seat that did not require a bike rack but it did not fit on his bike because of the angle of his frame. The only reason I did not give this a 5 star rating is because the foot rest is a little flimsy and the bolt on the back (where you adjust the height of the footrest) came loose and fell off during a bike ride from my son moving his feet while strapped in. The other reason is no storage...there are other seats that provided some storage for essential baby items :o)

Great Seat!, September 23, 2006
By Mom of Four (1 human, 3 canine) (Northern VA)

We have this seat on our bicycle and the grandparent's bicycle and love it. I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 only b/c we have had to make a few very minor modifications each time we installed it. On the grandparents bike we had to bend a piece of metal (this may have been designed to be bent as needed though). On our bike we had to take a hack saw and cut off the very tip of 4 thin bars. Not difficult and didn't compromise the safety of the seat in the least. I'd say overall the seat has many great features, is easy to install comparatively, and our toddler finds it to be a comfortable ride.

Rack doesn't fit all bikes, September 2, 2009
By Lisa Jones (San Francisco, CA USA)
|
|
The Blackburn rack that comes with this seat doesn't fit all bikes. Neither of our commuter bikes worked with the rack. I called CoPilot and their customer service person was extremely rude and unhelpful. Our local bike shop said that people often have to buy longer length stays to get the rack to fit. While it is understandable that it would be difficult to make a one-size-fits-all rack, it would have been nice to know the models of bikes with which this rack would fit.
I hope to be able to provide a more positive review and info about a workaround when we get this sorted out.

CoPilot Limo Bicycle Child Seat This seat was great... while it lasted. The rear security catch snapped off after just 18 months, which is not what I expected considering the cost. I don't think the design is great to have a flexible piece of plastic taking a lot of force. If I was buying again I'd look for something cheaper and simpler.

WARNING: a child can undo rear safety latch when you're not looking, August 17, 2010
By K. Specter (Brooklyn, NY)
|
|
This has been a great seat until today, when it flew off my bike while I was riding. Luckily, my son only got a bump on his forehead (where his helmet wasn't covering), and he wasn't hit by a car (which could have happened). I've inspected the seat since, and everything looks good on it..... the only thing that could have happened (since I installed it perfectly this morning) is that either my son or another kid took off the rear safety latch when I wasn't looking.
But, the good news is that the seat protected him from the fall, except for his forehead... maybe that should be a plus when buying this item... it does roll across pavement with a certain amount of safety. But it probably won't protect the kid from a car crash.
The take-home message is that any potential buyer should ALWAYS check all the connections before EVERY ride. If you do that, this should be a good seat worth buying. But I had to put the 3-stars in because there wasn't such a warning that this latch is so easy for kids to undo! Otherwise, I would give this 4 1/2 stars, since it's a great seat.
Good luck riding with your kids.

Very easy to use, July 30, 2009
By AL MN (Minneapolis United States)

My almost two year old loves riding in this seat.
General info about bike seats
I agonized over the trailer vs. mounted bike seat choice, and now I'm glad I chose the seat. With the bike seat, my son and I are able to talk about what we see as we ride along together.
It took a couple of outings before I was fully comfortable with loading and unloading my 30 lb. son by myself and the different handling when he was behind me, but now it's all good.
Info about this product
After reading about others' complaints about frustrations with installing the rack, I paid my local bike shop $15 to install the bike rack.
The seat goes on and off the bike rack very easily, in just a few seconds. This is a great product for people who plan to install and remove the seat frequently.
My son seems to find the seat comfortable - no complaints even on rides over an hour.

No problems, July 4, 2009
By PayingC (Washington DC)

We gave this seat to our son-in-law for his birthday so he could go riding with his two-year-old. SIL had no difficulty with attaching the seat to his bike (unlike some reviewers). The seat was very lightweight compared to ones we used a generation ago. The grandson, who barely tolerates a carseat, loved being in this seat and fought when he had to get out. I can't give 5 stars because I'm not the one using the seat, so I have to have a little wiggle room.

Great seat, better than the standard taxi seat., April 27, 2009
By Bay Wiz (SF, CA)
|

I consider myself fairly handy with tools, but installing this seat was much harder than I thought. The mediocre instructions are the culprit.
Once I did install it, all the trouble was worth it as it is very sturdy and keeps my son safely secured. I was going to buy the slightly lower price model, but the extra features of this one really make a difference. The higher side protection and the bar protector really keep him in place even when he gets squirmy in an area where I can't pull over right away.
I bought this during winter so it's only now that I've been able to take it for a spin a few times. Just remember to adjust how you ride to compensate for the extra weight in the back. Basically if you stand to pedal, lean forward more than you normally would.

Safe and secure, June 3, 2008
By lleeggss (Orlando, FL USA)

This seat is easy to slip on and off and seems very comfortable for my 9 month old son. I love the fact that my husband can take a turn riding with him (with an additional rack purchased seperately). He always falls asleep when we go on a ride! The seat makes it easy to ride with him in tow, you hardly notice the additional weight. It is easy to load him onto the back while holding the bike. I like the easy to use strap and the safety bar that lowers in front of him. It also keeps him far enough behind me to keep him from messing with me when we are on our ride. It easily allows for his helmet too. I can't think of any complaints...

A great seat that works perfectly for us., September 20, 2010
By Traecy (Rocklin, CA US)

|
My husband and I both use this seat for our almost 2 year old son. Had no problem with the install but hubby is very handy & mechanically inclined. We bought multiple racks and put them on each of our single bikes (including one recumbent) and another on our tandem, so we can quickly plop the seat on any bike. We got fancy and custom painted ours black to match my cool Electra city bike. He adores riding around town in it, and I have dropped over 20 pounds, which was helped by my ability to exercise and keep him involved & happy at the same time. He has been using this since he was 1 year and about 23 lbs, and we have a long way to reach the max of 40 lb. I am guessing he will be riding his own bike before he gets too big. What else to say? We love it and don't have any negatives about it (OK except I wish it were black and not ugly grey because my paint job is starting to rub off in a few spots!)

Great seat--we love it. Just make sure your bike has the appropriate braze-ons for intstalling a rear rack. I had to get a new bike because mine didn't. Two different bike shops told me it's not safe to use an adaptor to install the seat--you need the factory installed braze-ons!

Sturdy and secure bike seat, March 21, 2010
By P. Jones (MA, USA)
|
|
The good news.
The seat is great - my 25lb 11mo fits well, and apart from him not being keen on his helmet, he happily hung out in the seat on his first ride, singing away to himself.
It fits securely to the rack, and while I was able to do it on my own, I'd prefer a second body to hold onto the bike while I'm clicking things into place.
Everything is adjustable, and it'll get a good fit for most kids.
Long term, this will be a great addition to our family, and we're looking forward to enjoying it all summer for the next year or two.
The bad news.
The instruction manual, as others have noted, isn't very clear - but take things slow and it should be ok.
The real kicker for me were the cruddy bolts it shipped with. I stripped several trying to install this. My bike had no clearance between the bottom cog on my gears and the head of the bolt holding the rack on (I went with the bolt head on the inside of the frame for the lowest profile fit - still no joy) - and in trying to remove it, I stripped bolts. I almost had to drill one back out after the threads screwed themselves off.
But I was able to do it eventually - DO NOT over tighten, or you will be stuck.

When I was getting off the bike, my foot got caught and my then 10-month-old and I toppled over. She was fine, the seat took the impact of the fall. She absolutely loves riding in the seat. The seat must be comfortable because she often falls asleep (helmet and all). The seat and foot straps keep her moving too much so she doesn't shift the bike.
I highly recommend the Limo for a younger toddler. It safe and easy to use.

Love it. Had it professionally installed as it needed special piece not included. My 27 month old loves it. He is comfortable and happy in it. Does not interfere with his helmet. I know that was an issue with some other brands and models.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to spend time with their kid and have fun.

great child seat, October 31, 2009
By FlowerChild~FreeBird (washington)

this is a great buy!
there is a lot of protection for the child's head and sides incase of a fall.
the front bar is great to have, although it's not secure so the child (if old enough) will have no problem pulling it up.
the pads on the sides aren't very secure either and although they stay in place because of their stiffness, my daughter likes to pull them off from the sides.
it does recline and this is nice because if it didn't i doubt i would like it. we keep it in the reclined position always.
it is very easy to install onto the bike rack and also easy to take off. it is also very secure!
it is very light weight and can easily be carried with one hand.
the seat belt is not as secure as i would like. probably because of it's small width. there are 3(?) adjustment holes for it. when we got it our daughter was about 1, and if i remember correctly, we had to put the adjustment to the highest level. our daughter is a tall girl, but not that tall.
it is much sturdier than the cheaper child's bike seats you can buy at like walmart and like i said, much more protection around the head and sides! for your childs safety, this is worth the price.
this is a great buy. our daughter is 2 and she still fits very easily in it. we'll be using this for all of our kids, as long as it holds up, which i'm sure it will :)

copilot limo bike seat, June 1, 2009

I love this bike seat. The seat reclines so my son does not have to sit up so straight. I like that the seat has foot rests so he has a place to rest his feet, and has strap to tie his feet so he is not kicking me in the back. The armrest for him is also a nice feature. I did not have any problems with it going over his head even with his bike helmet on.

Careful!! Does NOT work for all Bicycles even though the packaging says it does., August 29, 2010
By M. Kester

This seat works great once installed. It is very comfortable for the child (my 2 year old fell asleep in it on the first trip out). Very secure with harness, foot straps and a pull down horizontal bar that then locks in place so I felt very comfortable with it. Balance is good. Rode 10 miles first trip out and had no problems.
Buyer Beware!!!! My one complaint has to do with the included bike rack. If you have a mountain bike with disc brakes and quick release, it simply doesn't work!!! I only found this out after receiving the item and realizing there is no way for the Blackburn Expedition Plus rack included to be installed. After doing some additional research on the problem I found that Blackburn now sells a different version of their rack (look for Blackburn rack for Disc Brakes) that is meant for bikes with disc brakes but that is not what is included in the co-pilot box. So, I was able to purchase the modified rack on dentalBookshop for $60 and at least get the seat installed but I feel cheated in that I feel like I paid twice for a rack for the seat (assuming the price of the seat would be less if it didn't include the rack). It would be especially useful for the co-pilot people to make it very clear their included rack doesn't work with all bikes but their box actually says ""Seat and Rack works with virtually all Bicycles""!!!! Talk about false adverstising. Very disappointed in this aspect of the seat but the seat itself is great.

Love, Love, Love!, September 13, 2011

I love the Co-Pilot Limo seat!
My 11 month old loves it too! She walks and weighs 20lb.
First off this bike did NOT fit my mountain bike with y-frame and full suspension and its not made for it. I traded my bike for a light weight road bike frame and its awesome!
Other people that arent familiar with braze-ons and etc just take it to a bike shop have them slap it on. Cost around $10.
The seat is a breaze to slide on and off, after the rack is installed of course.
It does shift the center of gravity so if you are not a strong rider just get a trailer.
Great and sturdy seat.

Not hard to install!, September 2, 2011
By lhc
|
|
I'm a small woman and I did it in 30 minutes with a toddler running around me. All you have to do is install the bike rack (a normal rack), then slide the seat onto the rack. However, it is not "tool free" as the instruction book claims. To properly install the rack, you need an alan wrench (like the kind you get in ikea packages) to turn the bolt and a little monkey wrench to hold the nut.
You can get both of these at any hardware store.
It looks safe and my daughter (who screams every time she goes in a car seat) enjoyed her first test-ride yesterday. I appreciate the high sides (which would protect her head if we fell, and also lets her rest her head to go to sleep on a normal ride) and the thickly padded seat. Also, the harness looks strong and secure. I have it on the lowest setting for my 30" daughter and it fits perfectly, looks like she will be able to be in this seat for a long time. I don't want to take the seat off the bike, so for my peace of my mind I put small zip-ties around the safety latches.
I didn't want a front-mounted seat because (a) I have a road bike with drop handles and (b) I didn't like the thought of my daughter's face being the front end of the bicycle, given how many bike accidents involve bikes crashing into things ahead of them.
BUT I was surprised at how difficult it was to ride with her in this. I've often carried heavy loads in bike paniers, but those are lower to the ground, while this seat is up in the air. Just like the booklet said, I had to practice riding around with the seat first, then practice riding with my daughter in it for an hour in a safe place. I think I'm going to practice a lot this labor day weekend before I try doing our commute in it.
Remember to go SLOOOW and not try weaving around obstacles.

Great seat for the price, August 19, 2011
By 300wsm

I have been using the CoPilot for about two months now and have gone on 20 or so bike rides with it. My two year old son absolutely loves riding in it and prefers it over our bike trailer. The seat has a good design and I really like the harness system in it. I purchased an extra rack for my wife's bike and switching the seat over is really quick and simple.
Some things to be prepared for:
My wife and I both have mountain bikes and the mounts that are coming off of the rear did not exist on either side, but there was a center screw on the bar that I was able to use, it just required I run to Home Depot and purchase a screw that would fit. My first attempt at getting a screw failed so I just rode the bike over there and went through all their screws until I found one that worked.
Also during mounting our mountain bike seat sit lower so extending to the rear fork to mount the rack below the seat also took some modifying. I basically just had to bend some metal to make the extensions longer. This took a little time as I wanted to make sure it was strong and safe.
One last thing, depending on how far back the seat rides on your bike, if your child has large feet, as you petal the back of your thighs will hit her feet even with them strapped in.
Final Thought:
Ultimately I believe the issues I had with the mounting would be the same issues I would have with any other model since that is the nature of having a rear child seat. I really like the design and safety in this design and would purchase it again in a heartbeat.

CoPilot Limo Child Seat, July 26, 2011
By David_in_GA
|
|
Put the seat on a mountain bike after reading reviews and looking at several models, as I was not sure how it would work. My son is two and about 26lbs. The seat arrived quickly, as ordered, and at a great price. I am mechanically competent, so did not expect much issue installing. That being said, it was a challenge, but eventually went on and works great. The instructions are adequate, but not great. After installinging the top of the bracket, you move to installing the bottom. Only then do you learn that it is likely the wheel will need to come off to complete the assembly due to the gears impacting installation of the bolt. Additionally, the upper brackets needed to be modified a bit, but not a complete surprise as I was putting it on a mountain bike. Now that it is on, it is easy to use and the kid loves it. With that much more weight set as far back as it is, the steering is a bit squirly, but not terrible. Given the seat reclines, we can take longer rides and the little guy gets to enjoy the ride and a nap (great for both of us). I 100% recommend the seat, but only gave it a rating of 4 due to installation. Along my travels, I have met others with the same seat and same story. If you are not comfortable with tools, get the seat and have a bike shop or other install the bracket. Then enjoy. Best part is I get my exercise and he loves going.

Great seat - Only one complaint, June 20, 2011
By C. Rachel Martin (NASHVILLE, TN, US)
|
|
this is a great seat. My daughter really loves it and actually fell asleep on her first ride. I have only one complaint. Maybe it has to do with the way our bike is designed, but the bar (the red part which pivots open and closed) hits the back of the bike seat and makes it difficult to open and close. We have to squeeze it with a lot of force to get it to clear the bicycle seat. Other than that, this seat is great! I love that it reclines - otherwise I feel like she'd be slammed up against my husband's back when they're riding. Glad we bought it.

Works well, June 19, 2011
By Lucas Scharf (Urbana, IL)

This seat works well with my Trek 7200 hybrid commuter bike. My kid loves it!
I've posted a couple of pictures showing how to properly attach the seat. There are some subtleties to securing the seat to the rack, so some attention to detail is required, but it's very secure. Installing the rack (included) on the bike requires some basic bike-mechanical skills -- lots of reviews have complained about the installation instructions, but if you're have any experience working on bikes, installing the rack and seat will be easy. If you don't have any experience working on bikes, this isn't the place to start learning by trial and error -- just hire a competent local bike shop and have them do it for you.
My only complaint about this seat is that there just isn't enough room for me to ride with my 17-month old son *and* the bookbag that I take to work on my Trek 7200. My bike just isn't long enough. This limits the seat's utility just to trips to the park and to joyriding around the block. That's fine for now, and I'm just happy that my son is excited about being out on two wheels -- but I'll need to do something different if I want start taking my son to daycare via bike.

Great child seat, June 4, 2011

This seat is wonderful, it easily reclines back and legs adjust. There is a lot of padding for comfort. Installing was a little tricky as it didn't fit perfectly on my bike, however I took it to a local bike shop and they were able to instal it in 10 minutes, it just needed longer metal brackets. Great seat!

I have used at least 10 different bike seats over the years (I have a lot of nieces and nephews!), and this one is by far my favorite. It feels so much more protective than other seats, and my child absolutely loves it. That being said, I couldn't install it on my own bicycle - we had to put it on my husband's bike instead. Make sure you purchase this seat from a place that accepts returns in case you run into a similar problem. Even with the installation difficulties, I would highly recommend it!

Bought a second one for autistic grandchild., May 28, 2011
By Debbie

|
We had originally bought this seat last year for our then three-year-old grandchild, who is now 4 years old. She fits in it nicely with plenty of room to spare and loves riding in it. We decided to buy a second one this year for our autistic three-year-old granddaughter. This granddaughter had trouble riding on the back of our bikes for any length of time in her previous bicycle seat. Since we have gotten her this seat, she loves to ride on our bikes without any complaints. In fact, she will fuss when we stop riding. This seat is very sturdy and extremely comfortable and safe. It is well worth the money. We have not been disappointed. My husband installed both seats without any problems. My bike is an old-fashioned style with the white wall tires and big fenders. My husband's bike is the 10-speed kind. Both went on without any problems.

Very happy with the seat. I like the recline feature and how it snaps onto the supplied rack. Installation couldn't have been easier with it bolting directly to the bikes frame. They also supplied clamps in case your frame didn't have threaded lugs on the stays.

Great purchase!, May 11, 2010
By DadofOne (VA)

We purchased the seat for our 17 month old. We are not avid bikers, but like to ride our bikes and take him to the park. It took a little bit of figuring out to get the rack mounted properly, but it didn't seem to be too much of a hassle. From the handful of times we've used it so far, we love it and he loves it! It seems sturdy and safe, and we like having him close behind us. The only negative for him goes along with using a seat instead of a trailer: he sits pretty close to our backs and therefore can't see out further (particularly if we have a backpack on). However, he doesn't seem to mind and often asks to go for a bike ride. We bought through Amazon and were extremely pleased with how quickly it arrived to us! (ordered it in the afternoon, chose 3-5 day delivery, and it arrived the next morning before 9:00)

So far so good, May 11, 2012
By alden

I just finished my first ride with my 18 month old in this seat with a Giro Me2 helmet. I had the bike store install this bike seat for me and given the other reviews I am glad that I did. Therefore, I cannot comment on installation in detail. That said, it was put on a very small old Trek mountain bike that I have and the mechanic mentioned he was going to have to make a few alterations to get it on there. I think the rack is best left to the experts to mount... My child happily got in the seat and not so happily had her helmet put on her and off we went. I did not secure her feet tightly in the straps and by the end of the ride she was kicking me in the bum and laughing as she did. She seemed to enjoy herself and she definitely looked safe and cozy. It seems most complaints about this seat are about the installation so why not bike to your local store and have them install it! It seems like I saved tons of time and frustration doing so. I love that the seat can pop off when not in use. It comes on and off really easily and yet still seems to be on quite securely. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I have only been on one ride and cannot therefore comment on durability of the product in any way.

Excellent product! Great way for my little girl and I to spend some quality time outdoors. We can even run a few errands the "green" way and she has a blast at the same time. Have had the item for about a year now, and I have no complaints. Very sturdy seat, these bike seats have come a long way as far as safety since I used to ride with my own mom on her bike. Love it!!!

Great Bike Seat, Trek Navigator fitting information, January 28, 2012
By jplun
|
|
This is a great bike seat, my son loves going to bike rides, he is strapped in and comfortable. It is a little bit awkward riding the first time with so much weight in back, but you will get used to it quickly. I like that the seat is easily removable, and this kind of seat is much more city friendly than a trailer.
I've got a trek Navigator 1.0, 21 inch frame and it fits wonderfully. Unfortunately my wife has a Navigator 1.0, 14.5 inch frame and the blackburn bike rack that it mounts on won't fit due to the compressed geometry of her frame. Still it's great on my bike and will probably fit any standard bike frame, but if you have a bike with an 'extra-small' frame, you might want to do some checking before ordering.

We have used this seat pretty extensively for several months and have had no issues with it. It is easy to get on and off of the bike rack and our daughter is very comfortable riding in it. The only critique I can provide is that the rack was more difficult to install than I had anticipated. Otherwise, it has been a successful purchase.

Assembly/Installation NIGHTMARE!, November 13, 2011
By Tee (Miami, FL USA)
|
|
Please, listen to the previous reviewers who talked about the difficulty in installing this seat. If you are not a bicycle mechanic, you really are better off finding a professional to do this for you. I say that after having spent the last 6 six hours or so working on this, and even though I have now successfully installed this seat and reassembled my bike, I don't trust that the bike wheel, gears, and brakes are all back the way they should be and I'm going to end up taking the whole shebang to a bike shop for them to check it anyway. Should have just paid them to do it up front and saved myself the aggravation. Having said that, the seat looks to be comfortable and safe and a good product. Quality of seat: 5 stars. Ease of installation: 1 star....I used the average of those two scores to come up with my three star rating.
Note: It's now a couple of hours since I posted that review. I just tried to remove the seat from the bracket so I can load the bike in my car to take it to the shop tomorrow. I came a hair's breath away from slicing off the tip of my thumb in the process, and consider myself lucky to have only a bruised and swollen thumb that will probably lose its nail. Be careful of the front safety latch and sliding the seat off. And for sure don't let your kids anywhere near it. Now bumping my rating down to two stars and seriously regretting ever thinking about putting a seat on my bike....
