Works great for Forerunner 305!, June 22, 2010
By Burke White
|
|
There are a few reviews on here that mention using this product with the Forerunner 305, but I wanted to make sure I posted a review to state specifically that yes - the Forerunner 305 fits on this perfectly (even though the description says Forerunner 405 and Forerunner 50).
I initially looked at the Forerunner 305 Quick-Release kit, but the horror stories of the device popping out of the wristband or bike mount quickly scared me away. With this mount, you can keep your 305 on its original wrist-strap, and feel more secure on your bike as the strap is wrapped around the mount. Garmin should abandon that Quick-Release kit and just use this as their mount for all their Forerunners.
One note - you do have to rotate the mount downward to see the 305 screen in an optimal position, but this hasn't affected the GPS reception at all.

It's worth it., July 19, 2009
By pretty happy

|
This is a handy accessory, I didn't bother doing the plastic tie-ons, when the watch is buckled around it, it stays on fine (However, I don't leave my bike in public, so I don't have the worry of things getting stolen from the bike).
It's much easier for me to see the Garmin on the handle bars as I'm not coordinated enough to bike with one or no hands. (Yes, I'm a beginner, I just started biking in May 2009).

Not for large diameter handlebars., October 27, 2009
By M. White (Raleigh, NC USA)
|
|
This bike mount is not made for larger diameter handlebar tubes such as on my Cannondale CAAD9-5. It would be nice for them to publish more information about what diameter tubes that this is made to fit around. It is made of seemingly good quality soft rubber so will fit around almost any size bar, but will become too large for the stiff wrist-strap of the Garmin 405 (but may not be a problem for the 305).

Garmin Forerunner 305 Bicycle Mount, December 17, 2010
By Traveler
|
|
This is a simple rubber block that provides a mounting bracket for any of the Garmin (or, I suppose, any other make) GPS watches on bicycle handlebars so the requirements are pretty low.
It does what it's supposed to. It fits handlebars from 25.4 to 31.8 mm in diameter and holds my Forerunner 305 firmly in place. I didn't use the included zip-ties to clamp it in place since I use the 305 on several different bicycles but it works fine without them.

Good little widget, May 17, 2010
By Visit my Amazon Profile page! (Bay Area, CA)
|
|
This little widget works well to connect a Garmin with a strap or even a hard monitor watch with a strap. The only problem I had with it was not with the bike mount but with the absurdly low quality junk they used when they made the Forefunner strap. The Forefunner strap broke the second time I used it with this mount as I pulled it gently to tighten it down. The solution was to get a new Forerunner strap from Garmin, complain that they are a piece of junk, and then never again tighten the Forerunner strap but instead loosely put it around this mount and then use a rubber band to hold the Forerunner on the mount.
Summary: This mount is good. Forerunner strap is just garbage and will break if you are not careful.

Forerunner 405, April 6, 2009
By J. Alex Kirkpatrick (Colorado)
|
|
I am using this with my 405 and it works pretty well. I only have two complaints. First it was a bit awkward to get it on so that the large end of the zip tie was inside the end, where it is cut out. I wanted to do this though so that the sharp end where the tie was cut off didn't cut into the watch band. Second, the little part that sticks out and says garmin. It doesn't seem to really serve any purpose (I am not sure that it would really help hold the watch on) except making it harder it get on and off. I have it on my aero bars.

Works well!, January 24, 2010
By NOV8TR (Santa Barbara, Ca.)

This handle bar mount works well with my Forerunner 305 (mounted to an early vintage Stump Jumper without any suspension). I have a bunch of other stuff on my bars (Garmin Etrex Vista HCx, and a Cannondale speedometer), so I appreciated the simple and space saving design. I think I saw another review that suggested that it would be nice to have the ability to "flip the screen" upside down on the forerunner series so that the antenna was pointing up while on the bar mount, and I concur. However, that being said, I have not been able to measure any appreciable error while mounted right next to the Etrex Vista (which has the antenna pointed in an optimal orientation). It is really nice to have the Forerunner mounted to the handle bars rather than my wrist while mountain biking! It leaves my hands and wrists free to wipe sweat, and deflect branches. It is possible to work the buttons (imposable when on your wrist while riding), and I'm counting on the fact that the Forerunner will be less likely to be damaged in a crash when mounted to the bike rather than my body (as yet untested). I would recommend this product to a friend.

Burke White was right!, February 18, 2011
By Hispanicgamer (So Cal)

My Wife and I each have a Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor and always wear them on our wrists when we go for a bike ride. A few times while riding, my GPS would shut off due to the extreme angle formed by my wrist when bike riding. I decided to see if there was something that we could mount onto our bikes to hold our 305s and came across Burke White's review and decided to give the bike mount a try. Sure enough, the 305 sits perfectly on the mount and doesn't lose reception. My Wife loves the fact that she can see what her speed and HR are at anytime without taking her hands off of the handlebars. I like it beacause it won't shut off by itself anymore. Thanks Burke!

simple but works, December 16, 2010

This fit my road bike very well without using the straps. That way I can move it to my other bike. The only issue is having to close the strap on my Garmin snuggly to keep it stable.
I like it - but my cheap side thinks I could use foam pipe insulation the same way.

Needs modification with 405cx and large diameter handlebars, April 16, 2010
By rmoy58
|
|
I had difficulty trying to mount the 405cx on my road bike with this. As mentioned in another review, because of the stiffness and shape of the 405cx, it could not fit around the mount because the mount itself became too large to wrap the watch around. I ended up cutting out the thick inner arch on the the non-Garmin side; despite doing this there was no problem using the included ties (to keep the mount on the bike while the watch is not on it). Now my watch fits securely and neither the mount nor the watch slip.

Don't buy this, buy the quick release mount, August 4, 2011
By northe99
|
|
The quick release mount is far more elegant and easy to use than this option. Save the funds you'd spend on this to buy the Garmin quick release mount. If you're buying the 310xt for just running, you've probably made a bad choice. This is a multi sport device. Garmin should probably include the quick release mount as standard. The mounting on a bike is far more aesthetically appealing than the garmin bike mount, and that's only one of the benefits.

Does not work with womens FR60, January 18, 2011
By FunCpl (Virginia)
|
|
I really hated to give this a a 3 star because I have been so impressed with every Garmin product we have ever purchased.
Construction is fine, directions are clear. However it just does not work with the Garmin FR60 womens. It states on Garmin's website this mount will work with the FR60...but I assume they are referring to the mens version. The band on the womens version is too short to wrap around the mount and buckle it.
This was mounted on a standard road bike handle bar. As an alternative, my husband bought a black strip of foam rubber used in door/window seals. One side is sticky, the other side is not. He cutout a small piece and stuck it on my handlebars. It worked perfectly and cost a a few dollars.

Doesn't work well with forerunner 405, December 8, 2010
By Mothra (Michigan, USA)
|
|
The oblong external surface shape of the bike mount doesn't play well with the "wrist" shape of the 405's plastic straps: I can barely get it attached to the mount securely because the strap is short. It might work better if I switched out the plastic strap to the velcro, but I haven't tried it yet.

Works As Advertised, August 15, 2010
By Shelly

Pretty straight forward - that's how I'd describe this product. It is a flexible piece of rubber that wraps around your bicycle handlebars. I use it on a road bike and it fits nicely. I put it on the cross member of the handlebars. You can fasten it with the enclosed ties, but I just close the wrist band on my Forerunner 305 around it to hold it in place. No issues, no complications, no complexity!

Works as advertised to hold your forerunner on your handlebars. Can be a little clunky to do the watch strap up is you have brake cables etc criss-crossing along your handlebars. Easier to use your forerunner than on your wrist, but not so handy if you need quick transition from bike to running or similar.

Handy piece of equipment, July 31, 2010
By Steven G. (USA)
|
|
The item is great for using with a bike, but there are three negatives on it.
1) The round opening is too large for my steeringwheel. Garmin should have included a conversion piece for smaller diameter handlebars.
2) Agree with other reviewer that the straps are not needed, plus I have two bikes I switch between, and I rather do not buy two of these.
3) The wristband goes around easily, but I have a quick release velcro wristband and to keep it snug (likely because of my smaller diameter steering wheel), I have to overlap a bit which makes it difficult to attach.
All that said, still get it. It is soo much easier to use on the bike then on your wrist, I just love it!!

Great for the 305, September 27, 2011
By JTown

Great little mount although you'd think they could come up with a better way to attach it then using zip ties. A slight annoyance but works all the same. Especially after I filed down the sharp edges of the zip ties after they were cut... The garmin advertisement in the front is a bit much and serves no purpose. In fact it can get in your way trying to quickly remove the watch from the bike in transition if you're using the standard rubber strap. I switched to the velcro one which is quite a bit easier and nicer.

Get the Wrist Strap Kit and use this Garmin Mount on several bikes., September 14, 2011
By khalstad

|
I'm very pleased with this bike mount. I thought I'd buy one and if it worked well, I'd buy another for my other bike. As it turns out, one works with both bikes. I have an Electra Deluxe beach cruiser and a Cervelo R3(with the large flat carbon handlebar). I ordered, through Amazon, the Velcro cloth Wrist Strap Kit at the same time as the bike mount. I didn't use the black plastic ties that came with the bike mount. I simply mount the rubber handlebar mount on the bar and then mount the Forerunner on the mount using the Velcro strap band to tighten it to the bar. It stays steadfast through 30 miles of bumpy streets. When I wish to ride my R3, I just loosen the band and mount it on the R3' bar. It doesn't completely encircle the bar, but it fits and once you cinch the Wrist Strap, it stays put.
Very good product at a reasonable price.
One Note, I use the large Velcro band that came with the Wrist Strap Kit. I'm not sure if the shorter band would fit around the mount when placing it on the Cervelo R3 large flat carbon bar.
Ride Safe.

Garmin made a solid product here, but including zip ties to attach it, really? Every one knows zip ties don't last forever and will often break. I do enjoy having this item though as it keeps my Garmin 305 off my wrist which is uncomfortable when riding my mountain bike for long periods of time.

It's a nuisance to wear the forerunner on your wrist and try to consult it while you ride. The handlebar mount puts the forerunner where it's easy to read. The only bad thing is the use of zip ties. I have more than one bike and I would like to be able to move this from bike to bike. I may come up with some way of doing it yet.

Garmin forerunner bike mount kit I bought for my giant., June 26, 2011
By Drew442

This mount kit makes it so much more convenient to track your pace while on the bike when you're trying to get a quality workout. At high speeds taking your hand off the bar or twisting your wrist and looking over to check data is a bad idea at times and may cause you to lose momentum that you have to work to regain. This little guy makes that a lot easier and safer.

It fits the 305 just pretty snug on my road bike. I think it could be about $5 less (which is why I gave it 4 stars) as it is just a piece of rubber. I don't use the zip ties, I just let the watch band wrap around it and it holds it snug. I would recommend.

Garmin 305 on the bike, May 31, 2011
By Iva
|
|
This is a good example of less is more. This is a simple product that serves its purpose well. All it does is provide a base so that you can attach your Garmin to your handle bars. This makes it easy to read while riding and is out of the way. I used to wear it on my wrist. Not good. It comes with two plastic cinch straps that make it tighter, but also semi-permanent, on your bike. If you don't use the straps, you can easily move the mount to another bike. They aren't necessary, as the wrist strap on the Garmin secures it well enough. However, the straps do help with the only minor gripe I have. Without the straps, the mount can and will slip a bit around the handle bars on rough roads. This is a minor annoyance that is easily fixed by just moving the mount with your hand back to it's original position. If you have a Garmin 205/305 and you ride, you should get this.

Beacause I have aero bars on my road bike, I need to put this mount out on the thick tape wrapped part of my main bars - fits and functions well with my Forerunner 405. The wristband on the 405 is long enough. I don't use the tie wraps and instead remove it with the watch.
The material used is thick, sturdy and flexible - I expect good service life.

Garmin forerunner bike mount, February 24, 2011
By Bob
|
|
The bike mount for the forerunner 305 seeemed like a good idea when I ordered it. I am not so sure it is a good idea. You are supposed to attach it using the strap on the forerunner but that risks failing the strap early. As an alternative you are offered some small tie-wraps to attach it to you bike handle bar. The tie-wraps are very difficult to thread through the mount - I have not been able to successfully do this yet. As a result, I have not used the bike mount yet and only wear it on my wrist while riding. This works well for end of ride viewing or viewing while stopped but not so much while riding. I don't know if I would get this again.

Ripoff (but functional) attachment. Advertising Scam. Otherwise Functional Product., May 8, 2011
By Validate Your Life (Earth (at times)
|
|
To be honest, haven't attached this to bike yet. But seems functional.
Pros: seems simple (it basically makes the bike handle operate just like a wrist for the 305 (the device I'd use with this mount). nice simplicity.
cons: I don't know, how the "Garmin" name is supposed to face out...I don't have any problem with Garmin (and greatly like their products) but it seems like 40% of this mount product's purpose is to advertise Garmin. Again, I LIKE garmin products, but don't want to buy something that primarily seems designed for advertising it.
the cheap, bindy straps? Come on, I pay $14 for a product should've gotten atleast some proper fastening device.
Other than that, the simple attach seems like it might work.
Maybe I don't know mind have "garmin" facing the front of my bike because I like navigation, but would prefer to hae the option of putting a garmin sticker there or something haha.

Warning cannot ship a grommet to PO Box or APO, February 23, 2011
By ClLy
|

Amazon: please give an honest response to why certain items cannot be shipped to certain addresses as questioning the manufacturer or distributor reviels they will send to our addresses but your system block it. As an example you claimed Gamin does not allow the shipment but after emailing them they replied "I would be happy to help you with this. Yes, Garmin does sell to military station overseas that have a APO/EPO address.."
This might go onto another bike to hold the watch but the quick release setup came with a bike mount. It you need to mount it to a bike but don't want to use a quick release kit then you could use this but the quick release use the same pins to hold the watch as the regular wrist band so it works either way. Just don't recomend wrecking or you may damage the watch. You could use this for a regular watch.

Used a borrowed mount from a friend in the 11 days it took eXpansys.INC to NOT SHIP the mount. Product works as described with the 305 Forerunner.

Trustable, cheaper, not so light..., November 21, 2011

Very affordable bike mount kit for training rides and long distance triathlons. If you are doing only short triathlons, it's useless for racing.
It works very well with the 310XT or any other wrist watch, but has no interchangeable features as others garmin bike mounts.
And if you are concerned with miligrams, this is not for you.

Simple and Effective, November 14, 2011

I got the Garmin Forerunner 305 to track my cycling workouts. This was a no-brainer addition to my purchase as I wanted to be able to easily SEE the data as I rode rather than have to remove my hand from the handlebars to look at it on my wrist. The mount is soft, flexible rubber and I did not feel the need to use the zip ties to keep it on. The Forerunner wristband will handle that during rides and not using the ties allows me to move it to other bikes such as my mountain bike.
Took my Forerunner 305 out for its maiden ride and everything worked as intended. It was so nice to be able to SEE the data and keep my hands on the handlebars and not have to fiddle with my phone.

I had a doubt between this one and the fast clip. Well, I chose this Mount kit and it's simple and reliable, fix will in the bar, even if your bar has some small curves. Approved.

Well worth it. Makes a great spot on the bike. Quick and easy and very durable. Easy to read while on the mount and not attached to my wrist like my buddy.

Functional and easy to use, January 6, 2012

The mount kit is easy to use and move between bikes, as there is no need for the tie downs. The mount can easily be secured by use the Garmin watch strap. This product is light weight, effective, and fairly priced.

Great little accessory, December 9, 2011

Bought this for my Garmin Forerunner 305 to attach on my road bike. It works great, very sturdy hold and easy to get my Forerunner on and take off. Seems a little bulky at first, but it's worth the $$.

I'm so happy I got this. Now I can keep both my hands on the handle bars when I check my speed while riding. Also, as to other people reviewing the installation mechanism (the wiry thingies) - they are completely unnecessary. I don't use them. Instead, the watch itself holds this mount kit in place.

I tired of having my 305 around my wrist while cycling, and a little research turned up this product. Ordered one, put it on my road bike, and a month or so later I will simply say that it does exactly what it is intended to do, at a very reasonable price. Never had an issue with it, and I plan on purchasing one for my mtb next.

Works juts fine, April 7, 2012

It is a must have mount kit. It is a lot easier see the info like speed, Heart Rate etc, when you have your garmin in front of you, than when you have it on your wrist. BUT if your handlebars are NARROW. Don't get it, because it wont fit.

Works but a little bulky, March 28, 2012

Bought this for my Garmin Forerunner 310xt. It works great, the watch doesn't move when I hit bumps. My only complaint is that the grip is kinda bulky. If your looking for a way to mount your watch or heart rate monitor to your bike handle bars this will do the job.

Very useful, March 19, 2012

I bought this to use with my Forerunner 305. It was easy to fasten onto the handlebars of my bike and I can now read the display of the Forerunner while I'm riding. It's much easier and safer having the Forerunner on the handlebars rather than on my wrist. Recommended.
