Customer Reviews:
3.0 out of 5 stars.  A little too bulky. Not the best design either., April 7, 2009
By The Sybarite (U.S.A.)
I think these mitts are worth the price, but they are not flawless. Their thumb opening is on the same plane as the rest of the fingers, which is not how we have them aligned in our hands --at least when we are using our hands to grab something. Because they are rather stiff, this makes them a little difficult to use.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good price, but..., August 7, 2008
By Deanokat (Michigan, USA)
I bought this BBQ mitt because it was reasonably priced and made by Weber. Being a Weber fanatic, I had high hopes. But after trying to use it for the first time last night, I'm pretty disappointed. The mitt is very thick and heavy, which is great for protecting your hand from the heat. But it's so thick and heavy that gripping things with it is tough. Holding onto a wide-handled spatula was doable, although not super easy. But holding onto and trying to manipulate BBQ tongs was pretty much impossible. After much frustration, I finally took the mitt off and used the tongs barehanded. I'll probably use this mitt on occasion, but it won't be anywhere near the number of times I had expected to use it. Kind of disappointed with this one, Weber.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Definitely Worth the Price, July 21, 2009
By El Officianado (Pensacola, Florida, USA)
For the price, this mitt is well worth it. I like the way it covers your forearms. Many times I have burned them when placing a roasting rack or skewer apparatus on a large platter to bring inside, and they slid just enough to touch my forearm. It does smart. This mitt eliminates this slight mishap. It also eliminates wincing when adjusting hot coals or adding charcoal to the fire; or when getting close to the fire to flip or move whatever you are cooking. It is a heavy duty mitt of decent bulk and quality. It fits my hands (I bought two) just fine and does not materially hinder my handling of barbecue utensils or cooking racks. I have no problem with its thumb as others have mentioned. I must admit however, that I would not attempt to wear them while picking up small to medium plates. Hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Powerful, heavy-duty mitt, January 7, 2009
By tiny dancer (NC)
Perfect insulation. And washes nicely. I washed it on the delicate cycle and air dried it, and stills looks brand new.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Grill thrill, March 10, 2009
By Amanda Richards (Georgetown, Guyana)
Grill
Grill
I love to grill
I love to grill outside
Until
It's time to turn the ribs
Oh gee
It burns the hair right off of me

Hot
Hot
It must be hot
It must be hot an awful lot
If not
It won't cook through and through
And meat
Will still be bleeding when we eat

Mitt
Mitt
I got this mitt
I got this mitt because
My pit
Is filled with coal and open flames
It flares
Not just the food, it's me that sears

Love
Love
A mitt to love
A mitt that fits just like
A glove
And spared my skin from burning off
When turning
To stop barbecue from burning

Pros:
1. Mitt fits comfortably all the way to your elbow (unless you've got really long arms)
2. Works fine at resisting heat and flames while you turn, baste and otherwise fiddle around with chunks of food on a grill
3. Aesthetically pleasing and has a ring for hanging when not in use.
4. Affordable
5. People volunteer for cooking duty if they can get a turn with the cool glove

Cons:
1. Turning food with a fork is fairly easy, but the thickness of the glove makes for clumsy work with tongs and brush
2. Gets dirty quickly when the sauce starts to fly
3. People tend to "forget" to leave it behind when they're through helping you cook.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Inexpensive and quality, November 8, 2008

Not much to say. Around $5 or so and Weber quality. Cheaper than other off brand mitts.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good... but not for the grill, July 12, 2010
By Kawakami
This item is good quality and covers a lot of arm. However, the mitt style and the thickness makes it hard to manipulate BBQ tools and move grill grates. Also, I've already burned a hole in the finger area. Mostly my fault, but still this is a BBQ mitt.

I think that it would be better used as a kitchen/ overn mitt.

I bout a pair of welding gloves to replace these, and the welding gloves work much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  no more lost hairs, August 8, 2008
By R. Anconetani (So Cal, USA)
Very nice to not burn the hairs off my hand removing the grill lid, or trying to arrange coals, or flipping burgers. Also very stylish.

Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Hate it!!!, June 7, 2010
By Mac
The glove doesn't allow you pick anything up as it is too stiff and it doesn't allow you to bring the thumb over across your palm. It'll probably keep your hand from getting cooked but what't the point? If you're using this you have no need to put your hand over the grill as you can't possibly pick anything up with any control or dexterity. I purchased this to replace some welding gloves that are 10 years old and have seen the wrong end of too many burning logs in the campfire. I'm going back to the welding store.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Too bulky, January 22, 2010
By bridgesite (Rescue, CA United States)
On the plus side the price is right, and it does a good job protecting you from burns, but good luck picking up anything with this beast. I'm a man with medium-large hands and it's very difficult to grab pot handles or anything with confidence wearing these. My wife hates them. I recommend looking elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Insultated but really nonfunctional, August 7, 2009
By Jason Pitt (Baltimore, MD)
Ordered a pair of these mitts to help out with outdoor charcoal grill. They do keep your hands insulated from the heat but the thumb on the same plane makes them almost unusable for basic functions besides picking plates up. I have recently purchased glove style and wouldn't want it any other way. If you feel like you will be doing a lot of outdoor cooking then consider the little increase in price for the glove style.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Goes well with the Weber grill, January 11, 2009
By Enigma (Kensington, MD USA)
Let's face it, a mitt is a mitt. I purchased this mitt because it adds to the grilling experience using my Weber grill. Sure, it has a longer design when compared to regular oven mitts, but regular mitts protect your hands just as well. The main reason to purchase this product is to add to the experience of Weber grilling.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Good against the heat but horrible for control, May 10, 2011
By KK (Brooklyn)
The mit is bulky and stiff which doesn't allow my any control when I'm working with the tongs over the grill. It's good against the heat so I'll keep it but I'll be purchasing a glove so that I can use my fingers.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome!, October 13, 2010
By Honz
I bought 2 of these and i love them! they go up to my fiance's elbows haha but they cover my forearms nicely, she loves how they protect her entire forearms tho. These gloves are not too bulky like the Weber Style gloves are, and they insulate your hands from virtually anything!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Weber 6401 Oven Mitt, July 21, 2010
By Truth betold
A great glove for keeping your hands and for arms protected all the way up. The flexibility could be a little better, but it isn't terrible either. It is very well insulated and you will have no fear of burning your self anymore. Highly recommended as a gift for those who are prone to getting burns, when cooking.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Not the best...., July 6, 2011
By Sir Spends- a- lot (Cubstown)
Reminds me of a new catcher's mitt before it gets broken in except this will never really get broken in. Very stiff and as mentioned by others it has a weird thumb placement.

I actually have a cheapo K-Mart version that I like better.

I would look for one in a store first and try it on before buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  saves my hands, July 26, 2011
By Terry
I got this barbecue mitt for cooking a few weeks ago. It makes grilling so much easier and more enjoyable. It is a good heavy duty one too. I have had other mitts in the past that claim to be heavy duty, but I've got the burns to prove that they were not. Really happy with this one so far. It was a good price and a good reliable product.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good for indoor oven use, too, July 24, 2011
By StratMan
I bought two of these a couple years ago for use in the kitchen as heavy-duty oven mitts. As others have mentioned, they're not very flexible, but I've had no trouble gripping the handles of a hot roasting pan with a heavy turkey. The main reason I got this type of mitt is to prevent burns to the forearm. Excellent durability, too, with no sign of wear yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good accessory for your grill, July 8, 2011
By Jason B. Adams (Seattle, WA United States)
Used this several times and is a good accessory for your grill. Better than an Oveglove as it covers more of your arm (no more singed arm hairs for me!!), but is a bit stiff out of the box and could be a bit longer. I'm 6'2" and it covers about just under half my forearm, as long as I don't stick my entire arm in my grill I'm good (but doesn't fully cover a burn on my arm I got while grilling so jury still out on this).

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Solid Mitt, June 1, 2011
By Andy (NY)
Can't get too in-depth with a barbecue mitt. This one is comfortable, insulates pretty well, and I thought it was easy enough to grip items with it. It's not top of the line, it's bulkier than some others and also starts to get warm at times, so the bulk doesn't mean it has supreme insulation. Still, it serves me well for my grilling needs.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  As good as any, better than most, May 10, 2011
By GBlair (New Jersey, USA)
What can I say? As a barbecue mitt, it works! The combination of flexibility and heat-resistance is un-matched by anything else I've tried to date. Admittedly, I'm not willing to spend $100 on one of the so-called "top-end" barbecue mitts, but I'm happy wiht my Weber 6401.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  I expected a "Barbecue Mitt" to be a lot more heat resistant., January 5, 2011
By Mister A
As others have indicated, this item is very bulky and hard to maneuver. Worse for me, however, was the lack of heat resistance - insufficent for nearly anything pulled off the BBQ. Perhaps that would be expected for something called an "Oven Mitt," but the "BBQ Mitt" description suggests a much more heavy duty item.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  I like Weber products, but..., December 12, 2010
By Dugald D. Chisholm (Atascadero, CA, US)
I love my Weber grill (charcoal, with a propane booster to light it), and I got this mitt for the difficult task of dumping the briquets out of the containers in which they sit while they're lighting. The mitt burned through, and my fingers got pretty toasty! I've switched to some super heavy-duty leather gloves. This mitt is fine for dealing with less intense heat.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  No more singed hair!, December 20, 2011

This mitt is very well constructed of heavy material. It's also long so it goes a good distance up your forearm. Best of all, it will protect my arm hair which gets singed a few times a season.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  weber barbecue mitt, November 28, 2011

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great, but big, September 6, 2011
By Daniel Boggs
Great mitt, but big. I don't mean inside either, but the length of it. For some this might go near the elbow. For others, with larger arms, it might be a bit tighter then you'd expect. But it does work well.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Mitts - A Little Bulky, But Protects Well, August 4, 2011
By Michelle Montgomery
Great BBQ mitts, even if they are a little bulky. The first time I used them I had a major flare up on the grill and luckily I had them on or I would have been burned majorly.

Weber is always a name you can trust and I would recommend to all my friends. It's a great quality product!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nearly perfect, July 30, 2011
By R. Salem (Phoenix, AZ)
This mitt is perfect for what it is intended to do... protect your hands & arms when reaching the grill or charcoal areas. It is tough, washes well, looks good & adds a little extra touch for showing off to your company while cooking. (Want some extra-cool? See this: The Weber Utility Shirt)

I throw these into the front-loader, then hang them to dry. They are ready for next use fairly quickly.

What this and other similar mitts are not intended to do is allow fine control. You would need separate fingers for that. If control is what you need, look for a GLOVE and not a MITT.

Glove: Fine control for manipulating tongs, turners, forks & gas controls. Lower levels of protection from heat. See Weber Style 6456 Grill Gloves

Mitt: Maximum protection for pulling cast iron griddles, cast iron pots off the grill, as well as other two-handed tasks. Need protection when turning the shrimp & scallions with the tongs? This is not what you need; long handled tools is what you need. For a little less protection in a lighter-weight mitt, see Weber Style 6457 Barbecue Mitt

Note: The Weber 6401 Barbecue Mitt does not allow you to comfortably use your cheap Ekco kitchen utensils on your charcoal grill. Buy long handled tools for outside.

As long as you understand what this mitt is meant to do, you will love it & might even buy extras for pulling the pie out of the oven. If you need to use 6-inch tongs or a 99¢ nylon turner on your grill, look elsewhere. Better yet, doesn't Burger King let you have it your way?
