Great Product for the Heat, October 12, 2008
By Jeff R. Stone (Georgia, USA)
|
|
I used these during a 24-hour adventure race in Georgia in the heat of August. I used these capsules with plain water every hour and went through over 22 hours of solid effort without experiencing any cramping, muscle soreness, nausea or any other problems associated with dehydration or electrolyte depletion.
I don't use them all the time, but I would not want to do a hot weather event or long training session without them.

Great for most, average for me, March 17, 2010
By C. Peck (California, USA)
|
|
Most everyone in my distance mountain bike riding group loves these pills. I have tried these with moderate results - I think I sweat way too much. It has a nice mixture of content that helps prevent cramping/bonking, but everyone is different.
I sweat a lot, with lots of salt too. I have found that these pills cant really keep up with me if I'm doing a 4+ hour race. I prefer Succeed "S-Caps", which have a MUCH higher sodium concentration, and do much of the same thing.
So with that in mind, stop and think about how much you sweat. Chances are these pills will be just fine. If you often look like you were hit with a water hose when you work hard, look at the S-Caps.

Excellent for endurance athletes, August 12, 2008
By cherie (brooklyn, ny United States)

I use these when training and racing ultramarathons, marathons, and endurance events. I find them immensely helpful--I rarely bonk, and try to remember to take these every hour or so. If you cramp, they'll help. Also, when it's quite hot or humid, even if I'm only doing an easy six miles, I'll still take one, as I feel like it helps balance me out.

Leg cramps?, May 28, 2009
By W. Calhoun
|
|
I have suffered severe leg cramps for the last six months while biking. I tried adjusting my diet and nothing seemed to work. The worst part seemed to be at the end of the ride while waiting for a light to change. Hammer's Endurolyte product has eliminated this problem. The real test is coming as we move into the summer, but I am optimistic that the cramping problem is a thing of the past.

Not snake oil, February 17, 2010
By J. Elliott (Southern California)
|
|
This product really works - and works better than the many electrolyte drinks I had been using. I am training for a Challenged Athlete 1/2 ironman even, so I ride about 100-150 miles a week on my recumbent Inspired Cycle Engineering QNT trike. Many of my prescription medications interfere with metabolic functions during exercise, and so I frequently get leg cramps during and after rides. I tried taking Tums (calciu) and Mylanta (magnesium) before rides, and stay hydrated with both water and various sports drinks (36 oz/50 miles) but nothing seemed to cure the cramps. Substituting different medications helped (protonix in place of nexium, etc) and using non-fat choclate milk for a recovery drink also helped, but nothing seemed to solve the problem completely, and I would either get leg cramps by the end of the ride, or they would wake me up in the middle of the night after a days riding.
The first half century hills ride I did using Endurolytes I took 1/hour in place of any electolyte solutions, and maintained my 36 oz water intake. Amazing, no cramps - just a faint 'pre-cramp' twitching towards the end of the ride. No problems that evening. 2 days later, in warmer (80+ degree) weather, I did another 1/2 century hills ride. I didn't do my normal slow and flat short recovery ride, because it was the nicest Feb day I had seen in a while, rain was expected to curtail my riding all next week, and I was curious about how well the Endurolyte would work. I took 1 tablet every 45 minutes, and not even a twitch. Muscles felt slightly tired at the beginning of the ride, and let me know they had been used by the end, but no cramps during or after the ride.
I took each of the Endurolytes with a part of a Quaker granola bar just to make sure there would not be any stomache issues, and there weren't. I'm sold, these will go with me on all future rides.

Best electrolyte replacement, December 3, 2009
By Will Murphy (Hollywood, FL United States)
|
|
In my opinion, endurolytes are better than the other electrolyte replacement products I have tried for these reasons:
1) They separate electrolyte replacement from energy (food). Let's say you are going to run two marathons. Same distance, of course, but at one the weather will be 55 degrees Fahrenheit and moderate humidity. At the other it is going to get up to 78 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity. The amount of calories you will need for the two events will likely be quite similar. However, the amount of electrolytes you will lose is going to be very different. If you use a sports drink, then your electrolytes will come with a certain amount of calories. You might get inadequate electrolytes and/or too many calories (yes, you most definitely can take in too many) at the hot event and too much electrolytes and/or too few calories at the cooler one. With endurolytes, you take in the amount you need, and you get your calories from another source.
2) They have ALL the electrolytes, not just sodium, like many competitive products.
I personally don't tend to need a lot of electrolytes, so I take lighter doses than most folks, but in hot weather I always carry these while training and adventure racing, and have always been pleased with the results. As with any sports nutrition product, you will need to try this out in training to see what amount works best for you in various conditions.

excellent electrolytes, September 30, 2008
By C. Lao (Hong Kong)

I used these during a 7 day endurance race and they worked great. I live in a humid climate and when my hands start swelling in the humidity during training, I can tell that my electrolytes are out of whack. I pop one of these and within a short time, my hands are back to normal. Works great.

incredible product!, November 23, 2009

I am a triathlete and I started taking these a couple weeks ago because I am a very salty sweater. I do not usually write reviews but I found these to be so helpful I thought I had to. They COMPLETELY eliminate muscle soreness and cramping, even after very long, hard workouts. I feel like I can workout much harder now with no ill effects. I had problems with my calves cramping during swimming and taking one pill before a swim workout has also eliminated that. I would definitely recommend this product.

A real game changer, July 30, 2009
By Tony the Grrreat (Battle Creek, MI USA)
|

My first duathlon I tried just going at it with some gatorade on my bike and I cramped up miserably by the end of the bike portion. Since then I've started taking endurolytes before the race and during each transition along with a hammer gel packet before the race and at the first transition and I drink HEED during the bike. It makes all the difference in the world. My first duathlon I ended up with micro-tears in my calf muscles and was off my feet for a couple days. Now I can get back on the road the same day for a nice cool down.

In doing a 12 hour mountain bike race in SoCal, you need to keep your salt and electrolytes high. Taking 2-3 tablets every hour kept the cramps away and kept the energy up. I'd definitely suggest these to anyone who experiences cramps or energy loss during a workout. They do what they say.

Great product!, April 5, 2010
By smorse (Easton, PA USA)

I spent a good chunk of time researching electrolytes for people and decided to try the Hammer capsules along with the endurolyte powder and gel. It's still a work in progress but I just did a 25 mile competitive ride over the weekend and this is the first time I didn't finish with a headache, feel totally exhausted for days afterwards and have muscle cramps that weren't related to the activity. I'm hoping that I can figure out the right combination for when it's really hot as I have no heat tolerance anymore; but I think that it's at least possible with the Hammer products - great stuff!

cramp relief, June 4, 2011
By Michael Guerra (Kerrville, Texas)
|
|
I weigh over 220 lbs and cycle in the heat of the day, in the wind and the hills of Central Texas. So far my longest ride is 30 miles, in 97 degree heat, with 15-25 mph winds. If I take six Endurolytes per hour, it eliminates cramps. Prior to taking Endurolytes I suffered horrible cramping during and after rides. Just climbing off the bike would induce horrific foot cramps that prevented me from even being able to load up the bike and drive home. The manufacturer states that each person will have to find their own dose, and that the hotter it is and the more you weigh the more you will need. I tried three and then four and then five an hour but that didn't work for me. Six gets it. Sometimes I have trouble swallowing capsules. So often I will just put a little water in my mouth and chew a capsule up while swishing and dissolving it, then swallow that, and chase it with a swig of water. Many people might find that disgusting because it is pretty salty and not too good tasting. I don't care, though, I would do almost anything to prevent the cramping! So this works for me. Read the Hammer website to learn more about the dosing. Some people who reviewed the powder version of this stated it won't dissolve well, and when I popped some capsules open to try to dissolve it, it didn't dissolve. So I am sticking with just chewing up the capsules, one every ten minutes, and happy to be cramp free. Without this stuff, I could not ride.

Works GREAT!!! Perfect for triathletes or powerlifters!!!, April 6, 2011
By SirLoin
|
|
This is THE BEST electrolyte product on the market.
I'm a certified personal trainer, and I've trained for triathlons as well as powerlifting events -- and I've cramped up many times from training. I haven't cramped since I started taking these. And when I don't take this and get a cramp, 2-3 of these get rid of my cramps pretty quickly.
Better than sports drinks like Gatorade since it doesn't contain sugars or artificial sweeteners or other garbage for your body.
Balanced levels of electrolytes, so easier than buying individual components of potassium, sodium, etc. and making your own batch.
It's not cheap, but it works, so it's worth it.

I used this product to prevent cramps in a warm day race and maybe I just needed more pills to prevent the cramps.
I did tighten up mid-race and went to potassium pills which worked better.
OK product, next time I will take more pills before and during and see what the results are.

Hammer Endurolyte capsules, April 19, 2010
By Aim (San Francisco, CA United States)

After suffering from dehydration during marathon running for years, I discovered Endurolytes. These capsules have several different electrolytes (as opposed to some electrolyte supplements than only have one or two electrolytes). Endurolytes have largely cured my dehydration problems! I'm now able to finish the entire 26.2 mile course without suffering from nagging cramps. If you are prone to dehydration while doing endurance events, give Endurolytes a try.

Great Product, December 26, 2010

I use these for longer distance triathlons. I don't like the taste or the after taste of most sports drinks, so these are wonderful for me. I've found that if taken regularly throughout an endurance event, they help me avoid feeling depleted, and keep me feeling energized even toward the end. They got me through my first half ironman, and I'll be using them for anything longer than a couple hours.
I also have a friend who's a great runner, but has a weak stomach during endurance events and has a hard time staying hydrated and keeping down food. I recommended these, and they've helped her a TON with her nutrition during long workouts.

Used these on a two week hiking/climbing trip in Israel and Turkey. Hiked a lot with difficult climbs in high heat and humidity, and these worked great to keep from getting dehydrated. I am not a Gatorade fan, because of calories and taste so these are perfect for me. Also have 2 kids in high school sports, volleyball and football, and they use them too. They are especially useful for football and double days in the August heat.

Helped with my cramps, August 7, 2010
By Wanna B. Runner
|
|
I ordered these capsules online and they arrived 4 days later. I was a little concerned about their quality because the package was sitting in a hot mailbox for several hours. I guess it didn't really matter because I tried them on a eleven mile run today and I did not have any cramps in my left calf muscle at all. I usually get cramps in the same leg at around mile 9 and this time I didn't. During previous runs, I was taking some water with Elete drops at a 4:1 ratio but this alone did not help prevent cramps. I guess it was the combination of the water with Elete and the Hammer Gel Hammer Endurolytes that helped. I wouldn't recommend this combination to everybody because it may be a little bit too much electrolyes, but it did work for me. I took 1 Endurolytes capsule 30 minutes after starting the run, then 1 capsule every hour.

Exceptional training supplement, March 16, 2007
By J. Pangelinan (Lawrence, KS)
|

I began using Endurolytes when training for my second marathon. These pills, which contain sodium, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B-6, and manganese work surprisingly well for elecrolyte replacement. I use them before, during, and after long endurance workouts, and they truly help me feel better througout and aid in recovery from muscle soreness. Many athletes hydrate well but fail to replenish electrolytes, which can be extremely dangerous. Endurolytes work really well and also seem to help reduce cramping and headaches during and after races.

amazing!, February 1, 2007
By goldilocks (baltimore, md)

i was training in baltimore winter weather (i.e., 30 degree temps) for a marathon in honolulu - which, if you think about it is probably the silliest thing to do...when the weather in honolulu is about 70-80 degrees and relatively humid. these pills DEFINITELY helped me retain water and kept me from dehydration during the marathon (i didn't use it during my training runs...again, another silly thing to do). the only thing i recommend to others is that they should definitely play around with the number of pills to take during endurance activities to find the optimal dosage for them. as a side note, my dad took a LOT of them during the marathon as well, and while it kept him hydrated, he swore he was secreting salt from his skin and could taste it in his mouth for days after the marathon.

Not for me, August 22, 2011
By Andrew Kent (Westborough, MA)

Made a stupid mistake and acted like a novice, trying these first on a long, two-day ride. I've done the ride 9 times before without them (essentially back-to-back centuries), and these made me feel worse as I went on Day 1 and early on Day 2. Stopped taking them early on Day 2, and felt better toward the end of the ride. Not sure why, but these are not a panacea. Be sure to try them when the stakes are low to make sure they'll work for you.

I don't feel much different when exercising (soccer) whether I take these pills or not. However, I do feel that my recovery is better and less painful when I do take an endurolyte during a soccer game. I will have to see the effects of taking more than one pill during a soccer game, since it lasts 90 minutes and the label indicates a higher dosage.

Work Great, December 30, 2011
By S. Buchner (AZ)
|
|
These work great. However, due to the price I can only give 4 stars. $20 for some "salt" seems way too high to me. I have looked at other Hammer Products and everything is very high priced. Looks like their target customers are people doing various sports like cycling. I have been using these on my 87 year old parents. They routinely get dehydrated. Our doctor (an avid cyclist) recommended this brand. I was able to find some similar electrolytes for <$5 per bottle at Iherb. I have been using the cheaper ones for about a month and they work just fine, in fact, maybe better. I won't be buying more of this brand due to the price. If you only need one bottle per month then these would probably be OK. However, when you need 3-4 bottles per month it is not economically feasible to use this brand.

Electrolyte replenishment - quick and to the point, December 23, 2011
By Dean! (Dallas, TX)
|
|
I personally do not believe in Gatorade or PowerAde due to their HIGH sugar content, when the main reason is for the electrolyte replenishment. Take out ALL sugar and wah-lah - you have the Hammer Endurolyte Capsules! (For FYI, a 32 ounce bottle of Gatorade has 56g of sugar! A 12 ounce can of Dr. Pepper has 44g of sugar!)
I bought this for muscle cramping and I can definitely tell a difference when I'm taking these and when I'm not.
In highly-strenuous activity, the loss of electrolytes and lactic acid build-up causes cramps; these endurolyte capsule help me get through those tough activities without cramping.
I believe in plain water and I recognize electrolyte-loss and these capsules are quick and to the point, addressing exactly what I need, nothing less, nothing more - 5 stars for me.

Hate Gels, But LOVE These!, December 2, 2011
By Quizabuck (Wyoming)
|
|
I am not an expert on any of this stuff. I have read articles and blogs online, but I don't truly understand most of it. What I do know is field testing all this crap. Gels are not for me at all (I learned that fast). They taste horrible and the texture does not do it for me at all, especially when your trying to power through your 4th+ packet. Powders are more my style since I can mix them with water, but when you do that I could never find a good balance of "getting what you need WHEN you need it" and over hydrating. Then I found these capsules in a local store, and that day changed my running life. With the help of these capsules I was able to run uphill where I would normally walk (due to fatigue), and extended the life of my runs by 5+ miles. Now I am not saying these are some miracle pill that's going to give you the same results, but these babies definitely gave me the extra boost I was looking for. I really like that I can just pop one and almost instantly feel better (without knowing it). I mean they don't make you feel better, they just help you maintain where your at if that makes sense... Personally I take one every 1/2 hour while running and switch to one every 15 mins once I pass the 20 mile mark (depending on the heat factor). Everyone is different, but I would recommend trying endurolytes!
