Decent little economy light, July 16, 2009
By Greg (Minneapolis, MN)

I purchased this as a cheap backup/safety light, and it exceeded my expectations. For $10 I doubt you'll find a better city headlight. The light is smaller than expected (approximately three inches long by less than an inch and a half wide). The light is also brighter than I expected. The beam is focused, but lens flares provide some side angle visibility.
The housing appears designed to keep out rain that hits the light from the front or top, but it does not have any rubber seals, so I would not trust this light in a heavy downpour.
The mounting bracket is less substantial than a similar bracket from Planet Bike, and I'm not sure I'd trust it to survive long-term in very hot or very cold weather. (Side note: although nearly identical to Planet Bike QuickCam brackets, this light will not attach securely to Planet Bike brackets.)

Nice Little Light...Just Needs Better Clip, January 13, 2009
By goinwonce (Arizona)

For the price and with 5 bright LEDs...this light would have scored perfect except for the cheap plastic clip that holds it. It is made of plastic and doesn't secure it as well as I would like it to. I have been out a couple of times and it has held, but I rode on smooth pavement. Don't know how it will do on rough terrain. It has the steady burn and blinking modes. Overall for the price, you get a very bright and compact light....too bad the clip wasn't made better!

very, very good for the price., August 27, 2010

This light is worth way more than the price. Lots of people complained about the mounting hardware. Upon receipt of the light, my first impulse was that I didn't know what people were complaining about, it was very smartly designed. However, almost immediately, I discovered why people had issues with it. The reason being that besides the smart design, it didn't work. In that the cam like latch wouldn't stay latched and came open. I fixed this with a simple electronic cable zip tie. Now it is perfect, I think.
For the price, it is a very good light. I recommend it!

A very nice light my only problem is that the handlebar attachment is rather flimsy.

Good product at a good price. Not the brightest, but good., September 22, 2010
By Steven Gorman (San Francisco, CA USA)

I haven't actually used this on my bike yet, but I have turned it on and checked its functions and brightness. It seems to work well, and be reasonably bright. Very compact too. I happen to have purchased a Schwinn 3 LED Torch Bicycle Light at Walmart as well, for another bike, and that light is quite a bit brighter. The price was similar. But in terms of reliability, I cannot comment on that because I have not actually installed either of these lights on my bikes yet. But, I can say that this M-Wave 5-LED bike light seems to be of good quality, and is definitely bright enough to light the road right in front of you a bit, and let you be seen by cars and pedestrians.

Nice light, terrible mounting, November 18, 2010
By Jeff Healy (St. Paul, MN United States)

I purchased two of these, for two different bikes. The light itself is nice but the mounting hardware/bracket and the bolt are not. Both of the units do not fit securely over standard handlebars and are constantly spinning upside down. We have removed both of the lights.

Decent light, bad mounting bracket, September 13, 2010
By Kgarden (VA)

Light is good. However, the mounting braket is a cheap plastic clip that I could not manage to tie it properly on the barhandle. so the light won't stay and it move when you push on the light to turn it on.

Cheap for a reason, August 1, 2011
By tincanbanjo (Portland, OR)

The light didn't fit perfectly with the mount, and the mount broke the first time I used it. I wish I had spent a few more dollars on a better quality product. On the "bright side" the light itself was pretty strong. No good for biking, but I guess I have a nice little flashlight now.

Do not purchase!, July 6, 2011
By jus1chillchic (US)

The light itself works fine, but the device used to attach it to your bike is terrible. I purchased two of these lights. The first one actually broke while my husband was trying to attach it to his bike. The second one had an important piece used to keep the light on the bike fall off and we were not able to find it, so we had to use tape to attach the lights to the bikes. My mom purchased a similar light from Walmart, but the one she purchased uses a clip which seemed like a much better solution for attaching these types of lights to the bicycle.

Bright light; dinky mount., December 16, 2011
By nnn

The light is very bright and has good battery life.
The mounding bracket is flimsy. It feels like you are going to break it during installation. Once installed, the mount is solid.
The mounding bracket has a cam-lever mechanism, much like a quick-release skewer. If you unscrew it too far, it will pop open and pieces will fall all over the ground.

Won't stay on, September 16, 2011
By Ryan

I purchased this headlight to replace a PlanetBike light that I lost. The M-Wave worked fine for a few days but then began turning off whenever I rode over a bump or if the top of the light housing was touched.
When it does work, it works well and has three light settings (steady, flashing, strobe). Please note that these types of lights do not illuminate the ground to help you see while you ride at night, they make you visible to other drivers and riders on the road.
It's a great deal for the price, I only wish my light would stay on.
I will probably purchase another PlanetBike light and use the M-Wave for emergency/back-up purposes.

Light works, clamp does not., August 21, 2011
By cjj44 (USA)

The light worked as described, unfortunately, the clamp was hard to attach, fell apart several times, and finally, after I finally got it on, fell off the bike the first time I used it. The manufacturers need to improve the design.

great light with a worthless strap, August 6, 2011
By Sparker

|
For the price, this little light rocks. I've been using it for months now, and it's going strong. All the functions work well and it's fairly bright at night. The strap is worthless though. I just cut it off and used a ziptie, no problem. I recommend this little guy. Fast shipping to. 2 thumbs up!

Happy with purchase so far, July 28, 2011
By Em C (WeHo CA USA)

Super bright light and easy to install onto my handle bars. I can see the criticism of the attachment in that it's not super strong and could see that repeated removal could easily break, but happy with it for the first week. Very bright light with 3 or 4 different settings (continuous light, at least 2 or 3 different blinking ones).

Bright light, great at night, July 25, 2011
By SK Duncan
|
|
This bike light is bright and visible from at least 1000 feet ahead. It is also strong enough to illuminate the pathway ahead of you if there are no existing street lights. A pretty good bargain for the price. My only complaint is the bracket to hold the light onto the handle bars is not strong enough. They need to work on that design. In the meantime I use electric tape to secure it. Improvise on a bad design.

Good light with some design flaws, December 8, 2011
By Jeremy (chicago)

When the clocks fall back and it's dark by 4:30 in the afternoon, you'd better have a few lights with you if you're still out riding your bike. At the minimum, you need a red one in the back and a white one up front.
"At the minimum" is a good way to sum up the M-wave 5 LED light. It's hard to beat the price point amazon has it at, and the five LED's are bright and perfect for a "be seen" front light. I was expecting a simple constant on/blinking light, and was surprised by the third function, that's kind of a blinking strobe. So that was another positive. All in all I'm very happy with the light, as you might expect with a 4-star review.
That's not to say there aren't a few nitpicks though. It's not the easiest light to clamp on to a bar, since you have to screw the hinge together and then lever the clamp shut. Not impossible, but if you have normal-sized hands it can be tricky. The clip holding the light on the clamp doesn't always feel steady either, so I'm not taking it on & off all the time for fear of it breaking. Finally, and this is the big one, the button to actually turn the light on is surprisingly difficult to get a finger on. I wouldn't recommend trying it while you're already in motion. Turn the thing on, then hit the road. Definitely not a deal-breaker, but a noticeable drawback to this light.
If you've already got enough gear in your cart to qualify for free shipping and you need a light, throwing this one in at $10 is a win. It might not be perfect but it will do the job and then some.
