Good Deal for Good Product (Maybe not for folding bikes), September 26, 2010
By Erik
|
|
Pros:
-Comfortable: It softens the seat so you can ride longer.
-Inexpensive: A bargain, and a fraction of what you'd likely pay for a new seat.
-Great quality: It is sturdy and well-built from the fabric to the anti-sliding surface inside the sleeve.
Cons:
-Shifting: If your seat is slim like mine and you stand a lot while biking it may shift slightly to one side over the course of a long bike-ride. However, I can't imagine a better seat cover so this won't affect my rating of the product. I have met beginners who have tried this seat-cover and prefer not using it for balance reasons (possibly due to shifting). It's just something to note with covers in general.
-Heavy: With great quality comes a certain weightiness compared to say a non-gel cushion. The gel is somewhat heavy in my opinion. It is worth it, don't get me wrong... but I have a folding bike and I fold and carry my bike before and after each ride. I try to minimize weight wherever I can. If you have a folding-bike and want to minimize weight, I'd give rate this product 4 stars.
-Not perfect: This seat-cover will soften your seat but at the end of a long bike-ride I sometimes can still feel a little bit of soreness. I also don't know that this seat-cover would help people with serious comfort issues (people who have had prostate surgery, etc.) Some bicyclists I know are far more sensitive to pain and have purchased and tried various seat-types before feeling comfortable riding. For riders like them, I don't imagine this cover would do much to reduce pain. For most people, though, I think it will be just right. You might as well try it before you spend money on expensive seats that might not fix the problem. By the way, everyone with pain-issues that I personally know who got a replacement seat eventually settled on some form of a gel-seat.
For me, this seat-cover gets the job done. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants an inexpensive solution to an irritating problem. I am giving it five stars because I can't imagine a product of this nature made any better.

Very nice, June 22, 2009

Great addition to my bike to help with the longer trips. Tie strings little to long, had to cut them shorter, other then that it fit great, stays in place, and is a great deal. Have used it on a ride that lasted more then 5 hrs on rough areas and was not hurting when it was over.

Not for wide seats, July 27, 2009

This cover only fits narrow bike seats. It will not fit older wide seats or wider comfort bike seats. I passed it on to my kid for his bike. He loves it.

Not for the Marcy Mag Cycle, January 21, 2011
By SYROrange
|
|
I bought this seat cover when I purchased the Marcy Upright Mag Cycle because a lot of the reviews recommended that you get a gel seat. This seat was listed under the "Customers also bought ..." section. So for $13.00 I thought it was pretty risk free. I should have researched the size of the seat vs. the size of the cover but I figured if Amazon matched the bike & cover as compatible - I was good. Wrong. This seat is about 1/2 the size of my bike's seat. I love the bike but it definitely needs more padding. It's not worth the trouble sending the $13.00 seat back so I'll give it to someone who can use it. I just ordered the "1-1/2" Thick - 9" to 11" Wide Bicycle Seat Cover / Gel Pad - Medium" by DerriAir & it looks like that will be the perfect fit. I'm just hoping to save someone from buying this seat with the particular bike I bought. I give it 3 stars because on one hand it doesn't fit my bike but it does seem like a quality product that would work well on the right bike.

Does Not Fit, December 12, 2010
By R. Martin
|
|
I purchased this seat cover because reviews said the "Confidence Fitness Space Saving X-Bike" had a hard seat that needed a cushion. About six different seat covers were displayed as additional items that could be ordered with the X-Bike. The one I picked, Mongoose Gel Bicycle Cover, is made for a narrow racing seat. I made it fit by pulling and pulling but it is not right for the wide seat of the X-Bike. Amazon.com gave the false impression that this is a suitable cushion for this X-Bike. It is not.

No more pain, August 11, 2010
By bopeep (Augusta, GA)

Well, I get pain DURING spinning but not after. There are comfier, more gel filled seats out there. This seat does its job: when I get off the spin bike, I don't ache for days. That's what I wanted, and that's what I got!

Tearing After Only About 6 Months Of Use, March 12, 2011
By B. M. (USA)

My last one was a Bell from Wal-Mart and it lasted like 6-7 years. This one looks like it'll be done in about a year. It hasn't been bad though, but I think it should have lasted longer.

Nice, but too small, February 9, 2011
By Karen
|

I ordered this seat cushion to fit my Stamina 9200 CPS Indoor Exercise bike. The seat didn't fit this bike seat. It was too small. Apparently it's made for a narrow bike seat. Otherwise, it seemed like a good cushion. I think I would have been happy with it if it had fit.

Mongoose Gel Bicycle Seat Cover, May 8, 2010
By A. Allin (CA)
|
|
I have had this seat cover for about 2 months. It is really comfortable. I do a lot of bike riding and find that this cover makes a big difference in the comfort of my ride. It slips on easily and doesn't shift.
My only complaint and it is very minor is that if my bike is left out overnight the seat cover is wet from the dew and it takes a little while to dry. The moisture doesn't sit on top of the cover and can be wiped off; it actually soaks into the cover and need to dry over time. I would buy this product again.

Mongoose Gel Bicycle Seat, November 5, 2010
By Mr. C
|
|
This product works great and is essential if you own a hard seat. When placed in use, I immediately noticed a difference in bike riding comfort; I use this product inconjunction with Canari Cycling Gel Liner Shorts, purchased from fogdog.com through Amazon. I own a Mongoose mountain bike and product was true to form and fit well. As directions state, be sure to wrap/tie excess draw strings underneath the seat. Do not get use to the logo on the seat cover, for after using the seat twice the logo was rubbed off by friction. Overall a good product, moderately priced, that is hard to find for Mongoose bikes. I would recommend to a friend or purchase again if needed.

Tiny cover but comfortable for seats it actually fits, August 4, 2011
By Nathan A Schoening (Garfield Heights, Ohio, US)
|
|
I originally bought this product for my own bike but it is not even close to the right size to fit my seat. So I ended up giving it to my fiancee. She loves it! Only reason I didn't give a 5 of 5 rating is because of how small it is. She always complained about her butt hurting after just a few minutes of riding, but she is now comfortable on bike rides! I recommend this product if you know how big of a seat cover you need.

Wrong seat cover., March 3, 2011
By Diane M. Guthridge (Apollo, Pennsylvania, US)

I was advised to orde a specific seat cover for the exercise bike that I bought from you.
The gel seat cover does not fit the bike.
I already took the cover out of it's packaging. Now what do I do?
The bike arrived 3 days after the seat cover. It was the Mongoose Gel Bicycle Seat Cover.

Easy fit...great bike seat cover, February 6, 2012
By Chandler
|
|
I had actually never bought a cover for my bike seats before, but had heard that a gel cover make any ride far more comfortable to I figured I'd give it a whirl...I love it!
First, it LOOKED to be the shape of my bike seat in the photo, but I wasn't sure how this fit on...it was actually exceptionally simple and easy to fit snugly. There is elastic on the bottom of the piece and once you get it on your seat as you like it, you then pull a string with a catch that holds it in place. However, you can also easily adjust it or remove it with this system should you need to.
This makes a world of difference for a long bike ride, an in-home gym stationary bike etc. I wouldn't want to sit on a hard leather chair to just sit and watch TV so it hardly seems fit that when I am out moving my legs and body, that I'd want one THEN under me especially!
The gel actually seems to keep me cooler and the top is easy to clean and the whole seat molds more easily to my shape for ultimate comfort.
Plus my bike now looks brand spankin' new with this "new" seat atop!

Ordered for my son, December 17, 2011

I ordered this product for my son because he was riding his bike back and forth to his classes and was complaining of pain from the seat. He said this product was just what he needed and was very satisfied with it. I had it shipped to his campus and the shipment was very prompt.
I would definitely purchase from this seller again!

Great for spinning, November 7, 2011
By Emily Feldman
|
|
Purchased this to save my butt-bones from the seats on the spin bikes at the gym, rather than purchasing expensive cycling capris with built-in padding. This is much cheaper, portable, easy to attach to the spin bikes at any time, fits them perfectly snugly, and really saves my butt!!! No more soreness for days! Definitely a great purchase for spin classes!

Moderate Cover - Likes to slip around though, October 20, 2011
By B. L.
|
|
The cover is pretty nice and does provide decent comfort - But it also likes to slide around on the seat as well.
I ended up having to cut a piece of that no-slip grip drawer/cabinet liner and put it on top of the seat and then place this on top to keep it from sliding around. Overall it was a good deal though - especially since I already had the no-slip grip liner and it fit the seat just right.

Doesn't Fit, October 3, 2011

This may be a good product, BUT it is designed for the long skinny seats, I needed them for what I would describe as a more "comfort fit" or traditional old bike seat. No way to streach them over and they need to be returned

Extra chusin for extra pushin, September 8, 2011
By nick

|
I'm on the bike an hour and a half a day to and from work. I have a fairly narrow racing style seat on my road bike and it can get to you after while. I wasn't looking for a lot of cushion; don't need it, don't want it. Just a wee bit more to smooth out the ride and cut down on my witch hazel consumption. This does the trick. Just enough cushion and it fits pretty good on a narrow seat. All these covers tend to move around a bit, but this ones not too bad, again because there's not an excessive amount of gel stacked on a narrow seat nose. Anyway, after riding with it on for a couple of weeks, I have really forgotten about it being there for the most part. I'm also not thinking about my bum either. So yeah, it helped. Wish it were water proof and maybe just a little more tacky on the bottom so it wouldn't slide around at all. Then it would get all 5 stars. If your looking for ultra comfort, (lots of padding) to fit on a wide seat, this is probably not for you.

Bike seat cover, August 24, 2011
By John Webster (Springfield, OH United States)
|
|
The cover is soft and gel feeling, but its too small for my seat. I can use it by pulling it over the nose of the seat but it doesn't secure. That is okay as most of my riding is on bike trails so my butt stays on the seat most of the time. It reduces my fatigue factor when I ride more than 10 miles.

Great to over up an ugly white seat on my new bike, August 9, 2011
By aloneatlast (Fremont, CA)

I took a risk buying this seat cover because there was no size or dimensions mentioned any place. It was exactly what I wanted but it did not fit my 24 inch cruiser bicycle seat. So I have returned it and found a size LARGE here on amazon and I think this should do the trick. Keeping fingers crossed. I hate the color of my bike seat and that's why I am buying this product. Looked very well made and had lots of gel in the top layer, the entire thing has some heft to it.

Excellent replacement!, August 1, 2011
By Susannah (NY, NY)
|
|
I bought this to replace my old gel cover. The old gel cover held on with elastic. The elastic finally gave out and the whole thing would shift when I got on and off the bike, as well as when I rode. This cover comes with a rope and lock to tighten it around your bicycle seat. I rode it at a moderate speed for 12 miles on a average bike path (some bumps and little hills) the day I got it. It held great. It stayed on nicely and fit my mongoose seat perfectly. I did notice some shifting by the front part of the seat. However, I am really short and even with my seat all the way down I can't easily get on. The cover shifted when I didn't have a step to help me up onto my bike.

Just what I was looking for, November 5, 2010
By Matt

I really enjoy going for bike rides as a form of exercise and a way to run errands and this seat cover really made the experience much more enjoyable for me. My old seat was as hard as a rock and now I don't dread getting on my bike for a ride. I would recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a cheap, quick fix to your riding troubles.

Great butt insurance., October 2, 2010

I bought a crappy bike with a rock hard seat. I installed this cover and my test ride to the store was extremely comfortable. Unfortunately, the ride home was terrible. That's because someone stole it while I was in the store. It was a great cover but I think I'm just going to get a new seat.

Not All That Soft, September 27, 2010
By Book Maven (Chicago)

This gel bike cover is nicely made and fits my bike seat, but it just doesn't provide the extra padding I need to allow for a comfortable bike ride. Many variables go into a bike seat being comfortable, so it may work for you.

Not as comfy as I thought it would be, July 6, 2010
By T-N (Pa)
|
|
It works. It's better than not having it, but that is basically it. If the gel area was a little wider, I think I would like it better. I rode 8 miles today and didn't have seat pain, but it wasn't that comfy while riding either. So I give it a four since the reason I bought it was to no longer have that extremely annoying post-ride pain and I didn't have that after my ride today.

Disappointed, January 13, 2011
By Anthony Strauss (Winchendon, MA United States)
|
|
I was disappointed when I received this item. It was advertised as having MORE gel then other seats and i wanted something with MORE gel to provide more protection on the nose of the seat that protrudes. Sadly I think this was misrepresented and in fact the amount of gel seems to be less then the seats I buy at Walmart. At a 12 dollar price it isn't really worth sending back and I suppose if it was a lot more expensive I wouldn't have bought it without being able to feel it first but it is still a shame that advertising can't be trusted.

This MOngoose Gel Seat cover looks like a nice unit. However it will not fit the exercycle that we purchased at the same time. This seat cover was a complete waste of time and money. It is too bad that Amazon recomended this seat cover for a bike that it will not fit on. We are now stuck with an unwanted item.
