About Pearl Izumi More than 50 years ago in Tokyo, a father produced Japan's first bicycle racing apparel for his son, a promising racer. He named his soon-to-be-established company Pearl Izumi, derived from the gem "pearl" and an area of Japan known for its clear water ("Izumi"). Literally translated, the name means "fountain of pearls." Distributed in the U.S. since 1981, Pearl Izumi USA sponsored the U.S. national team in 1984 and several major trade teams during the mid-'80s, helping the company earn an almost cult-like following among cyclists. The Pearl Izumi USA line is dedicated to meeting the needs of the serious sport enthusiast, including not just cyclists but cross-country skiers, triathletes, duathletes, runners, and more.

Size Problems, December 30, 2009
By boldknight (Arizona)

Just purchased this for my wife as Christmas present. She wears a size Medium. It came, it did NOT fit. Ordered a Large, it came, and still did NOT fit!
Be very careful in ordering these by size as the Chinese can not seem to get American sizes correct. The sizes are NOT what they say they are and this retailer makes you pay shipping costs to return an item.
It may be better to actually go to a bike shop and pay a little more and get the right fit.

Great Coat for the elements, August 28, 2011
By LAB1216
|
|
I have worn this coat in the rain and cooler temperatures (40 degree weather). It has kept me warm and dry. I love the design and the fact it is reflective in the back as well. Easy to store in a back pack or a pannier for the "just in case" weather. I am not sure if I would spend $80 on this again, but I really like the coat! We will see how it is in colder weather. It is SNUG but that is the way should fit. Just be prepared that it is a little snug but I would not order any other size than my own.

Peal IZUMi Women's Elite Barrier Jacket, October 22, 2011
By Katie Rose Campbell-Kelley (ROYERSFORD, PA, US)

Runs small....I am usually an extra small and I ordered M as I wear it over a few layers. I am a referee and I wore on a very rainy day and stayed pretty dry. Would have liked side pockets for my stuff!
Overall nice jacket and fit. like the longer back!

Great Jacket!, January 30, 2012
By Laurie A (Texas)

|
This is a great jacket and I highly recommend it. It is deceptively warm. I am still figuring out just what to wear under it at what temperature to be warm enough and not hot. I have used it on rides in the 40's, 50's and low 60's and have been very pleased with its warmth capabilities. It really blocks the wind and keeps you warm.
It may run just a tad big compared to other PI things I worn, but not enough to order a smaller size. Love the big pocket on the back too.

Bright, light, sleek jacket, December 8, 2011
By James N. Stephens (Ashland, OR)

Bought this jacket for my daughter and her twilight runs. True to size with a trim fit, this jacket was said by another reviewer to be for cycling and not so much running due to tight fit in chest. This might well be so if sized for a snug fit. I bought for a bit of roominess and the jacket works well for my daughter on her jogs. The color shown in the maker image for the screaming yellow is not even close to the actual color which is much brighter. Think brand new tennis ball and you'll have the color about right. Nice jacket.
