4.0 out of 5 stars.  Best First Trainer... hands down - Road Bike = noise is almost non-existent, November 29, 2009
By Spartan
Well, I provided a pictures above of my setup with my 06 Specialized Allez. Stable as a rock, the magnet gets abit hot after a an hour of riding, and the noise is almost non-existent with a road bike (tv or radio provided). I wouldn't recommend with a mountain bike for the noise unless you throw some slicks on for the winter.

Resistance is perfect for BEGINNERS or just simple winter training to stay in shape. I bought this to NOT buy a gym membership and have been satisfied ever since.

Setup was a breeze by taking it out of the box, extending it, and fitting it to my bike. In all, about 10-15 minutes after fitting and I was biking.

I gave it 4/5 because the skewer's are tricky. They have to be adjusted everytime, on both sides to level the tire. Other trainers might have a fixed skewer on one side so you only have to adjust one. Both have to be used, which isn't much of an inconvenience but its one less thing I would like to not worry about.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Economical bike trainer, September 30, 2010
By Amy Burke (Denver, CO)
This bike trainer fulfills all my expectations for a bike trainer. And it's reasonably priced! Tip: use slick road tires to eliminate noise and don't forget a block for your front tire.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  great buy, November 15, 2010
By BX RoB
bought this along with a bench to keep me fit during the winter months, and i gotta say its a "great buy". during the summer i cycled an average of 30 miles a day to and from work through nyc which was a great workout an saved me allot on train fare lol. but as it got colder Ive been forced to hang up my bike.

this is my first trainer and i didn't really know what to expect. straight out the box came as one piece so no set up. came with it's own axle you so can save your good one quick axle swap and drop into the trainer. centered onto the roller with 2 25lbs weights to level it out and that's it.

only thing after about an hour of nonstop peddling the resistance unit heats up but other than that it works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great!, December 6, 2010
By Christian Soldier (Iowa USA)
This is my first bike trainer. I thought I would try this in my apartment, even after reading several reviews online from people saying bike trainers are not for apartments, and now I agree also. I was able to set this up in the basement of the building so it worked out okay for me. I tried it in my apartment, but it was vibrating the floor and quite loud so I didn't want to be rude to my neighbors downstairs. I even tried getting a mat to go under the trainer, but it didn't help the noise very much. The noise is from the tire tread, the trainer itself doesn't make noise that I'm aware of.

Also, it might be helpful for you to know, I was hoping to be able to set this up with my old Huffy, but was not able because the trainer requires a quick-release skewer for functionality, and my old Huffy doesn't have this. So I used my newer mountain bike instead, but then I had to buy a flat tire because the mountain tire was very noisy with the tread. I used free super-saver shipping and it came very quickly - I was impressed. I haven't gotten a lot of time on this yet, but I am happy with it so far. Seems sturdy.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great trainer--and advice on fixing a loud noise., March 29, 2012
By TCB in a Flash
Pros: Great trainer. Good price
Cons: Developed a loud noise, but I was able to fix it.

I got this trainer in Dec 2011 to supplement my usually training. It was easy to set up, swap out the rear skewer (provided), and get going. I purchased the front tire block, too, and haven't tried it without it. The magnetic resistance provides three settings, plus changing the gears makes even more resistance options. Unless I'm specifically warming up or cooling down, I don't use the lower settings. At the highest gear and the most resistant mag setting, I get a good workout. It's not going to simulate hills, but you can quickly work up a sweat. We live in an apartment building, so I was worried about the noise, but it's quieter than any of our appliances, so it hasn't been a concern. I would estimate the noise to be somewhere between a clothes dryer and the spin cycle on a washer right before it stops. After about 10 uses or so, it did start to make a really loud noise, like a whine. Since the resistance is magnetic, I had no idea what this could be from. There wasn't any "trouble shooting" information on the Blackburn website or in the 2 page manual that comes with the book. I found one post on-line with a similar problem, and he described tightening a set screw. I took the trainer apart (4 screws) and noticed the internal "wheel" was wobbly There was no set skew, just a nut that went through the axel. I tightened this with a 10mm socket wrench and the wobbling ceased. When I put it back together, there was no longer the extremely loud noise. It was very easy to fix, and I imagine that this may loosen again.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It's a nice Cardio workout, November 20, 2011
By Vefer
It's black and white, not blue if you a picky about the color. There is nothing to do but remove it from the box and unfold it. Nothing to assemble. It comes with an extra quick release so you wont scratch your good one. The unit is silent, if you spin it by hand,(I've tried other brands in stores and they are noisy just spinning them by hand without a tire touching it) any noise you make is from your rear tire. I use a Serfas City Drifter (inverted slick) on my mtn bike and I only need to turn up the TV 4 notches. If you are looking for something to get you in shape for the Tour De France, this is not for you. This will give an average person or new/returning rider a nice cardio exercise. On the 3 level 15mph is 150 watts, 20mph is 200 watts, 25mph is 250 watts, all the way up to 40mph is 500 watts. Unless you are a full-on racer 15-20 mph for an hour WILL give you a good work out and keep your legs in shape during the winter. You will need a small fan as you will be sweating. If you are used to steep mountain climbs, this is not for you, it wont have enough resistance and you will need to look at the more expensive higher wattage or fluid trainers. It is very stable, it is well built and in this price range it is just what I was looking for. It is a well made entry level trainer.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Solid Trainer, But Be Aware of the Noise, April 14, 2012
By Jeffrey S. Cole
I purchased this trainer for my road bike late last year and have been using it regularly in order to get ready for the spring riding season. It's solidly-constructed, easy to assemble, easy to mount a bike on, and easy to remove a bike from. The unit's noise is an issue. (The bike itself is ultra-quiet.) I live in a house and have the trainer in the attic. According to my wife, she can hear the whirring of the tumbler mechanism on the floor below. I purchased a mat to help avoid vibrations on the wood floor, but it didn't help much. So, the unit's noise is the only downside and would be a problem particularly for apartment-dwellers.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great entry level trainer, January 31, 2012
By techview
It does what is supposed to do. I did have to purchased a slick tire for my mountain bike as the regular tire I had installed was too loud. Once I installed the new slick tire all the noise is gone.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Bike trainer, December 5, 2011
By DriverJeff
Bought this for winter riding for the wife. It works. Just do not try to use even a slightly knobby tire or the noise will be annoying. I bought a smooth tire just for this thing, and it works great.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Blackburn Trakstand Mag 3, October 22, 2011
By VinnieBB
This was easy to attach to my bike's rear axle. The instructions said to replace my bicycle's rear axle with the quick release skewer provided with the stand but that wasn't necessary. The adjustment cones securely held the original bike axle (this is an old bicycle). It was necessary, however, to replace the rear tire with a slick because of the noise level.
