A disappointment, February 15, 2013

We purchased a new 2340EA several years ago for use in a veterinary practice. Our records shows 132 cycles; of these, about 100 were actual complete sterilization cycles. The rest were either cleaning cycles or misfires. We had service performed several months ago due to cycles failing. The technician found nothing wrong and the autoclave performed without flaws for him. Last week, the unit failed entirely. The same company sent another technician. The finding: The circuit board had completely failed and the power switch was also bad. The technician advised that the Tuttenauers are prone to circuit board failure. In the case of ours, we found that the spade clips that connect the wiring to the power switch were very loose. The resulting poor connection caused poor voltage to be provided to the circuit board, which is the most likely cause of the failure. The total cost of repair will be just under $1,000. For a machine that cost around $4,000, our expectations were that it would last for many more cycles than it did and that there would be no sloppiness in the assembly of the parts. We can not recommend the 2340EA as a dependable machine.
