Much of orthodontic treatment is based on so-called clinical judgment. Only during the last decade or so has there been an emphasis on outcome-based orthodontic research, including prospective clinical trials. This volume includes reports of from currently-funded research projects and additionally examines the designs, methodologies, and analyses of randomized clinical trials and other types of investigations designed to assess orthodontic treatment outcomes. Studies include comparisons of fixed and functional appliances, extraction and non-extraction treatment, orthognathic surgical and non-surgical treatments and expansion therapy.
