The function of the muscles of mastication and of the other orofacial muscles long has been recognized as a major factor influencing the growth and form of the craniofacial skeleton. This volume presents a number of papers that review much of the knowledge concerning muscle as a tissue, adaptations that take place in muscle during and after alteration in function, the nature of the bone/muscle interface and the effect of muscle function and adaptation on the growth and form of the craniofacial skeleton.
