This work aims to provide an understanding of the nature of chronic marginal periodontal disease followed by a rational approach to the treatment of the condition. The practical emphasis of this text is exemplified by the format of the introductory chapters comprising Part 1, and the separation of treatment philosophy, principles and methods, which form Part 2, from the corroborative research findings in Part 3. This approach is designed to facilitate an unimpeded examination and understanding of the subject, whilst maintaining a close link with the readily accessible documentary support provided in the review chapters. Each of the parts can similarly also be studied quite independently as individual entities.
