Great way to buy these in bulk and with free shipping

I was pleased to see that Amazon sells these 1.4 qt sizes in a pack of 12. At $2.66 apiece, that's way better than paying over $6 apiece at a pharmacy. I gave it four stars only because the description on the container says it can hold 70-100 insulin needles. Well, we've filled up over a dozen of these red containers, and we find we can only fit 50 insulin needles in one 1.4 qt. red container. Maybe it's the size of the needles, so your mileage may vary. Other than that, we're very pleased with this purchase. And here's an important note: Be sure to NOT close the cap onto the top of the red container until you are absolutely sure you won't be putting anymore needles inside. Once that cap is put on, it STAYS on permanently.

Cheaper by far than buying one at a time...

First off these are hard to find, and they are more expensive when we do find them locally. We have two family members who do home allergy shots, and at 3 shots a week for one, and 2 shots a week for another, it can fill up a sharps container quickly. I just searched Amazon to see if they carried the containers, and much to my surprise they do, and could buy them in bulk...with free shipping and no tax, it is a bargain!

basic sharps container for diabetes trash

I've been using these small BD sharps containers for years to dispose of syringes, pen needles and now infusion set & CGMS sensor needles. These containers are small but they take a long time for me to fill, especially now that I use a pump and not injections. They're made from thick, tough plastic and are clearly marked so there's no mistaking what's inside. The lids snap on securely and will not come off, making for very safe disposal. In NYC you are allowed to put sealed, clearly marked sharps containers in with your regular trash and I never worry that these containers will break open during sanitation pickup & handling.
