There seems to be some question as to what you will actually receive when you place an order from this product page. The day I placed my order it was through Preferred Mart and FBA (fulfilled by Amazon). I received two refill containers of Mentadent toothpaste plus one base unit. You cannot use the refills unless you have a base unit. Don't accidently throw your base unit away as I did. They can be used over and over.
This is absolutely the only toothpaste I use because it works wonderfully for me and I find the taste refreshing. My dental checkups began to be very good when I switched to Mentadent many years ago. The whitening aspect of the formula doesn't make much of a difference for me because my teeth are not naturally "white" anyway and there is only a certain amount of lightening that can happen with just a toothpaste. For whatever reason, this product is becoming harder and harder to find in local grocery and drug stores. I was able to find a box with two refills but no base unit at my local Kroger store. The price here on Amazon was lower even though I got a base and refills.
My lessons learned are to pay attention and not throw away the base unit and to shop Amazon because chances are the price will be lower.

Have been using this product for several years now. Feels really clean after brushing. use an electric toothbrush with it except when I am traveling.

I have used this product for over 18 years, so it must be good. Don't know why it isn't sold in local stores anymore, but I still recommend it.
