Product Description:

Sixth-grader Rufus Mayflower doesn't set out to become a millionaire. He just wants to save on toothpaste. Betting he can make a gallon of his own for the same price as one tube from the store, Rufus develops a step-by-step production plan with help from his good friend Kate MacKinstrey. By the time he reaches the eighth grade, Rufus makes more than a gallon -- he makes a million! This fun, breezy story set in 1960s Cleveland, Ohio contains many real-life mathematical problems which the characters must solve to succeed in their budding business. Includes black-and-white illustrations by Jan Palmer.

Read this book as a child and wanted to share it with my Grandchildren. A good story about how success comes from hard work and creativity.

Set in the 60's opens up discussion of equality, yet my main focus was the economics lessons which blend with our 5th grade Enterprise Village curriculum.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  What a nice story and example of diversity in action, September 08, 2015
By VJohnson
I bought this book to add to the gift bag we distributed to the children attending the Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day event at my job. I had a copy left over, so I read it myself. What a nice story and example of diversity in action. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
